The area consists mainly of elites in paires; pretty hard. The satchel dropped for me from Oakheart Nightscreamer, she stands in a clearing with two (normal) adds.
Don't forget to pick up the spear for The Broken Spear with the ?-mark over it on the road at the beginning of the area from the flightmaster.

If you complete this quest without also finishing The Broken Spear, you won't be able to progress any further. So if you're stuck, go back and get that quest. It can be picked up in the area near the Oakheart Nightscreamer at

/way #1565 34 55

Looks like any Oakheart Nightscreamer will do. I killed one at different coordinates and still got the drop.

The best way to get this quest done is to go stand at the cliff to the immediate left of the Tirna Scithe instance portal at 35.1, 55.3 and pull the Oakheart Nightscreamer up burst it down loot it and run away from the other elite that you pull with it. Then proceed to your right back to Root-Home take the pathway to the left of the flightmaster and take the pathing under the root at 34.7, 53.9 go to your right after passing under the root wait for the patrol and go snag The Broken Spear and get out without aggroing anything. Congratulations you've completed this quest with the minimal amount of effort!

Easiest way to do this is fly to Root-Home

From the flight master, head West and aim to enter the elite/quest zone right where the little banner from the Shimmermist Runner quest.

As someone else mentioned, there will be 2 non-elites there, once they are dead, turn left and grab one Nightscreamer you can pull away from everyone else nearby.

She'll go down easy even if you're a bit undergeared.

There are a bunch of Oakheart Nightscreamer elites that drop it, not just one (just check the tooltip). Pick the easiest one you can obviously, unfortunately they're in pairs a lot with other elites.

Get the spear related quest The Broken Spear, so ideal to kill near that since you need to get to it anyway

If you were like me and having a problem killing the Elites. There are a couple Elites that are right nearby the entrance to Mists of Tirna Scithe dungeon (they are to the left facing it). You can stay up on top and pull them up, then kite them into the guards in Root-Home. Those guards do hit hard and they will kill them.

The best way to do this is during the 'Terrors in Tirna Scythe' World Quest. Even if you have already done the WQ, you can easily find groups doing it and just tag along for a witch kill.

You can actually pull the elite mobs back to root-home near the flight way-point, where the guards will help you defeat the elites. Much easier than fight them on your own.

Was also able to cheese this by pulling one of the witches and then kiting it near the guards to root home (the flight master area)....

Poorly tuned. I'm going along the story line, no problems. Then I get to this and I'm totally unable to get even close doing it. I wait until I'm 20 iLvLs higher. Still can't do it.

I know there are tricks to get it done, but how is players suppose to know those?

I mean, this expansion is pretty slap-dash and Blizzard seems to be relying on players posting info on wowhead to make the game even playable.

I couldn't defeat 2 elites, so this worked for me. (First go pickup the broken spear)
1) From 35.10 52.52 walk to an opening at 34.63 54.35
2) There you'll see a pat with a with a Oakheart Nightscreamer and a Oakheart Soul-Eater.
3) Pull them and run back to 35.10 52.52 where some guards can help you to kill them and hold agro.
Luckily the Oakheart Nightscreamer will drop the quest item.

As a hunter, I used Freezing Trap to CC one of the elites while I killed the other who actually had the satchel.

Kite the mobs to the elite guardians at the entrance if you're having difficulties soloing

If you stand at /way 33.15 51.82 Jumping Mushroom, (beneath Brightgleam, for any scribes) you can fly into the centre of the zone where there is a single witch and one non-elite mob to the south that is easier to kill. Make sure your hearthstone is on CD! Otherwise, as mentioned by Chinae, the best time to do this is during the elite WQ Terrors in Tirna Scithe - usually when the calling is Foes of Ardenweald.

This quest has to much garbage in the way. guess my time as a mage is over. I'm not interested in trying to find help or doing anything special to get it done, I just want to play without hassle or obstruction.

Easy doing. The area is the big WQ Elite Area at Root-Home but I pulled all the mobs from the entrance to the lake up to guards and had them kill it for me. Then I went down to lake, Picked up The Broken Spear then killed the elite. Easy doing on a 155 fire mage

If you find it's hard to kill the mob by you own, I recommend to pull the duo pack that patrol around (34,55) to the Root's home and get the help from guards

The advice of standing on the cliff above the witch and the one elite mob (32.42 53.41) works well. CC the non-witch elite and then hit the witch. Start backing up the hill close to the NPCs guarding Root Home and when the CC breaks, the other NPC come charging up the cliff. Go back far enough to let the guards hit the guy while you take the witch down. Do not go too far into Root Home or the elites will reset and you'll have to do it again. :(

But yes, this works great.

So, we got our character to level 60 and are now progressing through the Covenant campaign quest line, building gear as we go. And now on this quest we have to defeat level 60 elites?

What genius at Blizzard thought this would be a good idea, something we would enjoy doing with an under-geared character?

When you descend from the flightmaster there's a witch with three non-elites. It's tempting to go for that, but patrols make it impossible at the sort of ilevels you'll probably be doing this. Instead, go right and along the side of the ridge that the first witch is in front of. You'll see a single witch with a single non-elite. Patrols pass, but not within aggro range. If you can CC them one at a time that'd be good because, for me, a 155 subtlety rogue, the witch itself came fairly close.

Witch's Satchel

Alternate Approach:
After multiple failed attempts on the Oakheart Nightscreamer/Oakheart Soul-Eater pair which are STATIONARY at
/way (1565) 34.8, 55.2 Stationary pair

My ilevel 185 Assassination Rogue tried a new approach - he waited (stealthed) at
/way (1565) 34.2, 56.3 Observe

There is a pair of NPCs which make a clockwise patrol of this area.
The idea is to let them pass and then follow, sapping the Oakheart Soul-Eater at
/way (1565) 33.9, 55.7 SAP Soul-Eater

Immediately attack the Oakheart Nightscreamer and kite him back to the observation point.

The idea is to burn down the Nightscreamer as much as possible before the SAP expires on his partner. Remain committed to killing the Oakheart Nightscreamer and once killed use VANISH to terminate the fight with the Soul-Eater.

Loot and scoot!

CAUTION: if you let them continue further around the circle than the SAP location, you risk aggroing other nearby NPCs.

Description

I sent Ara'lon to steal a witch's satchel from the Drust... a dangerous task from which he has yet to return. The Drust's nightscreamers carry many reagents we need to perform the ritual. We cannot proceed without one. You must go to the Oaken Assembly to procure one of their satchels... and find Ara'lon, if you can.
