To complete this quest you need loot 10x Darkened Scourgestone or 5x Pitch Black Scourgestone from mobs.

Good location for Darkened Scourgestone is around /way 78,2, 66,5 drop from Vile Sludgefiend.

Once you complete Strange Scourgestones you will be offered two (repeatable) turn-in quests. One for 25x Darkened Scourgestone, and another for 25x Pitch Black Scourgestone.

Turning either of these in gives you 3x Argent Commendation, which can be used for the pet, transmogs, or a broom to clean up infection.

You have to fill the completion % bar before you can turn in the quest, regardless of how many scourgestones you have earned. As of right now it fills 10% when i loot Darkened Scourgestone and 20% when I loot Pitch Black Scourgestone, regardless of how many you loot each time. Scourgestones earned before taking the quest will not count toward completion.

No retroactive credit. It doesn't count any scourgestones you've previously looted and have on you prior to picking up the quest, only scourgestones you loot while on it.

I farmed these from the Dark Worshipers, Cult Researchers, and Death Cultists near the Aldur'thar Gate at 54, 33.

Try and loot only one mob at a time whenever possible. If you loot multiple corpses at once you'll only get credit once, even if multiple mobs dropped scourgestones.

Quest gets bugged where when I pick up any stones it doesn't do anything and I have no bar.

You'll have to complete this quest daily if you want to turn in your Scourgestones.

Easiest (or rather, most lucrative) way I found to complete this is to kill 5 rares. 20% each rare, plus that nets you a boatload of stones to turn in when you're done.

Killing rares give you a good deal of stones, but they take a while to spawn. I would recommend the AddOn: Rarescanner, the spawn timer will appear in their respective spawn points.

To turn in more of the stones after completing this Strange Scourgestones quest, try this:

/script C_GossipInfo.SelectAvailableQuest(2)
/script CompleteQuest()
/script GetQuestReward()

Talk to the NPC and then click your macro 3x for each pack of 25 stones.

Change the number in line 1 to the reagent you want to spend:
1: Darkened Scourgestone
2: Pitch Black Scourgestone

I've had by far the best luck farming both Darkened Scourgestone and Pitch Black Scourgestone around 64, 21 (Deathspeaker's Watch). If farming these badges for the repeatable quest is what you are after, this definitely seems like the spot to do it.

Update: This is not longer the fastest method. With the recent change, making rares spawn every 10 minutes, it will be much easier to just camp out the rares

Stones Not Counting as Credit Toward Quest?

This following "fix' worked for me:

Open your in-game quest log (click on the "L" key ) and try tracking/untracking a time or few by clicking the tracking button.

This made the quest complete for me as I already had the required number of stones collected.

You may possibly need more depending on how many stones you have.

I think I do not like this quest very much. Sitting at 90% while in a rare-hunting group, having that bar mock me....

This can be hugely frustrating & long winded as the drop rate isn't the best. Try killing mobs at locations where you have other Q's to complete. Some areas appear to yield better results than others, & I've found (maybe just bad luck) that certain mob types don't drop these at all. Don't go thinking that the tougher the enemy, the better chance of drop is. This Q doesn't seem to work that way.

They removed the npc's to hand the stones in to a bit prematurely, some people didn't get their last gear piece.

Strange Scourgestones

Collect Darkened Scourgestones and Pitch Black Scourgestones from undead forces in Icecrown.

	Collect Darkened or Pitch Black Scourgestones (1)
	Kill Credit (DNT) slain (10)
	Kill Credit (DNT) slain (5)

Description

The Lich King's minions once carried scourgestones given to them by their dark master. New ones have been found on the corpses of the undead. We do not know their purpose... but they have been touched by even more sinister magic. As you slay the Scourge across Icecrown, keep your eyes open for such stones. If you bring them back to me, I shall turn them over to the confessors for study.
