It appears this quest is kind of bugged. You can complete it but it's difficult (as of 8.0.1 beta). You need to have 8+ beetles to start with. Once you have them, you need to make sure he's been reset. Then, draw his attention and hit him with beetles until the bar fills up. Do not lose agro or go too far away, it will stop working. He hits hard so prep any damage mitigation.

Feeding Frenzy world quest is located in Vol'dun Bonetrail Gulch on Kul Tiras isle at 36.82 37.79 .
To complete the quest you have to feed King Rakataka to death. He's walking around the area.
You can do it by picking up Gulch Beetle from the ground and throwing them at King Rakataka using the action button Feed Rakataka.
When you throw beetles his feeding bar will go up, you have to fill it all the way.

Another quest Blizzard just didn't think all the way through. Cloth wearers, be warned, this might need more than one player to do. As a Druid in Guardian spec with iLvL 290 gear, he hit me four times and I died. I've yet to figure out how to "feed" him, "fight" him, and "stay alive" without killing him AND finish the quest. I'm sure it can be done, but seriously, this isn't a world quest, it's a world boss.

Edit: Well, apparently it's still bugged. The first time I had to click on the action button each time I wanted to feed him. In other words, eight bugs, eight presses on the action button. Of course, I only got to the forth before dying. The second run, much MUCH easier. I hit the action button once, fed him ONCE and got his attention. The second press, before he ever got to me, fed him the remainder of the bugs in my inventory and he died on the spot. The only fight I had was all the little Bonebicker Hyena that got a tad upset with me when I killed him. About eight or ten attacked me. In tank spec they were a push over. But, not sure if that's part of the bug and cloth wearers need not worry or . . . worry.

So, apparently, not a world boss, just a buggy world quest. What a shocker!

If you get "Feeding Frenzy failed" message and can't finish it, get rid of any leftover bugs in your bags and move away from the WQ area and it should complete.

The quest failed for me.
It failed the moment someone killed King Rakataka, after I had fed him 5 beetles already.
The issue was resolved for me, after running back to Shatterstone Harbor (for alliance), and running back to the quest area.
Upon entering the area, it completed and I got the reward.

lol - I was reading abut this WQ as it was not obvious from the quest description what to do - returning to the screen I got "quest done!" - I did nothing! Nice.

If it finishes successfully but you still have bugs in your inventory, it won't complete until you drop them from inventory, leave the WQ area, then come back in and you'll get your reward and completion.

You can complete this quest without engaging him. I collected 8 beetles and then followed from a distance and threw them as soon as the skill would let me. He didn't aggro but his bar went up. The distance from where you can throw the beetles is larger than his aggro range. Took 5 beetles and I completed the quest.

If you stay on the level just above the beach (outside of the cave entrance), you can collect all the beetles while mounted. Just avoid the King for a few minutes. The beetles respawn quickly. Gather a few, then throw them at the King outside of aggro range as he meanders by. Even if you do happen to aggro him... he overindulges quickly, vomits, and keels over dead. Done without breaking a sweat! (Although you may still feel like you need to take a shower. haha)

I grabbed one beetle and the world quest was no longer in my quest log; but still on the map? I also cant see the npc at all. This character is a fresh 120 with no questing progression so far in Zandalar, so maybe its a phasing issue since its kinda close to the outpost in Vol'dun.

As of 10/26/2018 this quest is horribly bugged. Despawns … walking in out sometimes respawns it but so far nothing to get it to stay to completed. Beetles despawn as soon as they quest pops. At nearly 5am eastern … just gonna call it a night.

This can be a quick quest. Don't use your weapons unless you have to fend off some wildlife.

In the quest area you'll see an icon mid-screen showing your weapon: a Gulch Beetle.
Click on (don't kill) about 7 gold Gulch Beetles. The icon shows the stack size.
Locate King Rakataka on your mini-map - a large yellow dot. He walks a circuit around the rocks.
Come up behind King Rakataka, keep your distance and click on the Gulch Beetle icon to throw him beetles.
When he becomes overfed, King Rakataka will vomit green slime and keel over. Done.

Okay listen up, I got a gem for you guys. If you haven't finished progression in this area, it will often de-spawn the WQ as you walk towards center of it. Get a friend to go with you that doesn't have problems with de-spawning (someone probably that has finished the area progression), you stay to the outer ring, go just far enough in that you can see WQ on your sidebar, but no further. Get your friend in a group and have them finish the WQ, you will get credit.
