Corruption is just one of those ideas that might sound good but was plain awful to deal with and absurdly unbalanced. Calling it "gimmicky" is the nicest thing I could say about it. Azerite was bad enough, Warforging was bad enough, losing unique, memorable Legendary pieces was bad enough, losing the Artifact weapons was bad enough. I hope to never see anything like it again.Forgot about gem sockets and reforging for a moment, so here's an edit to include those. Call me old but I liked those systems way more than anything recent. Sure it took tinkering to do but at least you could better suit gear or stack stats you actually cared about and wanted.
Corruption is the worst thing they've ever added to the game.
I think it was "ok" as it were the last patch of the expansion because nobody really cares after 6 months that it went out of control, but I can't say it where good.A lot of classes it did the majority of the damage over class skills while others just went out of control after it was stackedM+ got weird as you just stacked versatility in the end, making it the one stat that dominated it all.---Overall BFA did have 1 horrible addition and 2 "ok", the whole expansion has been " overcomplicated older simpler system".Azerite where just overcomplicated "1 more talent row", for most it was only 2-3 choices that were worth something or did something anyway. Otherwise, there where this "neutral" part that just gave you lots of damage but no interaction. Just more painful RNG farming and restriction on gear that felt like a throwback to when secondary stats dominated. You know what system worked about the same in the past but better? It is straight-up just old glyph system but worse, basically choose 3 glyphs and get "azurite" powers you wanted. A lot of time it where just use BiS, but at least you were not so restricted. A lot of the "inner rings" where just filler that used to be attached to trinkets.---Essence could be good but it ended up as you expected, 10% useful and 90% trash that you just collect for achievements. I think they were "ok" since at most did just get a faster major CD, better resources or some passive /nuke damage. Downside they force you to do content that you don't want to do, but it were not a major problem.
No. The corruption system was terrible. You shouldn't get corrupted gear until you have the cloak. You also shouldn't have to go through an hour long boring quest line on every character to get the cloak. It was bearable the first time, but every time afterwards it was annoying and slow. The choice was either spend an hour doing something you've already done with no differences, never use any gear that's been dropped, or die instantly from the lack of corruption resistance. 8.3 was simply annoying. The corruption mechanics, the zone enemies, the great worms from beyond, the cloak quest line. I hate every part of it.
I'll be glad to see corruption gone while also not bringing warforge/titanforge back, and I'm extremely glad for the changes to gear they're doing in Shadowlands. I think it's great to remove most of the randomness of gearing so that it's exciting again. Legendaries being targetable is a great change as well, and if I recall I think they're bringing tier sets back in the 2nd tier? If not that would also be a great thing to bring back. Overall Shadowlands is looking promising in this aspect.
Really bad addition, worse thing they added. If you unsubed for 2-3 months as me (I needed break from this thrash corruption) you couldn't catch up others.
i just don't carewas funvendor should have been available sooner and allow us to burn corrupted item and get back some currency
for me, corruption was the best mechanic they would think.... extremely poorly aplieda mechanic where u get bonuses in trade for debuffs? thats like the good ol' talents from board rpg but then, they added the RNG and.... it became the worst mechanic ever implemented in mmorpg history
