Do yourself a favor and look up to check what's falling towards you, if it's not one of the Engineers simply walk away so you can avoid the combat with a tons of mobs.

Might want to leave this one for last if you only play during prime time, people with flyers will steal them from you nonstop and you can't do a damn thing about it, took me 30 min to complete this garbage quest.

Be aware that even if you're in the very middle of the green landing zone -- signified by your character holding out a little cushion for the Engineer to land on -- other players can stand on top of you, and whether it's through server desync or crappy quest design, they can "steal" the quest progress. Best to do this at a time when nobody else is around.

Easiest way is with Anti-Gravity Pack. You can shoot Clobberbottom's Boomer while flying, then look down at the landing arrow and simply fly to the spot to catch the Mechagnome.

Choose a target from above near you, shoot with Clobberbottom's Boomer and then look down the ground; a green circle will spawn and you will get a short speedboost so you can grab the gnome from the air before they splat to their deaths.
You also can sometimes end up catching some enemies which you ofc need to kill.

Oddly enough, while Penny is hostile to Alliance players (seeing as she's Horde, duh) she'll still give Alliance players this quest.

Course, she IS a goblin...

It would be good if Blizz could turn the /yells off for this quest. It's a fairly constant flow of spam and for those of us watching chat for rares who do a zone wide /yell it just muddies the water. Also, I like to scroll chat back to see when rares were last called to give an indication of a timer, with all this /yelling those announcements get scrolled up pretty quickly.

To make this Quest easier, get an Addon that shows you the NPC ID in the Tooltip of the NPC you Mouseover such as idTip.

NPC ID 153337: THIS WILL BE A GNOME!
Any other NPC ID: NOT A GNOME, LEAVE THEM!

If you can't find one and think all boxes are up, try to shoot some down or wait for others to get the bad boxes.

Totally skippable quest and not worth your time. The 150 reputation you can easily gather elsewhere.

Blizzard has absolutely mastered the art of making the most annoying World Quests in the Patch 8.2.

Did this quest once for the meta achievement, never again.

About the only way to complete this quest is to let some other player stand on ground shooting boxes while you fly under the falling engineers.

Just a terribly designed quest full of annoyance.

Discovered something today. You might rarely release an Abducted Vaultbot. You can't fight it (it's a Friendly mob) but if if you catch it, you can click on it and get something useful. I got 3x BAWLD-371.

Note, this is a very rare occurrence. I only got it once after done the quest twice.

I found it easier to pick one crate as far away from the center of the zone as I could (mine was northward, next to where Earthbreaker Gulroc spawns), and just camp it. They respawn fairly quickly -- I think the longest I had to wait was about thirty seconds. Just have a /tar mech macro handy for when you see the yellow dot appear on your minimap (you could also add a /use command to the macro for the rocket as well).

I think other people might have gotten the same idea; had a couple waiting on the sidelines for me to finish and move on. Always nice when people are polite and patient!

I absolutely refuse to do this daily whenever it comes up now. Too many people that steal from you, and the worst part is people think it's a perfectly fine thing to do! Those with flying do it with ease, and those without will stack up on your circle and jump around. First to touch the gnome gets the credit, so they just run around and pick off of others. Shame on those that steal credit, and shame on Blizzard for not making this a tapped target kinda quest.

For Abduction Reduction you use Clobberbottom's Boomer to shoot Mechagon Containment Crate down. The various NPC fall down after that, it depends on Crate npcID.

Mechagon Containment Crate(153337) drops Abducted Rustbolt Engineer, you need them for quest.
Mechagon Containment Crate(153387) is a quest dummy, Penny Clobberbottom shoots it herself after you accept quest.
Mechagon Containment Crate(153464) drops Abducted Scraphound, hostile mob.
Mechagon Containment Crate(153471) drops Abducted Motospider and Abducted Motospider, hostile mobs.
Mechagon Containment Crate(153474) drops Stolen Scrap Grenades, gives Scrap Grenade.
Mechagon Containment Crate(153478) drops Abducted Scrapbot, hostile mob.
Mechagon Containment Crate(153481) drops Abducted Vaultbot.

One of my least favorite quests. Look for the green target circle somewhere nearby. Stand in it and maybe you'll catch a goblin, maybe you'll catch a hostile unit, maybe someone else on the quest will steal your drop.

My issue wasn't with people stealing, it was that I shot 10 of these down and didn't get a single thing that wasn't trying to kill me.

I'm gonna do this 60 times to rescue 6 gnomes for a trivial amount of reputation? No thank you.

Probably one of the worst quests ever, at least in recent memory.

Use an anti gravity pack as then you can shoot boxes whilst flying and then look down and see the target area. Using this it took me 5 minutes instead of the usual 30!

The best way I've found to do this is to go to Rustbolt town, and wait for one of the crates to abduct a gnome. when it flies away, shoot it down. It will then drop the gnome it just abducted.

Garbage quest. So for less than 50% of crates contain gnomes that I can catch. Most hold hostile creatures.

I understand how frustrating this quest is, but I don't understand why there are so many a-hats out there who try and steal your catch? Seriously, this quest seems to bring out the worst in the community.

Don't try to catch a gnome shape-shifted - I tried as a shaman in ghost wolf form (to get to the landing area quicker), and the gnome just falls and dies.

The good news is that there's a full second or two after a mechagnome hits the ground before it's considered "missed".

Twice today I was racing to catch a gnome and it hit the ground in front of me, but when I got to the arrow it registered as caught.

Just stay in Rustbolt, watch when one of these pick up a gnome and then shoot it down. It will always be the gnome it just picked up.

There's usually 3 or 4 of these that come in to Rustbolt, they have a shield on so you can't kill them until they pick up the gnome.

One of the few times I've seen Blizzard not use RNG for everything.

This quest is a shining example of how Blizzard likes to push the envelope. Usually they are subtle about it, but comparing this quest right here with its 150 rep reward that takes around 20-30 minutes to complete, to say a Broken Shore daily, you can quite clearly see Blizzard's design intentions.

Quite simple really even in 2020. Shoot box run to arrow and catch. Takes 15min max and not as horrid as some quests in Gnome Hell...

This is a hilarious quest! You shoot down the Containment Crates using the Clobberbottom's Boomer (item in your inventory from the questgiver) then check to see if there is an Abducted Rustbolt Engineer in the crate. If so, you will see so dialog from them "Ah! I'm falling!" or "Somebody catch me!" or such and you need to find the green circle on the ground under them. Stand in that circle and you instantly will be holding a pillow for them to land on! LOL I had the area to myself and it took about 5 minutes to complete. Have fun!

FYI: other things fall from the crates as well and may attack you so watch for the dialogue before you find your circle unless you can fight what falls.

unsure if listed but if you show the Spell ID in your tooltip the one with the gnomes are 153337 anything else is monsters

Lucky for the Rustbolt Resistance, Gazlowe called in me and my explosives to save the day. You wanna pitch in? Take one of my rocket launchers and blast those containment crates outta the sky. Whatever they've got trapped inside will come tumblin' down real fast, so you gotta run underneath and catch 'em.
