Hard stuck Rivals became Glads with certain OP class and comp and corruption carry if fully maxed out with gear.So you ask me was it good? Depends how you look at it, it helped mediocre players to advance higher then ever before but was it good in general? I would say no. If 70% your damage is from corruption/azerite abilities you know the game is bad.Guilds became Cutting Edge in Corruption patch who were stuck at 5/8 on all pre-patches before it.Corruption was a casual friendly patch. In terms of rng "boosted dmg" for players to advance it was good!
Corruption for me was both fun and terrible. It was fun for me, because it was legit the first gearing system Blizzard ever implemented in which the meta was continually changing. For example, all Vers build for high keys was not discovered until MONTHS into the patch. IMO, this is good and definitely more innovative than simply knowing what you need before a patch even launchs and never (or barely) changing throughout. Also, it was fun, because like essences (at least for some classes I played) offered different gearing choices depending on the scenario. For example IS for ST fights, with TD for keys or hectic add cleave fights. IMO, giving player choices like this is always a good thing. And of course, the amount of power they offered, was still kind of fun from a power fantasy standpoint. That said, the fun of corruption decayed over the course of the patch. Corruption's kiss/curse system on paper sounds interesting and maybe it was for the first few weeks. However, not long after you started receiving gear, did you realize what level of corruption you can sustain without dying and for the ENTIRE patch you just had to deal with the negative affixes (slow, eye, thing from beyond). I mean, 8 months of being slowed and running out of, or away from incoming damage become real obnoxious, real fast. However, because you can technically handle it, you just had to put up with it. I absolutely CANNOT wait until prepatch just to never see another thing from beyond or corruption circle again. Also, another huge problem with corruption was how much power it contributed to players. For this entire patch, top parses on raid bosses was ALWAYS about one thing ... corruption. Plus the imbalance of RNG based corruption (IS, TD) altered a players performance considerably from one pull to the next a great deal. You can be parsing in the top 100 percentile one pull or top 50 percentile in another. I mean, the difference was just stupid.
A bad system implemented on top of bad balancing to make it even worse.
I don't think there was a way that you did not feel that the system was !@#$ing you in some way. Lets say the vendor had the corruption you wanted, well odds are you didnt have enough echos to fully kit yourself. So you buy as much as you can, apply it to your gear, then you get an upgrade but don't have the corruption for it. Then if the vendor doesn't have the corruption you want, you sit at the bottom of the logs watching the other guys have fun. Then you buy as much of the corruption that you want and the cycle repeats. Eventually yes you end up getting kitted out, but not after feeling you've been taken advantage of for a long time.
I mean the intent was good, but it wasn't implemented very well. Having a lot of your damage come from things that weren't your skills or having tanks out damage every dps because they were using twilight devastation. Good idea, but poorly implemented.
if the vendor wasn't in a weekly rotation to stall game time corrup would've been some ok-ish system yet they just make ppl angry.. so no pls never do that again thx bai
They replaced RNG that people disliked with even more RNG. What a horrible system. I am glad it will be gone soon.
No
Bye ! See you never again !
i say it was stupid fun and i stick to that... it was hilarious to me, watching my arms swing his axe like he was having spasms. 80% haste before proccs and buffs is just nuts... but i loved playing m+ and watching my bleeds do a &*!@load of dmg, hell i simmed nearly 130k on singletaget. and the mage! gosh... fire was insane and frost with his 1mill.glacials... freaking stupid :D loved itnothing of this is a flex, inbefore someone taking it the wrong way. 8.3 was simply a nuthouse, looney bin... oh yeah... it was about n'zoth wasn't it? don't get me wrong, corruption was bad, the cloak-grind beyond silly, corruption and alts just didn't work (i got 2 chars to res 125, i just couldn't be bothered doing anymore of that stuff), dps was waaaay out off line, everything seemed broken, i can't imagine how bad arena/rbg must've been, because i skipped that completely in s4... yet it was fun for the monkey in me who especially likes big numbers :)glad i was around, when 8.3 happened
Pretty annoying as a casual and you're trying to gear up through world quests, and every damn piece gets corruption on it so you can't wear them and increase your ilvl.It is also reeeeeally bad for pvp.
Corruption was the worst system Blizzard has ever implemented. The better system was MOP's valor upgrade system which you didn't even mention.
Azerite made me stop playing BFA. Corruption made me uninstall.
The rotten cherry on top of a lackluster expansion.
Whoever came with the idea of corruption should be fired and throw in jail. Then punish till the end of his/her days. My god what an awful and horrible system. 8.3 was the lowest point in WoW history.
Had the vendor been in game since the launch of 8.3, I may still be subbed. Instead here I am watching WoWhead for the prepatch drop date and reading articles waiting for whats next. I eventually burned out from farming for gear and hoping to hit that proverbial lottery and get a corruption I wanted/needed for my main spec and off spec. Even going back to early expansion and Azerite gear, had Azerite been able to freely switch spec selections with spec swap, that could have alleviated some of the frustrations early in the expansion which could have lead to more tolerance with the systems later on. Instead you had to do content over and over and hope to get that piece of Azerite to round out your main and off specs. Sure, you could buy the specific Azerite after months (or 6 weeks if I remember correctly) of grinding out currency but that was one piece for one spec. These early expansion oversights/refusal-to-change by Blizzard only compounded the frustrations of the community and I don't know what sub numbers look like right now but I'd expect they are lower than anticipated.
Competitive balance wise, it was a miserable failure. As far as interesting gameplay decisions, it was relatively successful.
Should have been able to turn corruption off for alts - just spent whole time having to go and cleanse WQ and LFR rewards so they didn't have horrible side effects that made the game unpleasant. Glad it's going.
The corruption system alone was certainly not perfect, especially as it was just two additionnal layers of RNG at once (getting the right corruption, but also getting the right tier) but the vendor was even far lower.First the idea for it to reuse an existing currency some players may already have a lot because they only played one or two of their 3-roles class while dps-only classes may only had a few of, if any, as gaining the currency was tied to not having all tier-3 essences. Then the rotation, having to wait multiple weeks to get a 3,5days timeperiod to buy your wanted corruption was really uncool, especially for those who'se wanted corruption was up during the first rotations, but far beyond the amount of currency they could farm... Having all tier-1 corruptions available then a separate item to upgrade it would have been far better for everyone. The cloak grind... the tiresome cloak grind...Finally the ways to gain said currency, yet again forcing people into content they may not like just for the sake of not falling yet further back they already are, but also, may be just a detail but it always tickled me, is seeing how MOTHER tirelessly "cleaned" our items from their corruptions, only to put them into little tupperwares to sell them right back to us, I feel that gaining a few echoes when cleaning a corrupted item, just like the Titan Residuum we get when disenchanting/scrapping azeryte armor, should have been a thing.
No.The cloak grind was bad.The rng on drops was bad.The vendor rotation was bad.The echoes grind was bad.Filling half our bags with "just in case" was bad.Spending hours in raidbots was bad.
