For some reason it won't allow me to turn this in to Ysera despite having completed it.
Edit(12/26/2020): I abandoned the quest back when first experiencing this issue and today it is available again. This time I was able to complete it and it has a follow up: From a Dark Place.

I logged in today to do the Calling quest Anima Salvage which requires you to go to Torghast, and I intended to run Torghast with my friend. As I ran to get the Calling quest, though, I noticed Ysera was offering this quest to save Night Elf souls. I had seen people on the WoW Story Forums mention they had gotten this quest before, but I had yet to see it before today. I did not pick up the quest as I wanted to video record it, so went and did Torghast, came back, and she still had the quest. However, after I turned in the Anima Salvage Calling she no longer offered the quest.

This leads me to believe that this quest is only available during this Calling, and that a reason people can't turn it in even after having saved the souls is because they turned in the Calling first, like I did before even picking up the quest.

Edit: I can confirm this now, as the Calling quest Anima Salvage was available again today, and upon picking up the Calling quest Ysera once again offered this questchain.

This quest chain popped up for me today. I hit 15 renown a few days ago as some other commenters here did, but others here are not 15 so I don't know what the trigger was.

ETA: On 1/16/21, the week we finished the covenant chapter 9 and reached renown 23, I received two more quests from Ysera to rescue Kaldorei souls from the maw. Both quests were called "No Wisp Left Behind" and do not appear to be documented here on Wowhead. She sent me to the Tremaclum for 8 Kaldorei souls, and when I returned them, she re-offered the same quest name and asked for 8 more rescues. This time, none of the souls were "named" individuals. They bow to Shandris and Ysera and then most of them depart the Heart of the Forest to find someplace in Ardenweald, I guess! A few find spots inside the tree and are called "Night Elf Soul", and offer limited dialog about their new home. I am starting to think that this might be building up an "army" of night elf souls that we will later leverage to help find/save Tyrande.

I will add some info here for those who cannot complete it due to the bugs.

For this quest, Ysera sends you into the Maw, to the Tremaculum to rescue three specific souls who were lost when Teldrassil burned. They are named spirits in the area, and have a tiny bit of text dialog when you click them to rescue them.

When you return to Ysera with the three souls, they materialize next to you in a Night Fae blue form but as their night elf appearances, not an animal. They bow to Shandris, and she returns their respect. They then walk away and take up posts in the Heart of the Forest, as follows:

Astarii Starseeker - stands beside the pool outside the Mushroom transport alongside Jandria. Her dialog is:

When I closed my eyes, I thought the next face I would see would be Elune's.

Thank you for not giving up on us.

Jandria - standing with Astarri. Her dialog is:

Elune has not forgotten us. You, saving us, is proof of that.

I wonder if there is still a part for us to play, a duty to fulfill.

We must be patient.

Denelan - He goes downstairs and begins to tend the plants behind Sesselie. His dialog is:

Have you ever seen such a glorious forest? The trees!

Thank you for getting me out of that awful place, so that I could see it with my own eyes.

Ysera then gives you a follow up quest that is missing from Wowhead, called "From a Dark Place". You are to return to the Tremaculum and find three more lost souls from Teldrassil.

When you return with them, they bow to Shandris, who returns their respect, and then move off to different spots in Heart of the Forest, as noted here:

Anaris Windwood - she takes up a guard-like post near Ysera and Shandris. Her dialog is:

The war exacted a terrible toll on our people. More so than anyone else.

It cannot go unanswered.

I hope that you will stand with us when we finally have our vengeance.

Ilthalaine - He stands just inside the door leading out to the training area. His dialog:

For so long I helped guide young, ambitious elves to find their path.

Now I am at the beginning of my own adventure. I wonder, is this how they felt, stepping into a new grove for the first time?

Ferryn - goes to stand in Lady Muunn's area. He somewhat frequently shapeshifts between his elven form, a bear, and a panther. His dialog is:

Thank you for bringing me back.

If you're planning to return to the Maw, could you keep an eye out for someone?

Her name is Delaryn.

I presume that the Delaryn he refers to is Captain Delaryn Summermoon, who Sylvanas killed in the Burning of Teldrassil cinematic.

Got both quests popping up today and got like 25g reward? No souls, no rep, nada. What were those for?

If you do this quest in a group and click the same soul it will count as 2 of the 3.

However, there's three named souls you must rescue. You have to rescue each of these 3.

In a group we had this issue. We returned to Ysera and even though the quest was marked complete in our quest logs, we couldn't turn in.

We did NOT drop and re-accept the quest. Instead we went back to the Maw and rescued the last soul (yellow dot on the mini map). We immediately got the 'objective complete' text. Then we were able to turn in to Ysera.

This is complete speculation but I got the first quest, completed it, and no follow up quest. Since people seem to get it at different times maybe its connected to the mission table campaign quests and how far you have gotten. If anyone can test this out please let us know!

If you are looking for the souls, they are not like the regular weekly ones. These are named souls and not "lost ones", and they will appear on your minimap as yellow circle quest item markers. I found my 3 on the main level.

Not sure what triggered this quest, but if you do this in a group don't be tempted by the quest log counting each of you collecting a soul counting for everyone. Did this with a friend today, we got 3/3 by doing two of the souls and then weren't able to turn it in. Had to go back to the Maw to get the last soul and only then were we able to turn the quest in.

For anyone wondering why these names are familiar:
Jandria and Astarii Starseeker were both priest trainers in Darnassus in the Temple of Elune.
Denalan was a quest giver outside Dolanaar, sending many a lowbie off to their deaths against Oakenscowl back in the day.

There are 3 specific souls in the Tremaculum you must to speak to: Jandria, Denelen and Astarii. They are marked on your map with yellow dots.

START at steps 28, 21 (to reach these steps from Ve’nari cross the bridge at 36, 28)
FIND SOUL at Coordinates:
/way 28.6 18
/way 27.4 13
/way 31.4 14.2

START at 28 / 21: Run up the steps, turn right, and down the steps. Stop. Hug the wall to your right and your soul will be hiding around the corner. Easy. (At the bottom of the steps you may accidentally step on a portal to the top. You don't need to be there so go back down after you rest/eat.)

The next two each require killing a fairly large mob to reach the soul. My squishy 60 mage with ilvl 157 was able to solo them, so don't let them scare you away.
The quest would have been much easier with two people. The average trash has 20k health but if you take one at a time you'll be fine.

After dropping this quest to make room for another then finding I could no longer pick this quest up again, I reached out to Blizz support. This was the response I received:

I'd like to apologize for the wait time getting to your ticket. Regrettably, this quest is only available during a specific calling. If the calling is completed, or expired, Lost of Teldrassil will not be available.

So it appears that AmadisAnguiano's comment here is correct and this quest can only be picked up while a certain calling is available and must be picked up prior to completing the calling.

This quest is NOT worth the hassle of travelling all the way to the Maw, and spending 15 minutes there for killing mobs and rescuing the souls. The quest reward is lousy 25 Gold and 74 Silver. No rep, no other quests, nothing more than the few coins of gold. Time is better spent elsewhere, doing something more rewarding.

The only ones who might be interested in this quests are
* Completionists
* Lore nerds
* People emotionally attached to the victims that died when Teldrassil burned.

There is literally no other reason for spending time doing this quest.

This quest is triggered when you accept the calling quest Anima Salvage. It must be completed before the calling quest is handed in or expires. There's a follow up From a Dark Place.

Each quest rewards 25g74s. Completing both quests unlocks a repeatable quest No Wisp Left Behind which rewards 25g74s like the others. On the second completion of No Wisp Left Behind, Ysera offered no further quest. Not sure what the point of all this is, but it's possible it unlocks a future quest line or access to some other reward.

1ST UPDATE: No Wisp Left Behind isn't a sure thing. My druid did it twice before Ysera stopped offering it, but my hunter wasn't able to get it at all, even though I followed all the same steps on the same day on both characters, who are both at Renown level 24. It's probably because my druid is further along in the Torghast campaign (Signs of the Lion).

2ND UPDATE: Just acceptedAnima Salvage and No Wisp Left Behind popped up for my hunter but not my druid. It seems these three quests can proc in any order, or not at all. Still no obvious purpose except that they count toward Soulkeeper's Burden.

No rep gain, no quest chain, and 25g reward seems like a solid “skip” for this quest (especially at lvl 60) since it does not appear to be tied to anything else.

So I got the quest from Ysera, did it and came back to turn it in but couldn't find her or turn it in. As someone here mentioned, she's south of the Heart, standing with Lord Herne. Once I did Ulfar's Guidance, she was back in her usual spot and I was finally able to turn in The Lost of Teldrassil.

So wait a minute, nobody mention anything about this quest being the same for both A and H?
Horde burned Teldrassil, burned alive who knows how many. Now in SL we go to rescue them and it's like all good, no biggy about how they ended up there?

Sounds like typical domestic violence recipe: I'll break your arm or ribs, and then take you to the hospital, like a caring person I am, not the one who got you in that position in the first place of course!

The Venthyr/Night Fae covenant assault takes place in the Tremaculum, so it's an excellent time to do this quest (alongside the weekly souls quest).

I'm sure glad I came to Wowhead for notes on this quest, given how many folk found it bugged to retake if they dropped, I was careful to deal with the task only when I had focus and a friend so I couldn't screw it up.

For me this quest was given shortly after the second (I think?) time Bwonsamdi came to the sanctum looking for an assist. He needed a bit of help in Nazmir against Mueh'zala and I have concurrent quest from him about rescuing the wild soul Ashamane and then some Loa (in a completely opposite direction, of course, but I'm very fond of Ashamane, so I forgive him easily).

Shandris is in my Sanctum because we're trying to work out how to rescue the Night Warrior, so I have assumed this is part of the Night Warrior thread - but it is possible that it's a subset of the rescue-souls work Bwonsamdi has going. GIVEN THAT THE RESCUEES HAVE AN INTERACTION WITH SHANDRIS it is my deepest suspicion that if Shandris isn't there you'll have no ability to progress, even though the quest giver is Ysera.

I wasn't very high in Renown when I started this, and I'm barely 30 renown now (just dinged today on this character).

This quest does have synergy with Return Lost Souls Return Lost Souls (the weekly quest to save souls from The Maw); as both quests are moved forward by finding one of the Lost Souls from Teldrassil.
