I have been trying to do this quest for days and to no avail. I will be trying again shortly but not holding my breath anyone have any other news would be happy to hear it.

Don't just rush into town, as you'd become PvP tagged and meet inevitable death at the hands of guards and Alliance players.

Investigate the watchpost cabin: Kill the guard in front of the building, then walk inside towards the back door. A cutscene will start automatically. As you've automatically walked out among the allies you'll aggro them as you regain control.
Investigate the harbor terrace: Jump down from the right side of the bridge, then swim up to a stone, climb on to a small glowing marker in front of a very narrow alley, and the cutscene will start.
Investigate the outdoor workshop: Swim past the wide side of the building, reaching the gable. Kill the bloke standing there then move to the small glowing marker at the water corner of the gable. The cutscene will start. The PvP border is quite close here so you may accidentally trigger PvP mode so be prepare to beat it afterwards.

Watchpost cabin: kill 1 guard near the front entrance to the building
Harbor terrace: jump down from the bridge into the water or directly at marked location.
Outdoor workshop: follow the river to the south

So, once again Blizzard has found a way to force PvE players into PvP mode. Nice Blizzard that you've proven time and time again you care little about all of your player base. You're only concern is those players who like pvp play. What a ruse this expansion was to introduce "war mode" making those of us who were sick of pvp players interfering with the quest givers on pve realms. We THOUGHT this expansion took care of that. Well, it did take care of THAT. But now Blizzard has come up with a creative way to force pve players to enter pvp mode, put the "outpost" quests in pvp places or so close to them it's near impossible to do without getting flagged pvp, such as this one. I took ONE step to far into the place my "ghost image" indicated I needed to be in order for the cut scene to start and got flagged pvp.

What makes it even more sneaky, the mobs inside aren't even listed as pvp. They're normal quest mobs. BUT, the area marks you for pvp. Real F'ing nice Blizzard!

varenne's coords and gonville's descriptions are correct - I would like to add 2 things:

There are little outlines of your character that appear where you're supposed to stand to trigger each cutscene.
I was not flagged for PvP during this encounter. There are certainly guards around, avoid them, but there is no automatic flagging of any kind if you stick to the outskirts of town. It gets close at the outdoor workshop, but is completely avoidable. I was able to mount up after killing the dockworker and jump the "fence" on the dock.

A rogue quest for non-rogues.

By the time you come here and searching for an answer, it will be too late. You'll be flagged PvP and maybe dead.

Just stay in the water and only get as close as you need to for this and the companion quest (Obtaining Sails and Supplies).

You will most likely get flagged PvP but you won't aggro the elites.

I found that Alliance probably won't take you one-to-one but they will get brave in a group, so watch out for that too.

Having the water strider really helps for this quest if you have it. For the workshop I approached from the road side rather than the water side. wait for the PVP flagged elite guard on the horses to pat back to the other side, then pull the guy on the corner of the dock.

The harbor terrace you can approach from the back side, or go up the stairs on the side. you will aggro the guy in the corner, just kill him and walk around the outside to the back corner.

The watchpost cabin also just approach from front, kill the one guy then head inside for cutscene. If you go out the back door you may aggro a couple of guys.

i did end up getting flagged. If you avoid the pvp guards you should be fine. They are easily identified as they are elites and are on horseback.

I am just a bit curious how I am able to sneak up and listen to their conversations. Usually, alliance just speak gibberish, but these people speak perfectly comprehensible Hordish. Do they know I'm outside, listening? Are they speaking in Hordish to feed me false information?

One can only wonder.

You'll see a gold outline where you're supposed to stand to complete each part. Don't be an idiot like me and think "Oooh, I wonder why there's a ghostly yellow druid kitty over there?" then run around for 10 mins trying to trigger the cutscene and failing because you're going everywhere BUT the ghostly gold outline of yourself.

You can do this quest in stealth if you have it, just look out for the elite guards that patrol around. They'll break your stealth...then break you.

I actually came to look at WoWhead comments to see if anyone else shared my frustrating experience with this quest, after I was clear of town and thought I was safe. Only to find that 4 elite guards had decided to attack me near the road leading to Bridgeport out of nowhere, only to kill my level 120 shaman again.

I really cannot fathom what Blizzard was thinking with this quest. One of the most poorly implemented quests I've ever experienced in this game, and I've seen quite a few of them...

This is much easier...after you get the quest run down the mountain...there are TWO bridges...AVOID the bridge to the right (East) is has a group of Alliance that patrols...go the the left (west) one first...DO NOT cross the river! the first first building before the bridge is Watchpost Cabin, but says Two Spans Tavern when you mouse over... there is ONE non-elite Bridgeport sentry patrolling the bridge that you may have to kill and and one non- elite worker inside to kill. Walk into the tavern and you will see your ghosted figure of your character to start the cut scene.
The next cut-scene is directly BELOW the west bridge is the outdoor workshop...cross the river (you may have to kill another non-elite sentry before crossing, but only one... (the building has a moss/flower looking-thing on the front concrete at waters edge and a clump of what looks like rocks that you can climb up on the left around the short corner. You should be able to see your ghost character as you walk up (do not go inside the building) There is a non-elite dockworker that patrols the walkway and you may have to kill him to watch the cut-scene.
The Harbor Terrace is the next building to the right (East)
DON'T FORGET TO COLLECT THE CHAIN AND SAILS FOR THE OTHER QUEST AS YOUR PROGRESSING.....
Now either swim or water walk to the far right (East) on the river...to the end of the little island. You will be close to the East Bridge now. but they shouldn't bother you. On the edge of the building is a wooden dock that has your final ghost character...you will have to kill 1-2 non-elite chemist or dockworkers, DO NO aggro the Elite guards at the end of the dock, but try to jump up after you kill the non-elite (about halfway up the dock) and turn around to collect sails and chain and see your last cut scene. Much easier than half-explained above...thx.

Outdoor Workshop (75,51): The yellow figure is crouching on the dock outside the building next to the east end of the south bridge. Kill one mob, watch cut scene.
Watchpost Cabin (74,48): The figure is inside the Two Spans Tavern, the small building at the west end of the north bridge. Kill one mob, go inside, watch cut scene.
Harbor Terrace (75,50): Swim across the river from near the watch post cabin. Use the large brown rock to get up onto the wall to where the figure is, wait for the dockworker to pat away, watch cut scene.
Turn in at 72,52. I was able to complete it this way without getting flagged.

Am I the only person for whom the glowing figure/marker simply doesn't exist? I think my quest is bugged :(

Edit: YUP. It was bugged. After a relog, the crouching figures were appearing properly, and I was able to finish the quest. What a PITA

After dying once on the previous collection quest, I found I could swim close enough to taunt the chemist out from under the roof, and then swim around the corner and taunt the workman on the side wharf without getting close enough to any other mobs to attract attention.

This quest is buggy in WM.

I seem to be aggroing the Alliance guards who have 1.5 M health and tons of armor. Must be something to do with Warmode cause without warmode I was able to do it in One take.

It seems that you get flagged for PVP when standing on the golden figures, even if you don't aggro any mobs.

There is a particular Bridgeport Guard that looks and is named just like all of the others, yet is level ?. This guard spawns next to the flight path, but will randomly despawn from time to time.

There are crates placed near-ish (yet still pretty far away from) the flight path where this guard will aggro on you from Kalimdor and one-shot you.

It's one thing to be PVP and aggroing level 57 elite guards, but this sleeper will end you.
