This is probably one of the worst drop quests I've ever done. The areas it has you hunting are filled with all sorts of critters, including juvenile versions of the Runestags, and nothing—not even the juvenile's—but the Runestags themselves drop the Feral Anima you need.

The drop rate is absolutely abysmal. I killed something like 70 of them to get all 12 drops. That's something like, one drop, every 6 kills.

Your reward for doing this quest, alongside the other quest it's paired with, is something like:

300-odd gold
6 Grateful Offering
1500 Reputation(750 apiece) with the Court of Night

Compared to the 1000 rep you get from doing the Tirna Vaal channel—or the 500 you get from the other two—it's at least worth it for the rep grind.

This is so bad. I had killed 20 of those and I've got 5 animas. What in the hell is this. If I want classic drop rates I'd play classic.

I've found that the WILDBOUGH Runestags seem to have a better drop rate than others here have been commenting. Instead of close to 1 in 6 its about 1 every 2 or 3 and the stags and juveniles drop them. These can be found roughly around 42, 41. They seem to be around this area, between dreamsong the theater and glitterfall. Worth looking into.

The Highland Bulls are 100% drop rate. They have been for me. The are red enemies, not yellow like the other runestags.

I killed Runestags looking for Feral Anima, but all I got was zhevra hooves. The spirit of Mankrik's wife told me I was doing it wrong.

I didn't really find the drop rate to be that bad, the annoying part is how scarce the mobs that can drop the quest items are.

As of 10.03.2021, it seems that they've changed this to 10 Feral Anima.

This quest wasn't too bad. I had the best luck with the Highland Bull located in the 57.59 area.

The fairy that accompanies us on the quest gives a DOT called ''Faerie Dust'' and I've notice,
if you kill the mob when it's still on the mob, the quest item drops every time.
Try it out, maybe it's just luck, we never know!

Description

The supply of attuned anima is running low again. I'm surprised that we've managed to stretch our resources so far without a resupply. You've proven yourself proficient at tracking down what is needed, perhaps you could assist us once again? The runestags that roam Ardenweald's forests are particularly suffused with the power of the wilds, anima retrieved from them will be optimal for our needs. Good hunting!
