The Warchief Awaits popped up after first login with a level 110 toon one week after prepatch for BfA.
If you completed the story with one character (of the same faction), you can talk to Sylvanas "I have heard this tale before" to skip the chain after accepting The Warchief Commands (step 2). You'll get teleported to the south of Darkshore with access to World Quests.
You will need to complete the previous chapters to unlock the following ones (chapter 1 and The Battle for Lordaeron (chapter 3, step 2) can be skipped).

Chapter 1 (unlocked 07/24/2018):

The Warchief Awaits - meet Lady Sylvanas Windrunner in Undercity (use the middle doorway in the Apothecarium to reach her -> /way Undercity 53.22 62.73 Entrance). Don't use the teleporter from Silvermoon to go to Uc, this might kill you
The Warchief Commands - travel to Crossroads and meet High Overlord Saurfang
A Quick Diversion - travel to Astranaar in Ashenvale and meet Lorash
Everybody Has a Price - dismount and use your extrabutton to mark the guards
A Timely Arrival - meet Lady Sylvanas Windrunner
Zoram'gar Outpost - fly to Zoram'gar Outpost and speak to the mentioned NPC. Return to Astranaar
On The Prowl - turn in at the border between Ashenvale and Darkshore
Into the Woods - kill 6 enemies
Ripe for the Picking - return to Zoram'gar Outpost
A Quick Flyover - speak to Zarvik Blastwix and kill wisps and trees
An Unstoppable Force - return to the border to Darkshore, pass the wall and wait for Sylvanas. Reload, if she doesn't appear for you
A Glaive Misunderstanding - burn glaives with your Everburning Torch
Clearing Them Out - kill 7 elfs
Blurred Vision - kill 8 owls and 10 furbolgs
The Trees Have Ears - kill Burning Ancient (cinematic after turn in)
The Blackwood Den - kill 10 furbolgs
Aggressive Inspiration - place 3 banners
The Start of Something Good - return to Zoram'gar Outpost
A Very Clear Message - kill 10 elfs
Fueling the Horde War Machine - collect Azerite lying around
A Gift of Azerite - turn in at the marked area
A Wild Ride - click Goblin Hellion, it will transport you. Kill enemies
A Looming Threat - return to Sylvanas and click her dialogue
After that 4 World Quests in Darkshore popped up.

It took around 40 minutes.

Chapter 2 (unlocked on 07/31/2018):

Saurfang Returns - find Saurfang (I got this quest after entering Darkshore)
No Small Mercy - click 8 citizens
Seaside Rendezvous - kill 2 named NPC (Caranne Briarbow and Ariel Stagguard)
Driving Them Out - kill 15 defenders
Killer Queen - fly to the marked area, find Saurfang, watch roleplay and meet Sylvanas at the beach (45.52, 18.26). Click her dialogue (cinematic)

It took around 11 minutes, starting at Darkshore's south & without cinematic.

You will gain War-Torn Reins of the Undercity Plaguebat (teaches Undercity Plaguebat) at the end (reward from Killer Queen) and also get Teldrassil Hippogryph (Smoldering Reins of the Teldrassil Hippogryph) for the other faction at the same time. So you only need to complete the quest chain on one faction to get both mounts, but they are bound to their faction.

Chapter 3 (unlocked on 08/07/2018):

It took ca. 27 minutes, starting in Og at Saurfang (ca. 21 without cinematics)

Chapter 4 (unlocked on BfA Release):

A Dying World - travel to Silithus and meet Magni (popped up after login). Speak to Zidormi, if you changed the phasing in Silithus before
The Heart of Azeroth - follow Magni to the translocator and click the console's dialogue (cinematic). Speak to Magni
You will get Heart of Azeroth and Have a Heart
Infusing the Heart - use your extrabutton Heart of Azeroth at the azerite ores to fill the bar, go to the middle and click it again
The Speaker's Imperative - go to Orgrimmar (use the transporter behind Magni) and meet Nathanos Blightcaller
Battle for Azeroth: Mission Statement - enter Grommash Hold (cinematic) and meet your team in the inn
The Stormwind Extraction - click Blightcaller's Easy Death on the table and go to the wall. Click Skyhorn Eagle, it will transport you to the solo scenario:
- destroy the two padlocks and enter Stormwind's sewer
- go to the marked area and meet Rokhan
- click the door, speak to High Overlord Saurfang (wait for his dialogue is complete before you open the next door. Might bug otherwise)
- go to the mark on the other side, click the door to free the Zandalaris. Follow and defend your team on the way to the northeastern part of the dungeon. Click Stormwind Sewer Access
- speak to Rokhan and follow him. Speak to him again after you jumped into the water, follow again
- kill attackers and follow your team and speak to Nathanos Blightcaller. Follow again
- destroy Icy Barrier
- kill enemies on your way to the nothern dock. Enter your ship and speak to Princess Talanji (cinematic)
Welcome to Zuldazar - follow Princess Talanji
Rastakhan - click Enforcer's Pterrordax, it will transport you to the princess. Talk to her (cinematic)
Speaker of the Horde - speak to Zolani and follow her. Use the elevator and click Horde Banner at the balcony
Re-enter the building and visit the tree chambers. Turn in at the other room at the floor
To Matters at Hand - meet the princess
We Need Each Other cinematic. You get Welcome to Zandalar after turning in
Quest line done - now you can chose your preferred quest area at the map on the table

It took ca. 55 minutes (ca. 50 without cinematics)

It can be taken as either the civilians thanking us for sparing them or Blizzard not changing dialogue for factions. I'd like to believe we did spare the civilians out of Honor.

In case there are some interested Horde players, there's a corresponding Alliance quest called Rescue Effort. I had to abandon the quest and redo it five times to get what I think are all of the dialogues.

After having done this quest countless times on alt after alt, I got to thinking. Since we can't understand each other, as exampled by the civilians' responses given by Sambu;

How did they know we were telling them it was safe to leave and not we're going to kill you if you move?

It can't be body language. I stand the same way in front of an enemy just prior to making the first hit.

Of course, this brings back the old issue as to WHY we can't talk with each other. Especially since Pandaria when up until level 12 a character that would eventually elect to go horde plays and talks with a character that could eventually elect to go alliance. So, why, at least, can't THEY talk with each other after level 12? Suddenly they become stupid and can't understand the same words they knew at level 11? But, beyond fostering animosity between the player base, there is no reason why alliance players/characters can't talk with horde players/characters. Even in their own movie, "Warcraft" there was communication between Garona and Anduin, et al. She learned both languages. Although she was "forbidden" to speak human common, she did. But, it makes NO SENSE in a military aspect for combatants to not know at least some of the enemy's language. If nothing more than to obtain intelligence to report back to the King / Warchief.

Blizzard has been fostering animosity between their players, as players for a very long time. It's one thing to encourage horde and alliance characters to hate each other. It's another to encourage the players to hate each other. It's gotten so bad, even most players on the same side rarely help each other out. I just finished a world quest where a Paladin, knowing we were both on the same quest, rushed ahead to kill the quest npc before I could reach them, on several occasions. I'd get there just after they died. That mount they have is wonderful, as it gets them to the action quickly. Sadly, this person couldn't have taken the few seconds longer to run it with me so we both could have taken the kill, and the credit for the kills. Not that I couldn't have done it on my own, I could, and did. My point is, the animosity fostered between players is what motivated him to not even care there was another horde player trying to do the same quest and not only did he not help, he actively did things that hindered the other horde player. And most of you won't even understand what I'm trying to say. I've played Rift, I know bad word. However, in that game, the two factions can not only talk with each other, but they can run dungeons and certain quests together. They can join the same guilds. And the player base is friendly and helpful. It would have been an extremely rare occurrence for me to encounter a player like the one I described above. Where, in World of Warcraft, that is the norm, and the helpful friendly players are the exception. Yes, they do exist. I'm one of them. Even after I've killed the main npc in a world quest, and I see another player struggling with them, I jump in and help them kill it, knowing I won't be getting any reward for it, knowing I won't be getting anything out of it. Sadly, more times than I can count, after jumping in to help that other player from dying, they high tail it and run leaving me to fight it alone. And die on occasion. I was so ecstatic that we got our buffs back. When I'm on my priest or mage I constantly stop what I'm doing, click on a player running by to buff them. I've seen other players jump in and help after they've completed the quest, so I know they exist. Sadly, I've yet to see a priest or mage randomly buff a player not in their party. But, they're the exception in WoW as oppose to the rule in Rift. All because Blizzard has fostered animosity between the players since, I believe Warcraft, even though I only started with Burning Crusade.

Well, rant over. I fully expect the haters to down rate this. Even knowing everything I wrote is true.

I've always loved Lady Sylvanas, but sadly, she's lost the plot with all the dishonor she's bringing The Horde.

Saurfang: "I will not slay innocents. If they do not raise arms against us, we shall spare them"

Sylvanas blew up the World Tree knowing it held only civilians.

So let me get this straight.

Your character goes into Lor'danel. There's a bunch of citizens cowering on the spot fully expecting you to kill them. Instead you walk right up to one of them and start trying to tell them they're now a prisoner of the Horde, doing a bunch of weird gestures and trying to point them in the general direction of the Horde encampment.

The citizen is thoroughly confused.

Your skills at interracial body language is clearly something you'll need to work at.

You start trying to use a variety of very broken Common phrases to tell them things like "Horde. Safe. Go." or "Saurfang. Go. No hurt." Because obviously, they would be so much safer if they headed straight for the enemy camp. On the other side of Darkshore. Past several other Alliance camps and bases. Besides, you're the most trustworthy person you know, so obviously they would listen to you. The guy who's left a trail of corpses of people they probably knew.

The Lor'danel citizen thanks you for saving them (presumably, because you can't understand common) and runs away. That was a job well done. Satisfied, you head to the next hapless citizen and repeat pretty much the same thing without even checking to see which way the last citizen ran away to.

What a great quest.

• Accept the quest, No Small Mercy, from High Overlord Saurfang at coords 52.1, 22.4 (Lor'danel, Darkshore).
• Travel northwest to the area of coords 50.8, 19.1.
• Speak with 8 Lor'danel Citizen, to direct them to leave Lor'danel village where they will undergo interrogation.
• Head back to coords 52.1, 22.4.
• Turn in the quest to High Overlord Saurfang.
