To complete this quest use Ani-Matter Orb near the piles of bones on the ground in the area to the south-east of the questgiver.
Can also summon a Zargox the Reborn rare with this quest item

When I did this quest, layering must've broke because there were level 60 mobs everywhere and the quest couldn't be completed as a level 56 Rogue. It probably would've been doable if I only aggro'd one mob at a time, but they were densely packed and it was unavoidable to aggro 3+ mobs at a time. If I didn't have stealth, I would've been doing a lot more corpse runs than I did. I thought I was doing something wrong, but my guild assured me they didn't see those level 60 mobs when they did the quest. I can only assume it broke for me.

had trouble finding the violent animate mobs so i looked around and finally found them in groups of 3-4 instead of wandering one by one, try around

If you for some reason do not get credit anymore for using the quest item on the bones.
Simply relog, it worked fine after that.

This quest is marked as a "Weekly", however it yields no reputation or anything useful. (Only 25g)
I don't see any point in doing this currently, as a level 60.

As soon as I recruited the last Animate, a spot showed up on mini map at /way 28,9, 51,5 for "Bone Mass". Clicking the quest item on this bone pile spawned: Zargox the Reborn

This quest is idiotic (like a lot are this xpac)

There are 4 types of animates Violent Animate, Enraged Animate, Loyal Animate and Recruitable Animate.

Violent will be just standing around and their tooltip says they count towards this quest, but they don't.

Enraged will be RNG when you activate the bones. They'll be hostile and you kill them, but they don't count for the quest.

Loyal will be RNG when you activate the bones. I think they automatically count towards the quest, but I'm not 100% sure. You can't talk to them they just start fighting with you.

Recruitable is another RNG type you get when you activate the bones. You need to talk to them to recruit them for them to count towards the quest. I didn't realize I needed to talk to them before I'd done a Lot.

There is grey piles of Bone Remains piles where you use your Anti-Matter Orb. Sometimes it gives you your quest item, sometime it's just sometimes that give you a silly amount of time to kill. So far my squishy mage has achieve nothing but has died twice. Oh - don't forget to talk to the "green" mobs who appear.

Bone Remains all look the same, but actually have different IDs. The ones with ID 157169 will always spawn Stubborn Animate, which are always friendly/recruitable.

Install an addon that displays item IDs (such as idTip), only use Ani-Matter Orb on Bone Remains with ID 157169, and you'll never have to fight hostile animates.

Good places with several to trigger at once. You may or may not encounter a group of adds to kill but at least this should help make this annoying quest easier.

You may find yourself asking, "Am I doing something wrong? Why am I getting so many enraged/violent ones?" Rest assured that, no, you're not, it's just an evil quest. I must have killed 35 to get the 12 needed and it was all for .. 25g. Whoo! If you must do this quest (really, abandon it after you spawn the rare, it doesn't even give rep & if you're doing it pre-60, the XP is not worth the time spent) don't even bother with the bones unless you find multiple piles next to one another. Just run around the outside of the building & kill the Enraged Animate (the spectral guys); at least that way you're guaranteed a success and it's not as frustrating spawning 10 piles of bones to get 2 recruits.

This quest is truly DREADFUL.

Most of the things attack you again after reanimation. After half an hour I've got 5 out of 15.

The lag in the area is unbelievable. I've been here to WoWhead to see if I'm doing anything wrong, and I'm not. It's just a terrible quest.

I spend so much time looking through WoWhead during Shadowlands as so many quests are bugged or badly explained or unclear.

Make sure you are using the orb (quest item) on the enemies you spawn and defeat. Some of them will revive and be recruitable. This quest was driving me nuts until I realised :)

I did this quest in 3 minutes start to finish. Just find big clumps of the quest mob and spam the orb. They might have relaxed this since some of these other comments, as I was getting credit for between 3-6 mobs per pack. Some mobs auto count, some you need to highlight, some you need to talk to; just spam the orb and interact with stuff.

Description

This area is rich with the remains of fallen soldiers... some of which still carry a spark of potential. I've created what I call the "Ani-Matter Orb," with which you can reanimate the skeletal matter littered throughout the foundry. Let us see how many of the new animates would join our cause. As for those who don't... well, they should be quite accustomed to being slain by now.
