This quest is ridiculous...I get 4 yellows to line up but then clearing another color clears them out! grrr....if I wanted to play candy crush I would!

Good luck lining them up. Oh, and the trolls figured out if they drag mobs on top of you it kicks you out so even if you do come close to getting it, someone will just troll you.

What an incredibly annoying and even more time-consuming quest.
In order to get 5 of a color lined up you need to have a setting like

a-b-y-c-d
y-y-x-y-y

... and now you switch x-y to let the upper y drop into place. Good luck with setting that up!

EDIT: To exit the "quest", right-click the buff Arcane Runelock. It's along with your other buffs. Purplish ... you'll find it! :)

EDIT 2 (a few weeks later): Just for the record: the quest has been fixed and the above mentioned scenario is history. Never mind anymore about my comment (even though it might have contributed to some very small extent to the necessary change in the quest's design!)

If you try to hearthstone out from the quest, your character will appear on map where your heartstone is located but the quest will still be active on screen. Unable to move. Teleporting to graveyard seems to be the only thing that works.

This WQ is very frustrating... I know Activision/Blizzard owns Candy Crush and i'll admit i played it for awhile but it's not very enjoyable to have to do it as a WQ. *FAIR WARNING!* I don't know if this is a bug for now but i have war mode on and people kept using aoe effects next to the item and it kept pulling me out of it and i would have to restart. A few of those times i was about to move the last one and 3+ horde would roll in and steamroll me. You could say i was getting a little frustrated last night...

I'm not a fan of "a turtle made it to the water" quest either but at least once you've started you can't get dragged out.

*EDIT: I saw a blue post for 06/27/19 that said aoe can no longer interrupt the quest.

Frankly, a waste of time unless you get really lucky. I don't bother with this one. if only it was changed to having to line up 4, then it'd be doable.

This is not fun at all. Not only that, I just had to LOG OUT to get out of the "game".
There's a reason I play WoW and not Candy Crush.

Played this for about 20 minutes and managed to get RNG lucky. Just have to keep matching, eventually the algorithm will hopefully give it to you. Mine ended up showing up on the bottom and I was trying to drop one into it to match it, ended up getting one midway down from a chain reaction. It's doable, if frustrating as all hell. They need to make this a x4, not a x5.

Best way to do this is to start the quest, look at the pattern and if you can't get it in a few moves then cancel the quest by right-clicking the buff next to your map. This will drop you out of the matching mode and you can try again. You get a random arrangement of gems each time. Took me about 30 minutes to complete it this way. Also, the only arrangement that works is 5 in a row. 5 in a column does not count.

This was a very irritating and not-fun activity. I am somewhat surprised at the poor quality. Blizzard should remove the quest and apologize.

How do I exit this game! Getting five in a row is impossible. I don't have all day. I want to leave now. There is no exit button. I tried logging out and came back and I was still in the mini game. I also tried using the flight master whistle and hearthstone. I can't exit at all! WTF Blizz? I just used the "character stuck" option in the help menu and that didn't even work. The option to release to a nearby graveyard doesn't let you leave. It just says cannot do that while moving. I am literally frozen in place and have zero options. Waiting on a Gm response to get me out of this mess.

Blizzard needs to get a freaking grip... 5 in a row?

Not to mention, the green & yellow runes are basically identical to me, i can't tell which is yellow or green, having the most common type of colorblindness. Every graphic design firm that makes national-level ads, or video games, all design around this, to avoid losing the 20% of european-descended males with color deficiency... then Blizz does what only high school graphic design classes do, and messes this up, makes a game you just can't do without normal color vision.

The complexity of this even not considering that is just insane though... and that other stupid jumble game is the same (it seemed about right in beta, then they ramped up the complexity, don't ask me why).

Frustrated me to the point I am turning off the game for tonight. Playing a game should be fun, this is clearly not something anything but a tiny, almost non-existent minority would enjoy. A totally monged-out smoothbrain design choice at Blizz, they need to literally fire whoever added this for fundamentally not understanding the difference between enjoyment and frustration.

So what I’ve been able to figure out is:

1. You can only swap two adjacent runes if it results in a set of 3 or more, in either a row or a column. To swap runes, click on one then click on another next to the first one - you can't drag them.

2. The set of 3+ will be eliminated, and runes above will fall down to fill the gaps - often this will result in more runes being matched and eliminated, including ones you wanted to keep in many cases.

3. As others have mentioned, you can exit the game by right-clicking the “Arcane Runelock” buff.

4. This quest absolutely sucks and has no place in WoW.

I managed to finish it, and got 75 rep and about 175 gold. Not worth the frustration.

I’ve been playing since Wrath, and I’m increasingly getting the feeling this xpac will be my last.

By far the stupidest, most irresponsible addition to WoW ever.

Today is "20 Orange runes destroyed" day. Oh, you only have to destroy 20 orange runes, you say? No, no, no. Silly pleb, you have to destroy four orange runes in-a-row 20 times.

Tell Blizzard in the forum that this crap is idiotic to have in the game, doesn't let you actually PLAY the game, time-gates flying behind !@#$ world quests, isn't what you want to be doing for five months when you do world quests, and interferes with your enjoyment of alts.

So, for those of us who have not played Candy Crush, here is how you gain points:

* Connect a line of 4 orange (N) runes for +1 rune destroyed
* Connect a line of 5 orange (N) runes for "+2 runes destroyed

Quest was glitched for me today though I completed the 5 in a row without incident yesterday. Today was 20 orange and no matter how many I did, or what color, I never got credit for a single one.

For my fellow color blind players:

H rune is yellow
N rune is orange
K rune is purple
Diamond on pedestal(?) is green
and am guessing the Little Dot (jellyfish?) is red
and am guessing the 5 crossed lines is white

please leave corrections or better names for rune below and I will update

A: the quest give you a buff. right-click the buff to exit the puzzle.

These are part of the achievement "Puzzle Performer"

To unlock these World Quests you have to first find a Silver Knife
which can be found in any of the arcane chests in Nazjatar

This puzzle game is optional, so if you don't like it, don't play it.
I personally like these quests. It gives me a break from killing.

The mechanics work like this:

The game consists of a 8 x 8 grid which is composed of 6 different colored runes.

1] Click on any rune.

2] Click on any adjacent rune and those two runes will swap positions.

3] If, by swapping those two runes, you cause 3 runes in a row to all be of the same color, then those three runes will be destroyed.

4] If, by swapping those two runes, you do not cause 3 runes in a row to all be of the same color, then those two runes will swap back to the positions they were in and nothing happens.

5] An adjacent rune is considered to be to the left, right, up, or down.

6] A row can be left to right or up and down.

7] When runes are destroyed, each rune (and all the runes in that column above that rune) will fall downward.

8] If you cause more than 3 runes to be in the same row or column, then all of the runes of that color will be destroyed. So, for example, if you cause 4 runes to be the same color, all 4 of those runes will be destroyed.

9] If you get stuck, you can exit the game and restart it.
I personally have never gotten stuck, but one time for me the quest completed before I reached the goal. Apparently, that time, randomness left the puzzle unsolvable.

10] To exit the game, click on the Arcane buff in the upper right of your screen.

The object of the game is to destroy a fixed number of runes of one particular color, but you can destroy as many runes of any color to keep changing the pattern of the grid.

if you are looking for info how to get runelocked chest WQs, this is what you need : go to small lake in NW part of the Coral Grove (57,39), there is a underwater cave called Maein's Challenge.You will find small arcane chest containing Silver Knife there and this is start of short quest chain leading to WQ unlock.Works for both factions.

If stuck and can't solve further..
Quit the game by right-clicking on the Arcane Runelock buff next to the map. Then restart. Not only will it give you a new puzzle, any progress you made in the previous puzzle will not be lost.

You need to get three+ in a row, either up/down or sideways Those are eliminated
and new ones fall in to replace them. Do not obsess that whatever color you need
for the solve and keep making matches. Eventually what you need will happen.

This is nothing but a more time-consuming version of the Tortollan memory puzzle from Zandalar/Kul Tiras. The time invested for 75 rep and 175 gold just isn't worth it. It's more efficient to just skip them altogether and do other quests instead.

Has anyone worked out - reliably - what the threshold (how many to destroy) for Easy > Medium > Hard is...? When it was 3, 4 & 5 it was easier to know, even if you were limited with how may tries you had...

If your having problems getting them unlocked here is some tips:
1) Make sure you have completed the chain of quests

2) AFTER you finish treasure tale, you probably should just exit wow and restart it. Seems the start of the WQ is bugged so that you wont find the proper starting runelocked WQ to complete until you relog.

3) After relogging look for the WQ bottom right corner, complete it and bobs your uncle

If you get stuck or don't have any more moves (or are wondering why your pet is loosing health), click on the Arcane buff next to your minimap to exit the puzzle.
You can re-enter and CONTINUE with a fresh puzzle. Your destroyed runes from the previous puzzle are held over from one puzzle to the next (probably until that WQ expires).

This puzzle is like Candy Crush where you make 3 or more in a row or column by swapping a piece horizontallly or vertically with the one next to it.
You can only do a swap if it forms 3 or more in a row or column.
