With the new achievement Zul'Again on the PTR, players can now try to kill some of these new troll rare spawns in 5.2 that drop crafting materials and mounts like Reins of the Slate Primordial Direhorn. Blizzard has stated that these rare spawns can drop one of three mounts, reputation items, and crafting materials.

The 3 mounts seem to be Reins of the Slate Primordial Direhorn Reins of the Amber Primordial Direhorn Reins of the Jade Primordial Direhorn as drops from rare spawns, there is also Reins of the Cobalt Primordial Direhorn that is speculated to be obtainable via some other fashion, but we have no info as to how.

Confirmed by WoW Rare Spawns to drop from the Zandalari Warbringers. These NPCs spawn on a mount, which is in one of three colors. This color matches up with the mount type that you have a small chance to win when you kill them!

Its dropped from the Zandalari Warbringers the new added rare elites. Those NPC spawn on 5 different locations in Pandaria either all together or one by one. Its confirmed that they drop a mount similar color to the one the ride after you kill them. As for now there isn't any accurate Drop chance but its certainly not 100%.

Its suggested a group of 3+ to kill this NPC as it has 21M life but its also soloable by all classes which its time consuming

The animation for this mount is pretty cool. When you hit the space bar while standing still, the mount will hit his tail on the ground three times then rear back and roar.

Ok, there seems to be an issue at least on my server, so I'm guessing may be the same on others.

Firstly, the rares seem to have a 30-70 minute respawn timer. The Pterrorbird's have nothing to do with he spawn, that are literally just markers or beacons for people to help find these rare locations. Secondly, the warscoutscouts seem to be on their own spawn timers, they can spawn before, during and after warbringers.

Now on to my main point, the Warbringers DO NOT RESET THROUGH DISTANCE. There seems to be some confusion on my server with this. A lot of people seem to throw their dummies in the corner when they miss out on the tag. Many result to whispering the group members furiously trying to distrance them, while others take it upon themselves to attempt to reset the mob trough taunt spamming the rare and kiting, often, to different ends of zone the rare is in. The only way that this will ever reset the mob is if you force it to 'bug out'.

After ticketing a GM about this, the GMs say that exploitation is a cause for banning people, and are willing to ban people for what they attempt to do. Dragging the mob into water in Dreadwastes for example. I had a group who tried 4 times to reset the mob, fortunatly, my group retained the tag and got the kill (no mount). However, aoeing around the mob is not an exploitation, so aoe as much as you need. The more in your group the better tag wise.

So to sum it up:

The mobs do not reset through distance, if they reset it is a bug.
Purposefully resetting the mob is a bannable offence.
Aoeing around the mob is not an exploit, so continue to do so at your pleasure.

Hello, fellow "dragon" hunters!
Id like to clarify few details about these mobs.

First of all, they spawn at 5 different locations and all 5 of them spawn.

They share those spots with lesser rares but they ALWAYS spawn, no matter how many of lesser rares are spawned before. Warbringers are the ones youre looking for, they have a chance about 10% to contain your mount and they also contain +1000 reputation tokens to various factions and two kinds of containers, one drops crafting material, the socond one may drop ilv 440 epic gear. Lesser rares are called Warscouts and their drop is the same except the mount.

The respawn time of Warbringers is 35 minutes to 55 minutes.
The shortest respawn Iv seen was 36minutes and the longest exceeded 50minutes.

Warbringers spawn sitting on Triceratopses of various color and when killed have a chance to drop a mount of that specific color (remains to be confirmed).
There are at least 3 different mounts - Jade, Slate and Amber Direhorn.

While Warscouts are easily soloable, Warbringers are extremely chalenging to solo, especially for non tanks. I recommend you bring two of your friends with you.

Be aware that there are certain "ways" that can be used against you by other players while trying to achieve the kill. Happened to myself that a druid used his taunt several times, pulled the rare so far away that it reseted and his friend taged it afterwards. Also a group of horde players turned pvp on and waited till I accidentaly hit them with non-direct spell and then swoop upon me.
Took me about 8kills to get mine Slate Direhorn but Iv lost many attempts in the process.

There were 7 newly added direhorn mounts in 5.2

Reins of the Golden Primal Direhorn - Requires Kirin Tor Offensive Exalted and 3000 gold (without discounts) - Alliance only
Reins of the Crimson Primal Direhorn - Requires Sunreaver Onslaught Exalted and 3000 gold (without discounts) - Horde only

Note: If you obtain one of these mounts on one of your characters, all of your characters will have it. Though, your Alliance characters will have the Golden Primal Direhorn, while your Horde characters will have the Crimson Primal Direhorn.

Reins of the Cobalt Primordial Direhorn - Rare drop from Oondasta

Oondasta is a new world boss in 5.2, and spawns in Isle of Giants (Long respawn timer).
If you're going for this mount, make sure you take a Mogu Rune of Fate with you.

The NPC reset through distance. I have a mage on the alliance and used to solo them, but yesterday while I was killing him, a hunter and a dk from ally too start taunting him so far until he resets, then other mage from their group stayed on the spot and got the tag. That was stupidly boring for me.

Everyone seems to have the bases covered on where the Zandalari Warbringers spawn, so I'll help out a little with something not-so-often mentioned. Drop-rates, for those of you trying to figure out if this is worth your time.

According to Rarity, here are the droprates, per Zandalari Warbinger kill:

Reins of the Amber Primordial Direhorn 1/25 or 4%
Reins of the Jade Primordial Direhorn 1/25 or 4%
Reins of the Slate Primordial Direhorn 1/25 or 4%

However, Reins of the Cobalt Primordial Direhorn only drops off of Oondasta at the extremely low rate of 1/2000. Not too bad, considering the Tiny Crimson Whelping drop-rate is 1/10000, but it IS a rare world boss that you have to fight, rather than endlessly grind level 20-30 mobs.

For those of you who are curious, I picked up my Reins of the Amber Primordial Direhorn just the other day after about 4 Warbringer kills, in a group of 5 people, after watching someone win the first one that dropped, as well as about 2k gold's worth of items from bag drops.

Is it worth your time? I think yes. Good luck all!

Just want to say that this mount was dropped within a party of 5 members, the leader was the master looter which indicated the loot rules saying nothing is reserved and the mount will be rolled for, we rolled on it and I won. Unfortunetly the leader stole the mount. Posted a ticket and the next day I got the mount.

To sum it up, always tell the master looter to clarify the loot rules else he will be able to ninja it in-case of you doing this hunt with other people.

If you want this mount, and have a couple hours on your hands this way of farming can generate a fairly good amount of kills on Warbringers and will hopefully land you a mount.

Ok, i've farmed over 70-100 of Warbringers using a CROSS REALM PARTY METHOD

Using an external website, or even your friends list if you know the right people, create a group of 3-5 people of all different realms. When you create a party everyone moves to your realm, AND vice-versa, so you can potentially farm 3-5 Warbringers per single spot on multiple realms(please note this doesn't guarantee they aren't killed on the other servers)

EXAMPLE:

You want to farm Warbingers, so you create a party of 5 people from different realms to farm them.

Each player flies to the same position in the party. If the current realm Warbingers is dead, then all players would leave party, to be sent back to there realms so they can check if theirs is alive. If the warbingers is alive on that players realm, THAT PLAYER MUST BE THE ONE inviting the party back so that everyone will be on there realm for the kill.

What this does for you, is allows you to potentially kill 20 Warbingers per hour, with each fight lasting a few minutes + Flight time, you can literally NON-STOP FARM these guys till you receive your mounts.

Key Notes:

NOTE: There can not be more than 2 people from the same realm. If there are 3 of you from the same realm, it will always transfer the other players to your realm regardless of who is party leader.

NOTE: Loot IS shared cross realm, so for those of you who will say that another realms player will be ineligible for the mount if it dropped, YOU'RE WRONG!

Reins of the Amber Primordial Direhorn is certainly a rare thing.
Keep in mind the mount itself isn't that rare at all but what makes it rare is that 'almost' on all servers (I have farmed five different servers so I think it counts for all servers) is that it doesn't spawn that often.

Warbringers spawn on five different locations: dread wastes, karassang wilds, townlong steppes, jade forest and kun-lai summit if you happen to be on a low populated server (means you got all for yourself) it means that you usually meet 2-5 slate direhorns and 1-2 jade direhorns with the rare spawn of 1-2 amber (this not calculated purely my experience and talking with other players)

I farmed this mount straight for 24 hours with partners to speed up the proces (I say kill all so you might have a chance for a respawn of a amber if you are in the same situation) the point is Amber is the most rare of them all so do not pass this one to other people in those 24 hours of straight farming I've had 4 partners and all my partners gained slate and jade direhorn before I got amber

extra tip for the tokens and bags to drop
after you hit honored with any faction buy the increased by 100% token so instead of gaining 1,1k rep per token you start gaining 2,2k it just speeds up the proces and its usefull if you farm with multiple people.
and the bag is simple never pass the bags there could be stacks of golden lotus in it (usually 60g a piece), sha Crystals, ethereal Crystals or epic gear pieces (level 85-87) or lots of other different herbs
extra tip for farming the mounts
try to bring a lot of different people from different servers bring 2-3 people from different servers to keep drops realistic. Kill the warbringer then divide loot next(don't split up before loot is devided) step is to not move on to the next position but to all leave party and see if anyone got a spawn before if you do that person invites the others if you don't happy hunting to next place!

I have farmed these guys for a while, easily soloable as a guardian druid. Definitely don't reset on distance, one reset on me 3 times because of fear. I've had them reset as little as 15 years from spawn point. I've found that they are very buggy at times.

When farming the warbringers for these mounts, I found it "slightly" tricky to distinguish between the amber and the slate direhorn. For anyone trying to pick up either of these as their last set of reins, it is worth to notice that this direhorn has yellow eyes and tongue, whereas the slate direhorn has blue eyes and tongue. As a reference, the jade direhorn has purple eyes and tongue, but overall sticks out more compared to the two others.

So far dbm has tracked about 70 kills , though it makes no distinction between color killed or even between warbringers and warscouts, I can say with confidence/ of the kills have been warbringers.

I've solo'd on my hunter and had 1 amber and 2 slate drop so far. Now I still kill other warbringers but try to focus on getting the jade. At the beginning I felt the drop rate was higher than 5%.. more like 10-20, mainly because i got 2 slate within an hour, now I'm starting to think 5% is more accurate.

With gear in 5.4.8 it's fairly easy to solo for most classes, as a BM hunter I have no trouble kiting it around while keeping my pet healed and blowing my cooldowns.

As a level 90 Retribution Paladin, I find I am able to solo the Warbringers with no problems, except sometimes a few Horde trying to steal the kill near death - which is my main issue with Warbringers on a player VS player realm.

In my time killing Warbringers I have defeated about 30 - 40 now, have full rep and all the mounts - which I had no problem acquiring as all the kills were done solo. I would highly recommend trying to do these without a group, because its a lot easier to get the mounts without others rolling against you.

Some facts;

There are 5 possible spawn points in Pandaria, and each spawn spot has a re-spawn timer of 30 to 60 minutes. Each spawn spot is independent of the others. There can be more than 1 up at once, all 5 can be up at once (I have killed 6 in a row, flying from one spot to the next, straight after a server restart, able to get 6 due to kind crz).

Here are the figures over a month of camping all five possible spawn points, checking to see whether different spots favour different Warbringers.

In Jade Forest, 47 kills; 17 Slate, 17 Amber, 13 Jade.
Dread Wastes, 40 kills; 14 Slate, 11 Amber, 15 Jade.
Townlong Steppes, 43 kills; 14 Slate, 13 Amber, 16 Jade.
Kun-Lai, 50 kills; 18 Slate, 12 Amber, 20 Jade.

Pretty even so far, absolutely.... But here it is,

Krasarang Wilds, 25 kills; 25 Slate, 0 Amber, 0 Jade.

I have 205 total kills, with 88 of them being slate.
(63 slate, 53 amber, 64 jade - taking out Krasarang)

The last mount for me to get was Jade, when it dropped I already had had 7 Slate mounts and 2 Amber mounts.

Can anyone else confirm this in Krasarang Wilds, or have I just had amazingly bad RNG?

With the prepatch for Legion, the Zandalari Warbringer that drops this mount and the others like it have become Personal Loot. You can now tag this mob with at least four of your friends, and each of you gets a chance at the mount and other loot. You cannot, however, share the tag with members of the other faction.

This bastard FINALLY dropped for me today. Took over 150 Amber kills ALONE, not to mention the countless other two colors I had to kill in that time.

Started farming these about 2 months ago. Got the Slate day 1 after about 9 kills. Jade dropped day 2 after about 24 total kills. This one, though, was such a !@#$% to get. Since then, I've seen 9 slate mounts and 5 Jade, but never the Amber, until today.

Thank God I can finally stop farming these damn things. Hopefully others have better luck then me.

So I was leveling my level 96 death knight in pandaria...came across the mob for this. It's silver bordered, sure I'll kill it.

Hmm, this is taking a while...but I got there. And it drops a mount! Sweet. I didn't know. I come on here to see that it's 5% drop rate.

Sorry to everyone farming this when I can just get it without even knowing there is a mount drop!

i think the stars have align for me since i was doing the quest for unlocking the little city for the pumpkin halloween candy and ive seen a warscout so i thought the warbringer could might aswell respawn, and BAM got the mount. Now i have all 3 and didint even farm that much. Its funny how hard they are too get when you think about that you need to wait for a respawn 1 hour then you have 33% chance for the good colour to respawns and then 4% to drop it. good luck nerds

I successfully farmed the 3 Warbringer mounts over the last week or so very casually and figured I'd report my results:

I farmed the mounts using class trial characters on RP Realms. I made Druids simply because flight form was faster than mounting but any class works. When you make the class trial skip the intro by walking to the back of the zepplin/airship and mounting the windrider/gryphon. From there you'll be taken to SW or Org, where you'll go take the portal to Dalaran. *At this time select your Warmode setting, I had 2 characters per realm, one with Warmode on, one off. You can have up to 12 class trials and make up to 4 per hour*. From Dalaran take the portal to Shrine, and fly to your first target. I would log out if a warbringer wasnt up in the location and try another server/WM Phase, its not worth flying to all 5 locations just to find none are up. If the first was up I would fly to the next spawn point until I either farmed all 5 or ran into one that wasnt up at which point I'd switch over.

To get all 3 mounts took:
Slate - 45 Kills
Amber - 30 Kills
Jade - 28 Kills

The realms I used were:
Argent Dawn
Blackwater Raiders
Cenarion Circle
Earthen Ring
Steamwheedle Cartel (All US)

Total /played time between all class trials was about 4.5 hours.

Started farming these guys while I was farming Huolon for his mount as it's basically on the way. 2 weeks in, I've killed them each 4-7 times a day for 14 days without a single mount drop. Will update as I continue

Yes, it will took you propably long time to collect all 3 of them with 5% drop rate and random colour spawn, but you can make it little bit faster.

Some basic informations you are looking for:

Zandalari Warbringer - Reins of the Jade Primordial Direhorn
Zandalari Warbringer - Reins of the Amber Primordial Direhorn
Zandalari Warbringer - Slate Primordial Direhorn

YOU CANNOT LOOT THEM WITH TRIAL CHARACTER.
All of them have 5% drop chance for mount. You can get same mount drop multiple times. Each Warbringer drop specifically colour of Direhorn as have itself. Zandalari Warscout have 0.01% drop chance for mount. In each zone can spawn 2 Zandalari Warscout who then walk throughout the zone. If you wont found any Warbringer, try kill Warscouts, sometimes it help me spawn them.

They are sharing spawn locations:

/way Krasarang Wilds 39.08, 67.13
/way Dread Wastes 47.47, 61.32

I started casually on my "main" character on high populated EU realm, spawn time for Zandalari Warbringer was pain, mainly if you want cover all 5 locations (it took about 3 hours), finally after about 6 kills Zandalari Warbringer I got my first Direhorn - Slate Primordial Direhorn.
The main problems of farming Direhorns is spawn time, people one shoting it (if they are from oposite faction or dont get you into group, your waiting time just reseted), 3 different Warbringer colours wich drop 3 specific coloured direhorn and multiple spawn locations all over Pandaria.

So I decided make 2 new characters on 2 different language low populated RP realms just for farming Warbringers. From 3 hour camping I can get 5 spawns with mobs up in about 10-15 minutes.

I didnt made any further notes about kill counts, but long story short:
1. - 13hours /played
2. - 14 hours /played
Both together:
3 characters all four reputations exalted (2 of them from neutral)
Jade Primordial Direhorn 4x
Slate Primordial Direhorn 3x (included one wich I didnt have)
Stolen Golden Lotus Insignia 56x
Stolen Shado-Pan Insignia 48x
Stolen Klaxxi Insignia - 39x
Stolen Celestial Insignia - 72x

Today I got my last mount Zandalari Warbringer - Reins of the Amber Primordial Direhorn.
A while later I headed to Timeless Isle to wait for the Huolon spawn and while I was trying to jump on the bridge to camp he appeared and unfortunately with an "out of range" bug. After a bit of searching, I found that a relog was enough to solve it. In the end, it turned out that my bad luck was super luck and I got my Reins of the Thundering Onyx Cloud Serpent on the very first kill :).

Some stats from me.

Dropped on:
1) Slate - 66
2) Amber - 54
3) Jade - 100! (can someone beat my record?)

Overall killed:
210+ slate - 10 reins
110+ amber - 6 reins
100 jade - 1 reins

So it looks like 4% is the true chance, but still it can drop from some unbelievable numbers. Never give up!

Tips for hunting these.
1. Scouts appear before the Bringer. I've not seen them drop the mount, but that could be accounting for the .1% drop rate reported here. The reason these are important beyond rep tokens, is they help you set timers for war bringers at a 4% drop rate. So when multiple scouts go down you know time is getting short. I've seen scouts spawn in the order of scout/warbringer/scout, and scout/scout/warbringer. Never any other configurations have I seen. Regardless when they start popping it's time to sit park and clear the three and set timer for at least 30.
2. Being in a group of five to cover every spawn point is your best bet!
3. Remember that in old loot rules you cannot share tags outside of a group of 5.
4. Make sure you are not in a raid or you will not be able to loot.
5. As with all Rare hunting it is wise to use Add-Ons such as Silver Dragon for spotting rares and notifying you.
6. The spawn timers from my experience tend to vary, but one thing is for sure. After one point is downed you will not see anything for 30 minutes at least. So you can move to the next spot if doing this without full group. (keeping track of spawn times is essential for farming).
7. Something so many people forget. With looting you need tag or to be close. Best bet is tag as a group before kill. You should not body pull any rare and expect to hold it, TLPD, Aeonaxx, or these. Anyone swinging by can give you a bad experience. So to give yourself the tag without killing the rare it is imperative that you cast something on it that doesn't do damage. Below I will link my Macro I use for these guys. Note that my cast in the Macro gives me tag without dealing damage until my group can arrive. You can sub my dispel magic out with anything including a damaging spell for solo farming. Instant tag on target. Please believe this is very important. Especially in group hunting for important rares. An accidental kill will cause a lot of heart ache. Remember after you have tag to target only yourself so you don't accidentally auto attack it.
