Should just have every single aoe ability that was hit all now go to 8. The randomness of their choices makes it stupid as hell.
Understandable, though frustrating but understandable. The other classes, I assume, will be hit with nerfs too like Fire Mages and DHs..DKs and every other spec/class. I'm assuming if your ability has a good cd like Bladestorm's 1 minute long cd, it gets to hit 8 targets. If it's something like Divine Storm where there is no CD to it or has a very short CD like Brutal Slash, then it goes down to 5 targets capped. I assume, also, this is to prevent completely rushing and trivializing content like we have been doing all BFA/Legion long. They already said before they don't like people rushing content like that since it not only takes away from their artwork (going so fast you can't really see their dungeons much), but it also is toxic to new players and new learners because we, as players, end up wanting to go go go instead of taking our time.
Don't make Shadowlands worse than Battle for Azeroth, please Blizzard.
Well now we can finally see bad changes instead of only positive news. I played Legion and BfA only because we have mythic keystones, so if you ruin last fun activity in the game, I'll quit.
I think this might primarily be an experiment they did for reducing server latency. It would reduce the calculations the server has to do in large groups of mobs or even crowds of players by a lot.
They keep doing things they already did and then removed cause it was bad. They just don't ever seem to learn do they.
I don't mind too much as long as they don't limit tanks AoE cap, because we will then have way more trouble holding aggro in AoE situations. 5 targets is AoE target limit of Fury warriors and Marksman Hunters, so it evens out the playing field for them. I think if they wanted to change the AoE mechanic, then they should have done then "Current target takes 100%, all other targets take 50% damage" mechanic they implemented in BfA on some abilities.

All in all this is a really good change hope they go through with it and don't give in to players demandsIf old content suffering a little bit is the price i have to pay for having less lag overall, more and better strategies in dungeons and more class variety in M+ then im im more than happy to pay that price.My worry is what is going to happen to fury that was already capped to 5 targets before, hope whirlwind will still give the ability to cleave my ST abilities 2 times.
Except for the fact that Fire mages got pretty heavily touched with Fireblast sparking ignite to 8 targets.
Hopefully this wont make it to live.
