Nice, glad to see some of the novel's lore coming in to play. For those curious but don't know why they would, read "Tides of War" to understand why the Kor'kron, warriors of the Horde, would ambush another Horde faction leader.

This scenario will probably result in Vol'jin's defection form the Horde. Harsh words and mutual distrust is one thing, but once one attempts to kill the other, their coexistence as faction leaders is impossible to maintain.

There is only one choice for Warchief of the Horde, and that is Mankrik. He can survive the loss of his wife, being swamped by Quillboar and telling Warlocks where to go to learn Shadowbolt.

This is -exactly- what I had hoped scenarios would be like when I first heard of them. A pivotal moment in Azerothian history, played out in short-story form, with you taking an active role. The intimacy of a small-group scenario made me really connect with Vol'jin like he's known me as a friend; totally unlike the raid bombast I'm used to ("Heroes! I stand before you now blahblah"). The fight mechanics are varied and interesting, and the whole thing is over in less than ten minutes. A++, would buy from again.

Blizzard has been setting Vol'jin up to be the "reasonable middle" for quite some time now. Thrall was "too soft", and didn't take action when needed. Garrosh is basically a war criminal.

Vol'jin, on the other hand, has always been portrayed as wise, cunning, brutal when needed, a sharp thinker and one who will act when it's called for.

Name is a possible reference to the Lord of the Rings chapter, Knife in the Dark, where Frodo is also stabbed with a knife, poisoned and almost killed.

After reading that you should run away from Rak'gor Bloodrazor when he fixates on you, I found it a lot easier to just stand next to one of the three healing totems that Vol'jin will place at the location. They heal for 20% max health every second and will keep you up easily.

There's one thing you should be aware of, though; Rak'gor will leave behind patches of bad, orange stuff where he engages you after vixating. This will most likely happen at the first totem you stand next to, which means you'll have to move to another totem. The patches despawn, so you will always have two 'save' totems to go to after the first one has been 'patched'.

Some of Vol'jin's spells here are a throwback to Warcraft III. In that game he was a Shadow Hunter. Some Shadow Hunter abilities were given to the Shaman in WoW, like Hex. The two Shadow Hunter spells he uses in Dagger in the Dark are Big Bad Voodoo and Serpent Ward.

Big Bad Voodoo (Ultimate)

Turns all friendly units invulnerable in an area around the Shadow Hunter. The Shadow Hunter does not turn invulnerable. Lasts 30 seconds.

Serpent Ward

Summons an immobile serpentine ward to attack the Shadow Hunter's enemies. The ward has 75/135/135 hit points and is immune to magic. Lasts 40 seconds.

Scenarios are new for WOW and introduced in Mists. Here are a few tips for having a successful scenario. While some of these may seem obvious, not everyone plays the game at the same level and there new players every day.

- Green circles on the ground with a flashing arrow indicate a healing area. Keep an eye on your health and take advantage of these when they are available.

- Don't expect the healing class in your group to provide heals. The scenarios are designed for 3 players of any class to complete. See above.

- Be helpful, considerate and communicate in a positive way. You may have run this scenario 50 times but the other players in your group may be there for the first time. Give players a chance to recuperate between fights, if needed.

- Stay together and work as a team. Things will go much faster and you'll have a better chance at success. If you know a short cut, let the others know.

- Work on the achievements in a pre-made group, rather than expecting 2 other random people to be willing to go for it. It may work out but be advised that most players are just there for a quick way to get Valor.

- If there isn't a tank and you have a lock or hunter in your group, the pets can tank for you as long as you don't pull threat away from them.

If you leave up the blue ground-runes in the tunnel before Broodmaster Noshi, you may use them on the Rak'gor Bloodrazor encounter.

When Broodmaster hits 20%, he will remove the buff stack you may possess. So, once you have downed the 2nd boss in the chamber, BEFORE you inspect the two statues on the opposite ends of the room, go out and reclaim your buffs!

The healing from the runes, along with the bonus damage and haste, will help you. It will assist you in completing You Mean That Wasn't a Void Zone?, if you're pursuing this achievement. This achievement requires you to defeat Rak'gor Bloodrazor without using the THREE blue healing totems in the water area of the floor.

Am I the only one that was a little disappointed they made Vol'jin act as a shaman though lorewise he is a shadowhunter?

Garrosh... Let me list the reasons I hate you.

1. You are an idiot who slaughters innocent lives.
2. You give the Horde a bad reputation.
3. You undo all of Thralls hard work towards peace.
4. You blow up a city, then use NEUTRAL members to further advance your personal agenda, which leads to a lot of innocent deaths.
5. You killed Cairne a wise and GOOD leader.
6. You tried to kill Vol'jin, who could kick your ass if he wasn't afraid of destroying the Horde in the process.
7. You almost killed Anduin Wrynn, who I believe is the key to all the problems on Azeroth. (war, hunger, conflict, etc. etc.)
8. You abuse the warchief title, and warp other horde members to become just as horrible as you.
9. Your stupid guards stop me, the alliance, the horde, and anyone else with a soul, from killing you.
10. You tried to use the sha as an instrument of war. That's like using Nazis as a weapon.

Looks like 5.2 Now lets Alliance get to experience this 3-man an its importance in foreshadowing of lore. Herd it was a good one an Vol'jin is one if not my favorite Horde leader. At last I can get to try this as my only 90.

"Edit" Man oh man, that was a great Scenario, think it gave me chills from the event. Perfectly set up like a short story should. With Siege in progress I now understand what Vol'jin has been though first hand. Defiantly one of the better 3-mans I have done.

Anyone else did blood oath with Vol'jin? Once you kill last boss. Vol'jin will start a dialogue. At the very end he will ask you to: Swear da blood oath with him. Click on him and do it. You and Vol'jin are now bruddahs. I found that to be very cool.

After patch 6.0 you can to speak to Lorewalker Fu in the "Seat of Knowledge" to enter Dagger in the Dark

Lorewalker Fu is located above the Mogu'shan Palace in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms

Be aware, do not enter the cave until you enter stage four, where you board the boat and go into the cave, if you enter the cave before stage four, you might bug the spawning of the boat.
