Quest tip: Don't try to run away to Stormwind like me, quest will get absolutely bugged, throwing you out of the body and spawning ghouls around making it impossible to progress

If you decided to use your shotgun on Magistrate Solomon in a battle to the death in his very own town hall, you will not be able to accept this part of the quest. Nothing lost however, logout and log back in and he'll have respawned.

Also, don't shoot the shotgun near magistrate prior to boarding up windows quest. It can hit him and he gives you a 2 piece until you die and slowly regenerate. i just restarted the quest lol.

I went with my family inside our house to hide from the ghouls. The door was shut behind us, my family disappeared, and ghules came crushing through the batten floor of our home. I tried to fight the ghules off with my shovel but was eventually overwhelmed by their numbers and died in solitude.

Just a word of warning... I began this quest and got all the way until the guy had to check on his family. Then I had to run out, so I left dude man standing there before speaking with his family. When I came back, I was dead, and on resurrecting I was in my normal form. I went into the zone and fought zombies for 15m, then I let them kill me. Upon res, I had zombies attacking, and could not speak to spirit. I eventually got out of the loop, abandoned the quest and came back to it. The quest giver was not there, but the gateways were. When I entered them, I was put into the same loop- in the quest realm/zone but in the wrong form, and without the quest objectives.

so i ran into an interesting bug on this quest and figured I'd share. Don't log out while doing this or any of the other parts of the chain where you are Ben. If you do, when you come back into lakeshire you can still do the quests but as your normal character. Eventually you'll get to this quest where you fight the scourge and you can't progress on it because you're not Ben. I had to abandon it and repick it up and talk to Ben to turn back into him to move forward.

i cant believe how many quests are completely bugged in this expansion.
I couldn't loot the rabbits it kept saying i had to be "standing up to loot" so i logged out when i came back i had to do the quests as my character'
that was fine until the fight with the ghouls where i killed about 500 of them but they never stopped coming. the first time i died i had to go back to my body to ress and then fight again until eventually i died again and still came back as ghost. so i tried relogging again, but then i cannot ress at all as I get the message "you must enter the instance to recover your body", i cannot even ress at graveyard, i tried leaving group and eventually i was back at bastion ( still as a ghost) where I have no body to return to and no way to re enter the instance!

After I was just talking to some friends not 2 days ago how I don't feel like there's really been much emotionally stirring storytelling in a while from WoW, this quest happens. Literally a Howell's Shotgun blast right to my parental feels. This grown-ass man was biting his lip really, really hard during this one.

The quest finishes faster if you don't kill the gouls, because Ben has to die to trigger the completion.

Can you imagine what that would look like to his family? Watching Ben through the window? Running around picking up a bunch of ghouls and spamming /sit?

DO NOT complete the windows boarded up before speaking to Citizens as it can bug out and you can't warn them.

I really think there should be a followup where you tell Ben "Don't worry bro. I will be going back to Lakeshire to kill every single one of these scum." Then you should be able to.

Seems broken, when you speak with a 2 person party, it counts as one but then you get stuck with 4/5 and have to reset. So, only speak with one person and not parties of two.

Talking to the pairs of npcs to warn them can bug and only give credit for one of the npcs in the pair, while ticking off 2 of them as having been talked to. Got stuck at 4/5 with none offering the dialoge option and had to re-aquire the quest.

Holy heck what a hot mess. As others have posted, speak to the citizens first to warn them, then board the windows up (across two buildings, don't run a circle around the one building).

If you've come here because no more citizens are talking to you, abandon the quest. However, if you come back in what seems like a quasi dead form of your normal toon with normal abilities, be sure to speak to Ben again (to say 'We must see your final moments' again... it'll take awhile to channel... hopefully the ghouls don't mess you up in the meantime...) before heading back to the town hall. Unlike poor ol' Ben, who only has his shovel and shotgun at his disposal, you can mess them up no worries with your normal abilities, but it doesn't seem to progress the quest. You need to be fighting the scourge as him, and die as him, once your family has been ushered inside the cabin.

With the greatest love & respect, this quest can be a a shagging mess.

Accidentally discovered that if you have Embalmer's Oil applied to your weapon before you start playing as Ben, your shovel and shotgun attacks heal you! I could have survived for as long as I had the oil on, but didn't fancy 47 minutes of fighting scourge waves 😅

Fun! Im stuck in a death loop. I didnt want to do this questline yet and was totally stuck and couldn't exit the scenario. So I decided to suicide in the lake. While I was dead I decided to drop the group because I didn't have the icon while I was alive. Here's where the fun begins.... The timer starts to kick me out of the group and it sends me back to bastion but I'm dead And nowhere near a spirit healer. So I click return to graveyard and it takes me back to Lakeshire. This time the countdown starts again immediately and my body is too far to try to rez. It shoots me back to bastion. I tried two or three more times and even tried jumping off the edge in bastion and that's where the fun really starts. Now instead of loading in Redwood it says the instance can no longer be found because I guess the server shut down the particular instance number. Now my character screen just jumps between bastion and Redwood loading screen and I get an error message that says that instance cannot be found and it just keeps blinking back and forth between loading the instance that doesn't exist and the death screen in bastion. I've tried everything to get out of it and nothing works because it's loading constantly. Fun! Update: Fix was to shut the game down 10 times. Finally allowed me to get my actual body in lakeshire and not the gravedigger guy.

Still bugged as of 9.2.5.

The fix for me was not to abandon the quest, which didnt work, but to speak to the citizens that I could (there was only 3 of them, the children) and then to leave the instance group and rejoin. Leaving the instance and rejoining through asking ben to see his final moments reset the few people that I could talk to.

So I am stuck on the quest - as others. Most NPC´s are hostile. There are 3 groups of yellow NPC´s - 2x2 and 1x1 - which would sum up to 5 - IF I would get credit by NPC, but I get credit by group. So i am stuck on 3/5 - instead of 5/5.

I have abandoned the quest three times so far and no changes - the quest progress is saved, but outside these three groups - I cannot locate any other NPC´s with a dialogue option.

And I have not figured out how to leave this area - I am doing this quest on a troll druid if this has some downsides.

After a few further tries - the NPC´s respawn. Talking to different NPC´s in the double groups enabled me to get the 5 NPCs needed.

At this moment, I found my way out to warn 5 citizens.
1: DO NOT board up any windows.
2: talk to the only-two-avaliable kids.
3: leave the instance (but don't abandon quest)
4: interact with the portal and NPC then repeat 2 and 3

I hope it works for other horde ascendants, and WOW-devs would fix it soon!

This is still bugged as of 9.2.5, I found some answers/bugs here not fully straight forward or mentioned. Heres is what to do if stuck in any way possible:

1. Don't board up windows, I did and got no dialogue with NPCs. If you encounter this just abandon, you wont waste much time.

2. Talk to the 3 npcs which is possible to and warn them with the chat option.

3. Use this script to leave group and enter teleport again and talk to last 2 npcs. /script C_PartyInfo.LeaveParty()

4. Board up windows.

5. Finally carry on with your day.

Fun fact, you can actually leave the quest area and go exploring. Happened to me after the quest bugged and I ended up visiting Stormwind and taking pictures at the throne room.

Okay guys, I got the fix! There are 3 clickable mobs, mostly children.......THEY RESPAWN. So just simply wait for them to respawn and then do the boards on the windows.

This worked for me (on horde):

Take the quest and talk to 3/5 citizens
Log out
Talk to same childrens and you'll get 5/5

Tried some more and after awhile I notice that the children respawn, so you just have to wait a minute or two.

Kids which you have to warn will respawn after few minutes, there are only 3 and you need 5 so give it a several minutes to respawn. Also finish this warn part before windows bcs it can bug and you can't warn citizens anymore (if this happened to you, abandon quest and repeat).

As of today, I was able to talk to all 5 citizens as long as I didn't board up any windows. Do the windows after you warn citizens.
