So I’m kinda wondering if this is just for the first switchback... because theoretically you’d lose more and more trust with the covenant every time you leave... I wouldn’t be surprised if upon every switch back to a covenant that the quest requirements will increase and it will take longer to switch back each time. Kind of how it used to cost 1 gold to change your talents the first time but the cost went up every time. So the first time takes two days second time maybe three, third time maybe five...etc... in this model it might even be possible to become so untrusted that at some point you wouldn’t be able to switch back at all... that would take the cake...
Lots of people seem unable to put a finger on why restrictions in gaming is good. I like seeing that variety in my groups beyond just the classes themselves. It's something I'm looking forward to in Shadowlands. The various transmogs will be nice, as well as seeing what people pick for their Soulshapes, or hearing my friends' experiences with their different covenants knowing I can experience that easily on an alt or during the off-season.Balance-wise, it should be moments like: "Oh hey, we actually have X covenant in the group! We get to use the buff!" versus "Damnit we can't start until we have someone with it, this sucks!" like how it felt in Court of Stars. It should be "Oh hey my friend's doing really well in this fight. Must favor his covenant some. Cool." versus "Oh gawd my friend suckkkks, why can't he pull first place dps on all fights, I shouldn't have him as my friend anymorrrre."Play the game to enjoy it. If you're doing more than that, ask what your goal is, and if it's really that important to reach. I play as a tank, and an easy one at that, letting me experience a lot of the game without it being overly taxing for me. This is extra important for me as I get older and less able to adapt to the complex nature of modern gaming. I totally get going out and picking a covenant based on public recommendation, but if you're doing MOST things right, you shouldn't have to freak out about XYZ not being perfectly maximized all the time. For me, I will pick the covenant I enjoy, and then within it try to pick the Soulbinds that work best for how I want to experience the game. If I'm not 99th-percentile, so what? Did we kill the boss? Were any problems that happened because of my gameplay? Those questions are far more important.I've been told all sorts of things before about how to play my class, and at the end of the day, even after trying those things, I like the way I play better, and I get the jobs done just fine without holding my group back. So no, I don't see the need to allow for frequent and repeated swaps of your Covenant. I would find it obtrusive to put me in a position that I have to give up the fun of flavor in order to appease the 'maximize everything' crowd. If there's natural restrictions in place that make it far less feasible to do that, then it won't be demanded of people to as much of an extreme. If you open the door to allow everything, you instead require everything. A system with less-than-lenient restrictions is indeed a better system, and the thought that 'it wouldn't hurt my experience' is, in my view, backwards from what I predict.
The funny thing will be if that is the requirement for the first time, and 2nd time they try to come back the requirements are doubled xD
The playerbase definitely has issues and this can be clear the moment you hear some WoW players talk, here's a few direct quotes from an interview with the ahses of creation dev with asmon.Ashes MMO dev: You playing WoW a lot?WoW player: Oh yeah I love WoW, I ve been playing wow for 15 years manAshes MMO dev: Holy moly that's a whileWoW player: Yeah it's too long, this game sucksAshes MMO dev: talks about missing the WoW boat cuz he was into lineage 2 at the timeWoW player: Honestly man you probably didnt miss much.First they start by saying how they love WoW, then they say this game sucks and people dont miss much by playing it, that is definitely a serious psychological problem in the playerbase.
Is anybody going to give any examples of the harm #pulltheripcord would cause the "casual" player? Because nobody has made a convincing case. You can still have your mounts, toys, tints, achievements, lore, etc. locked behind covenants. The wish is for power systems to be excluded.
If you're going to waste my time that you suddenly keep abilities on a loop you might as well literally just make it a talent bar that WoWhead did better than Blizzard thinking#PulltheRipcord
They cant. The entire argument that Covenant power only effects the one percent is bs and made by people who simply want to belittle others as they dont care about the changes as they dont effect them as much. The same can be said for the people claiming there is "choice" with this. No there isnt. Are you insane? The choice of covenants does NOTHING outside lock you outside of powers and soulbinds of other covenants. Story-wise it does jack all. Covenants will still actively ask you for help regardless of the side you pick. There is nothing to this choice that effects your story almost at all outside of "some" storylines within those covenants. Power-wise its the exact same scenario. It doesnt matter if you micromanage your dps or not, many people will feel pigeon holed into a covenant they dont personally like because of the fact they know that covenant does more dps or helps you heal more or whatever else. Its so tiring that people continue to put their fingers in their ears and tell those asking for help to f off. Im not saying those who disagree dont deserve to have their opinion heard, but acting as though there is any real "choice" to any of this is disingenuous at best. And Im sure someone is going to make the argument that there is "choice" when you pick the covenant with the better abilties. No, there is not. Thats not choosing properly, thats being told by the game that YOU are not allowed to do the maximum or as good as your peers because YOU are going to choose a covenant that actively knee caps your overall performance.Do you really think a player who wants to play Kyrian but ends up choosing Rivendreth because it is the better decision for their performance enjoys sitting there running a covenant they just dont feel attached to? Blizzard needs to do one of two things. Either A) Make them like an open talent tree where you can swap them at will or B) Just make the Covenants cosmetic. I dont understand Blizzards active obsession with this idea that they need to give borrowed power at every turn. It doesnt help and it actively harms a decent portion of the playerbase. The same thing ALSO goes for Conduits? Why the hell are they locking you out of changing them to once a week? That is literally just there to time gate you and for no other reason whatsoever
