Don't forget to use your Extra Action button! The shield effect is channeled; make sure you don't take direct damage or stop channeling. You'll die to the explosions if you stop channeling your shield.

Weirdly, my fps crashed when the explosives test started. On the fourth attempt I managed to hit the Extra Action Button at the right moment to survive it, but I was really low when the fps were playable again, and my Felguard was dead. Resurrected it, but it took quite a while to gain aggro again. Somehow managed to survive with Healthstone, Mortal Coil and Drain Life...

Was this quest even tested? I go from like 80 fps to 0 when he casts explosive test, and if you don't time your dps properly he can cast explosive test while your shield is still on cd from flamethrower.

My Goblin is only in heirloom gear and this quest mob hits WAY too hard! Took me a couple of goes before I had to send over some Benthic gear to even kill him xD

To my surprise this quest was actually pretty easy when you only use the Extra Button Shield when the Mechanized Lab Assistent yells something, only two moments to watch out for.
1 - Thermal Stress Test in Progress
2 - Explosives Test Initiated
Make sure to push that extra button when you hear/see those warnings. If you just avoid the flamethrower and the bombs for the rest of the fight, you're good to go.
This way i managed it in one try as an arms warrior ilvl 370. (Tbh i first ignored the button most part of the fight and kept dying to Explosive Test Initiated 9 times)

I just returned to the game, am newly dinged 120 hunter and not exactly an expert in bad-ass fighting techniques, but still... hunter, right? Am used to being able to handle most anything! -But this is getting ridiculous, and it stopped being fun quite a few deaths ago. (And so did the repair bills...)

I was otherwise enjoying a little return to Kezan and re-visiting some of the good ol' NPC's and enjoying their usual goblin'ish shenanigans... but then this. Meh. Guess I'll give up and hope for a nerf some time, since as it is, I don't think I stand a chance.

This is ridiculous. I was able to do all other heritage armor quests right after dinging 120 in lvl 200+ gear without any issues. This one is practically impossible.

Way to ruin the fun. Heritage armor quests are supposed to be cosmetic and purely for fun.

I just dinged 120 and after the obligatory Magister's Terrace Tabard grind, found this quest impossible.

I sent a full set of benthic gear (had no black empire) and completed easily on a shaman

So whomever said "turn on your sound".... genius.

First time in 15+ years I've had to use sound, but it made all the difference here. When robot talks, you Click. other than that it's just dodging easily dodged attacks.

I even survived the 60-0 framerate drop on the nuke ability with a quick Click, tho my pet died (Warlock). I recast it but it never regained aggro, but it didn't matter at ~350 ilevel I wasn't taking any damage at all from melee.

Again, TLDR, TURN ON SOUND.

Also just as an aside, this quest is WAYYYY tooooooo looooooong.

If you have a low item level, the boss's melee attacks will hit like a truck. Run away from her when she's not using her missiles or flamethrower. You can run up the stairs on the sides and jump off to get away quickly at normal walking speed.

I was on my BM hunter. Item lvl 341. It took me four tries (the last one I was thinking I'd give up for now but stuck with it). I only used the extra armour button when explosives went off. Other than that I just ran in circles around it and avoided standing on the grates when I could. This worked better for me than using the extra armour for the flamey stuff. I had Hati and a carrion bird for pets. I did have to revive my pet once near the end but I managed. As others said the sound helps.

I can see how it would be really hard on a fresh 120. It wasn't too bad on a 423 elemental shaman. I used bloodlust and an elemental; tried to time the button (not sure that I did that very well); and healed up. I would guess that it would be pretty easy for most classes and specs at around the 440 ilevel.

I want to know if it is possible to complete this quest with a group, because my rouge can't even lay a single hit on that trash mech.

Edit: no longer asking for myself as I have finally beat this mission, I am now asking on behalf of other players so they don't have to struggle through this.

Bit of a pain in the arse this quest.

I've been leveling a Survival Hunter from 0-120, and like most people as soon as I hit 120 I went to get my heritage armor...big mistake. Got slaughtered!

This is what I did and hopefully it helps someone else:

1 - get to Nazjatar do the initial quest to get the "Crucible of Flame" heart essence and when you get back to Nazjatar purchase Benthic Gear...chest, shoulders, head, and whatever else your initial (from NPC) 20 mana pearls will get you (don't use the 20 mana pearls you get from the NPC for the upgrade quest; just buy some new gear). Your going to need the gear because of the mobs after you finally defeat the, "Mechanized Lab Assistant".

2 - My initial problem (minus not being geared) was I wasn't using the "Extra Button" correctly when fighting the Mechanized Lab Assistant. If I had been a little more patient and read way farther down in the comments (I have the comments scrolling newest first) I would have seen a post from Ylsera that made the fight quite easy. DO NOT MOVE after pressing the "Extra action Button"...lol! Clearly you'll need your sound ON and when the NPC yells "Thermal Stress Test in Progress" stop moving and hit the "Extra Button". Same goes for when the NPC yells "Explosives Test Initiated". Once I did that, it was quite simple...just be patient.

3- You'll then have to go to a few places and complete quests. When you get back you'll need to fight your way through to rescue "Hobart Grapplehammer" and kill "Dax Blitzblaster" (your Benthic Gear will definitely come in handy here). As you make your way through, treat the scenario like a dungeon, only pull what you need to, and stay to the left side (less mobs). I pulled the big guys by themselves and once they were killed moved on to pulling one or two mobs at a time till I got to Dax Blitzblaster.

4- The Goblin Heritage Armor quest fun is not over yet though folks! LOL! Now you get to kill "Trade Prince Gallywix". Make your way to him through the mobs (using same technique as previously described). Once you get to the trade Prince use the "Extra action Button" when he casts flame thrower (remember to not move). I basically kept my mouse over the extra action button and clicked it as soon as he began casting flame thrower, as it's a fast cast. If you mess up here the saving grace is that whatever damage you did to him prior to dying will remain. Oh, also kite him to the mines on the ground as they will cause him damage.

That's it...enjoy your new Heritage Armor!

P.S. If you haven't completed the Nazjatar quest line on a different character in order to immediately get access to it once you hit 120 then you're going to have to do the full Nazjatar quest line in order to get the Benthic Gear. Either that or you've saved up a ton of gold and can purchase some high end armor and weapon stuff from the auction house.

As a new 120 Mage this was seriously difficult until I found a rythm to it.

At 120 I did as recommened and got some Benthic gear as well as my cloak.

The key to the fight is RUN!

As soon as the fight began I ran circuits around the room, up the stairs, across the top and down again, whilst running a fired off instant cast spells and DOT's.

When it casts flamethrower, move, this part is really easy, when it speaks use the button for the sheild, outside of this run and damage on the move. Rinse and repeat.

Just did this on a fresh 120 Shadow Priest. Mainly in heirloom and dungeon gear, with Heart of azeroth and the 2 free azerite pieces (head and shoulders). No Benthics required.
Was using the mythic+ shadow priest talent build posted on method's website. But additionally, had my war mode on.

Guessing the skills on war mode played a part as i failed a lot until i decided to turn it on. Most likely due to Psyfiend and Void Origins.
Psyfiend does 1% hp damage per hit and Void Origins makes Void Eruption instant cast which helps to damage him on the move.

My tactic,
TURN SOUNDS ON

1) Keep dots on him.
2) Cast Psyfiend and Shadowfiend on cooldown
3) Keep shield on yourself.
4) Keep moving and cast Void Eruption(when you have enough insanity) or Void Bolt if you are already in Voidform.
5) Lure him up the stairs and jump down whenever he catches up to buy time.
6) Dodge missiles and flamethrower.
7) Use the time he casts flamethrower or missiles, to heal or cast spells that have a cast time(Eg. Dark Void, Shadow Word: Void).
8) Use the armor button to shield yourself when you hear the announcement. (Remember not to move when you use armor or you will cancel it).
9) Rinse and repeat

Takes a while, but can be done.

Okay, So I'm a i level 407 hunter. I have a blue gun, and full of Mythic, benthic and LFR gear. I thought i had the mechanics down pat. After 1 hour approximately, of cussing the game out and yelling every dirty word in the book, at that 120 elite. I did AVOID the fire, I used the extra shield button that is located in your bags. My sons both of them decided to take over, one has played as long as we have. My other son who has just started playing this year, and is pugging mythic level 7's by, himself.

He Was able to go into the game help MOM out, and finish the quest. He said I did NOT equip the armor that I was supposed to used. I was about to cry! Lol anyways, please make sure when using the shield button use it when it tells you testing sheidl enabled or something to that effect. Make sure to use the armor they gave you at the beginning of the quest. And you CANNOT dump the quest, and start it over. Good luck y'all! It's a sad day in wow, when you have to get your kids to help! Lol And he doesn't even run a hunter, now he wants to make one!

I'm not entirely sure, but things may have been adjusted. Today I decided to give it another try, and spent a little time upgrading my rogue from 400 > 420 ilvl. The difference was like night and day. Close to release his melee attacks would HURT, so I'd do the 'run around and hurt him with dots while using my self healing on CD' and almost but not quite beat him, but now I could facetank him no problem without having to use self healing once. I don't feel like 20 ilvl would make that much of a difference.

So yeah, give it another try if it's been a while.

After countless attempts, I've managed to beat the guy on my Mage after respecing from fire to frost and thanks to a hefty Benthic donation from my sugar daddy (wep, rings, trinkets and neck still <300ilvl). Soak the flamethrower and bombs in P3 with your extra button and blink + rocket jump as often as you can. I also took Mirror Image which was the real MVP and kept the water elemental (did not take Lonely Winter) for extra aggro distribution.

nope, even at ilevel 406, my elemental shaman barely got him past 75 percent before i died. i just couldn't keep up with him. no goblin armor for me.

Apparently to just dinged rogue with some legion gear leftovers from 3 years ago it's not really possible (ilvl 282).
Problem is not with those abilities for the extra button thing -- I kept dying from actual melee attacks from the robot (using crimson vial on cd, still he hits much harder than you can heal).
Too bad i will have to go back to this stuff later, wasn't really planning to do much on this alt yet. Imo this boss is tuned weirdly (i hadn't had a problem of killing some mobs in zuldazar or even this island - wasn't really fast, but not even close to losing that much HP).

UPDATE
spent like extra hour or smth, went and opened Nazjatar got some initial quests there and exchanged coins for gear as well as like 2-3 pieces from world quests and the fight became very easy with 359 ilvl.

Level 120 Shadow Priest, Ilvl: 395

It takes a little time but this can be completed pretty easily.

Be sure to have sound on.
Use the extra button to apply the X-52 Shields when the Mechanized Lab Assistant announces a "test" (don't move while casting).
Keep your Power Word: Shield up
Keep moving to stay out of the fire and flamethrower.
Keep your DOTs applied. When it stops moving to use flamethrower reapply them.
Repeat until it's dead.

Keeping Power Word: Shield up and using the special shields at the right time I never went below 95%. The DOTs slowly did their thing and ate him away. Took maybe 5 - 8 minutes total.

Just found this quest after not playing my shaman. Frankly, yes it is WAY horrible. Plain and simple, goblins got the hose bag on this armor set. Easy, #@% no! Rediculous, yes! I almost had him using the stairs. I will not complete this unless it is nerfed big time. LAME, Blizz! LAME!

Did this on hunter. I had success when I used the extra action button during the "explosives test" and immediately revived pet, then used aspect of the turtle to reposition and get him down. I'm amazed at how easily it went down when avoided the special attacks properly. Keep trying you'll get it!

I don't know when I last hated a quest as much as I hate this one. I had him down 2/3, my screen got caught behind a pillar or something and next thing I knew, dead for the 4th (and final time because bleep this bleep).

What a vile and disgusting quest. Absurdly, comically unbalanced. All I earned as a level 57 shaman was a major repair bill. I thought I was wining at one point, but nope, before I could even deploy the shield I was instakilled by an "explosives test" that had no intro animation. Gross.

Done on a freshly dinged level 50, 50 ilvl with some heirloom pieces. My tip would be to use shield during when it yells thermal stress test and explosives test, but also stay as close as possible even as ranged, dodging flamethrower is the key and if you're standing close it is easy to just run behind it when it is about to cast. Hope this helps and just writing that it is possible on a low level with no gear. :)

Quest available at level 50... Died a lot at level 50.

If this is a quest for level cap - adjust when it becomes available and don't put it in my adventure guide as soon as I become exalted with Bilgewater Cartel.

Just completed this on my Arms Warrior. I died 5 times before finally figuring out how to beat this monstrosity.

Don't stand there are take it. Just keep running and don't pay attention to its health. Just focus on evading and don't stop attacking. Pop your cooldowns and throw everything you have at it. Run out of bomb radius and run behind it during flamethrower. When it announces a test only then do you stop moving so you can use the armor. It will take a while and it is a very tedious fight, but as long as you play like a coward and RUN, you might just make it!

I finished this quest with class trial mage, created mirror images at the start of the fight and it didn't attack me for the whole fight.

This got easy once I realized a few things: the thermal test comes of the grate - just move off of them before they start. You can dodge the flame thrower by walking behind him. And most importantly, the shield is a channeled spell - be still when you use it. Died hard twice before I realized all of that. Won the third round with 80% health left. Rogue with all the heirlooms at level 60.

I give up on my rogue. Pity. Next couple of expansions I'll come back maybe.

My rogue has lousy gear. It's been an alt since Cata. That means levelling by way of seasonal events, exploration etc.

One mistake from me and I lose 90% of my health. In other words I get two-shot every darn time.

Not fun. I only play if a game is... fun.

A word of warning for any others who may have accidentally skipped part of the dialog when accepting this quest: If you missed it, you missed it. This quest cannot be abandoned. Additionally, do NOT do what I did and delete the X-52 Personnel Armor from your inventory in an attempt to abandon the quest (the popup said it would abandon it, but it didn't). If you delete the armor, YOU CANNOT GET IT BACK, and you will need to get creative about how you will survive the X-Plosives Test ability. GMs cannot restore the armor or abandon the quest for you, so don't be like me and get yourself stuck in this situation because you wanted to hear a story.

On a lvl 50, Ilvl 127 fire mage. I read all the comments, but, apparently I'm not agile enough to follow the previous suggestions. So....How did I finally do it?

Kite the boss.

Yes. I stayed on the move, casting when I could. It took a while, but finally survived to finish the fight. And I suck at kiting.
