The quest is a series of gossip windows that trigger NPC emote text.

The quest as of build 10.0.0.45232 tends to stall out frequently.

To progress the quest - use the exit vehicle option, move away from the NPC until the extra action button vanishes - the return to the NPC and use the extra action button again and continue until it next stalls. Rinse repeat until the NPC runs out of things to do and the gold quest hand in marker appears over his head.

If you leave early with the 'I'm busy' option, you can turn the quest in. However, doing this will lock that character out from recieving the follow up quest Memories to retrieve his time capsule - which awards the Spiked Crest customisation for the Renewed Proto-Drake.

I had to ask 'tell me more about your friend' 4 times before I got the quest completed. That is the last interaction to get it to complete.

After being sentimental (guessing cos I'm a Gnome) he follows by saying "Although... I heard Gnomeregan was lost for a while and the damage will last for many years? I imagine you can relate to what I'm talking about"

Trying to complete this today I was unable to get a pop-up gossip window after the initial one. I used the vehicle exit button, backed away and tried again but that didn't work either. I had to log out in between every story, while still seated and having the buff "sit awhile" for it to give me a next option when I came back in. If I relogged while I did not have the buff, it just gave me the same "ask" again. No addons used.

Now Imagine that you have forgotten hot to get to your childhood home. You can never visit again, can never walk the paths of your childhood.

Ten thousand years.... I can barely believe it's been that long since we left.
You can't imagine how awful that time was, the fear that surrounded us. The Sundering, the Betrayal of the black dragonflight, The Dragon Wars.

The Dragon Wars... you may call it something different, but i was there, and that's what I call it. All the dragonflights versus the black dragonflight.
You would think it would be an easy fight? Four versus one after all, even with the Demon Soul.
The blue flight was nearly destroyed in Neltharion's initial strike, so three to one. Still great odds. Until you realize what it was like.

What do you mean?
You only know Neltharion as Deathwing, and his brood as mad, evil beings. We knew them before they fell.
This wasn't some unknown menace, this wasn't some great evil looming like the Legion was. These were our friends, our loved ones.

That sounds awful!
It was awful, not knowing what's going on. Thinking there was something you could do to snap them out of it.
They were my friends... and they were killing my brothers and sisters.

You had friends in the black dragonflight?
I had many friends in that dragonflight, some as close as clutch mates. Heh, growing up we used to play pranks on the elders.
I remember one time we coated Alexstrasza's tail in honey while she slept and ... ah.... what does it matter.
My best friend was of the black dragonflight, we intermingled a lot, back in those days... Not like now, where most flights keep to themselves.

Tell me more about your friend.
Isn't it funny? I can't remember her name. I can remember her face, I can remember how the light bounced off her beautiful scales, but I can't remember her name.
I can remember the horror when I came home to find her standing over the bodies of my family, practically her family.
I can remember the gut wrenching despair as I plunged my claw into her throat, and i remember the hate in her eyes as the light went out in them... But I can't remember her name.
I've always wondered, if I had been a better friend, could I have prevented it? did she not feel like she could come to me as she felt the corruption starting?
Ebyssian was cleansed, there must have been something I could have done? Butr she didn't come to me, must have felt she couldn't talk to me about it.
If I was a better friend... if I had told her... Oh Titans, if I had told her how I felt... Could it have gone differently?... I loved her... And I can't remember her name?

"Tell me more about your friend" is the final query to complete the quest.

Waste of time. After listening to him reminisce for what seemed like an hour, but was probably only 15 minutes, he wouldn't offer me any other choices than "busy" and then nothing. Couldn't complete the quest.

I didn't realise you had to talk to him whilst sitting lol - I sat there for ages and thought that was the 'stall'. After I spoke to him the quest worked well lol.

Click the dwarf several times and ask him a story.
It will take 7-8 mins to listen for the full story

You can speed up things by starting the dialogue and pressing leave the vehicle button, moving away from the npc when extra action bar disappears and starting again.

I love the somber heartbreak of this quest. It might honestly be the best quest in the entire game, though I wish it had acting. Veritistrasz gets so much development in just like five minutes.

This guy talks forever lol

Claims to be 10,000+ years old. But whines about the past, and doubts himself like a 20+ year old, teen mind.

"I had to kill my friend in war!"

"You don't know what it's like!"

You'd think, a being of 10,000 years old, is tempered by time, and has reached near-eternity stasis.

I would honestly have been happy if this quest simply had you look at the nice view for a while, but the dialog was fantastic. It was solid world-building and really made me empathize with the dragons more. He was right, I truly never thought about how horrible Deathwing's betrayal was and how much they sacrificed to save us. He was just a raid boss for me. I have some idea now.

The first time you talk to him he gives you 2 options

to talk to him and listen hence, stay awhile

or, you're busy and just complete the quest <You are busy, get up and leave>

I did the entire story with my 1st toon and I got a follow-up quest, Memories

I skipped with my 2nd and did not get the follow-up quest.

I figured he's thinking, if you don't have time for me, you don't deserve my memories. Fair enough ;)

On my 3rd toon, I'm opting to sit through. I'm sentimental like that.

As told to a Human Female Character.

The quest starts off with you having to click an extra button. This puts you in a vehicle which is essentially your character sitting down.
YOU CANNOT ABANDON THE QUEST IN ORDER TO RESTART THE SCRIPT.
I ALSO FLEW OUT OF THE ZONE AND BACK IN WITH THE QUEST ABANDON.

I missed a couple of clicks; I will fill them out later.

The Dwarf stares off into the distance with a frown on his face.

You are given the options.

<Sit and look at the view>
<You are busy. Get up and Leave>

If you follow the chat text and not the quest and just sit there, he will just
say Hmmm or Hrmph and then it says

"Veritistrasz mutters something under his breath"

Finally, if you click on the <Sit and look at the view>
He says "This View, it may not look beautiful to you. To me, it reminds me of how long we have been gone. I barely recognize this landscape"
I grew up here, when it was called the Broodlands. I used to tend the Lifeshrine, so many years ago. Then we left to help safeguard the mortals..."

For humans, it is similar to the speech to worgens.
Veritistrasz stays with the standard speech through, "Now Imagine that you have forgotten hot to get to your childhood home. You can never visit again, can never walk the paths of your childhood."
Then, humans and worgen get the following, "Perhaps you think me overly sentimental. You try living for ten thousand years, never being able to visit your home, finally visit it only to find it completely different, and then come back to me."
Next statement is only for humans, "Although...There is enough war in this existence that maybe you do know something about that after all."
Then Veritistrasz goes back to the standard speech, "Ten thousand years.... I can barely believe it's been that long since we left."

It was interesting to see how he noted that my character was Worgen, so he knew that Barque had also lost his home and understood his feelings.

It took me a moment to notice the question mark above the 'dwarf's' head and to catch on to clicking on to him in order to bring up the ask the next question option . . . a sad tale indeed.

Extra Action Button
I use Bartender and have my Extra Action Button located in a different area that I always forget to notice when needed to use (/eyeroll).
It will appear when you take the quest, click on it!

Kind of a silly dialogue. They seem to not get the difference of perspective living thousands of years would give you.

Of course things change... Even a normal person goes back to a hometown and can't recognize it.

some parts of the story cause the writers to get a lot of criticism. quests like this are a good reminder that despite some truly awful writing there really are some very talented writers on the team as well

So I was curious what text would happen if you just stayed next to him without talking. From what I can tell these are all of the dialogue and emote texts:

Veritistrasz mutters something under his breath.
Veritistrasz lets out a long sigh.
Veritistrasz glances at you.
Veritistrasz says: Hrmph.
Veritistrasz says: Hmmm.

It just cycles through these at random, but heavily favoring his long sigh.

Really enjoyed this moment with Veritistrasz on my main character, and this character now has more development than many others, even from expansions past. It's unfortunate we didn't get a voice actor to accompany the text!

Really bad quest design. I get that everyone likes the dialog, but the instruction is "sit and look at the view". That's what I did, expecting that eventually it would complete and I would be done. There is NOTHING to indicate you have to talk to the dwarf, "sit and look at the view" implies silently sit there with him. And this is after the stupid thing where you sit but you have to ALSO click the action button for some reason.

So anyway - /sit. Then click the action button. Then click on the dwarf to initiate dialog (you know, while you're quietly admiring the view). Then ask lots of inane, badly scripted questions and get fairly boring, cliched answers (at least to start).

You can't just /sit and expect to click on the dwarf to start a conversation. Click the extra action bar, likely hard to see since it might be in front of your existing actions. (Once in the phase, you also have an Exit button that takes you out of it, also likely overlapping your existing actions buttons.) Once clicked, then click the dwarf and continue the entire conversation. Do not leave and get up until the entire story is told.

If anyone is curious how this works behind the scenes, there are NINE hidden tracking quests that keep track of which dialogs your character has seen for Stay a While:

-- First dialog complete
-- Second dialog complete
-- Third dialog complete
-- Fourth dialog complete
-- Fifth dialog complete
-- Sixth dialog complete
-- Seventh dialog complete
-- Eighth dialog complete
-- Final dialog complete

If you say you are busy in order to skip, you can always come back later and finish listening where you left off.

Only after completing are you offered the follow-up quest, Memories.

You cannot just use /sit to sit with him, you have to use the icon box that pops up on your screen (mine was hard to notice because of my UI, where it kindly blended in with my action bar)

I love this quest. After hours spent in Dracthyr starting zone, figuring out spells and talents, professions etc... This quest was great to relax, enjoy the view and the dwarft's story. I'm having a blast in Dragonflight so far, let me tell you. And I barely touched the surface of the expansion.

If you actually have to get up and leave, you can come back and the extra action button will (should) pop back up for you. This will allow you to complete the conversation, and get the follow-up quests.

Teldrassil has only existed for like 20 years. I was there when it was planted, I helped cull the weeds myself.

Interesting backstory and worth doing at least once. For me, that's as far as it goes. Can't understand why WoW developers keep going for non-skippable content but here it is again. Perhaps it's a power trip or just to see how many people will put up with it for each of their alts. At least it's not part of the main questline this time like it was in Shadowlands.

If anyone's stuck, you need to click on an ability that's in the "Extra Ability" window in the HUD and then continue to talk to him. Took me ages to figure that one out as I'd completely reconfigured my HUD and covered the extra ability window by accident.

While listening to the dwarf's story (i didn't skip even though it was the second time) i realized the current track playing was Tragedy by the BeeGees.

The only thing I dislike about this quest is that it's weird and kind of immersion-breaking that he refers to the player - no matter what - as if they aren't also a dragon. I get that dracthyr aren't true dragons, but there's plenty of other dragonkin who are treated as dragons, and if you're playing as a dracthyr his story comes off really insensitive and condescending considering they literally just woke up from a, what, 20,000 year stasis? Like, what you think everything is the same to them, too? Idk, makes it a lot less enjoyable that they didn't change it for that perspective lol. Like what's the point of playing a dragon if all the NPCs are going to act like you're human?

Ok just to be even more clear, first you will get a special action key, you can't just /sit. afterwards, you have to right-click/interact with Veritistrasz and choose some dialog options (multiple times, after he finishes talking). I sat for a couple minutes before realizing there was a special action key, and then just waited there again for several minutes (Veri will start saying things like "Hmm..." and whatnot), but you have to actually interact with him and choose the dialog options).

So, I have a very peculiar issue with this quest. I don't see an extra action button when standing near him. If I click on him & select his first dialogue option which is "Can I sit with you and listen to your stories again?" it teleports me over to the center edge of the end of the platform so I'm about 20 yards away from him. Therefor I'm unable to click on him due to being too far away from & it also locks me into place as if I'm in a vehicle. I can't move, I can only jump in place. Clicking the exit vehicle button does nothing & I'm unable to log out. The only one way I can become unstuck is to Alt+F4 & upon logging back in, I'm able to move again. I've tried disabling all of my addons but it still doesn't change anything.

Blizzard could have done this quest with voice-over actors. You click, like, 12 monologue interactions, forget about it every each of them, and go do other stuff of your life. 30 minutes has passed

It's a quite beautiful scene, really. Key piece of info was: IF YOU HAVE MODIFIED YOUR INTERFACE LOOK FOR THE "MISSING" ACTION BUTTON CAREFULLY! It's there.
