Not sure what is wrong with this one.

First of all, my objective is "0/4 areas purged", nothing else at the moment. I am at 3/4 areas purged.
One of the caves does not have anything to purge, so no way to get an update.
Tried running arond killing stuff and clicking stuff, but nothing happens.

Update: finally found another cave that could also be used.

You have to investigate and clear four caves:

Dark Grotto's entrance can be found at 80.5 56.5 spot, at the shore.
Bleak Sepulcher is further the east road, coordinates are 83.7 54.0.
Moldering Foyer is located at another shore, 80.8 51.0 spot.
Crumbling Chambers is located at east shore, coordinates are 86.5 52.1.

For me, i killed aleast a mob in every cave, and it seems you have to kill atleast 1 mob pack in every cave in a determined order, So you have to find the right sequence where to kill the mob packs. (sry for the bad english)
Just: kill altleast one mob pack in every cave and you will do it

Well I guess I found a solution for the bug, that the purge isn't working sometimes. One of these mob groups have a mob called Choking Horror who suicide with an explosion. When he explode it doesn't count the purge, if you stun him while casting and kill him yourself it counts. I tested it on 3 grottos and it worked on all 3 of them.

Just a warning, if you are a squishy class like myself, being a rogue made out of wet paper towel makes it extremely hard to fight 4 mobs with 64k-128k hp all at once without being melted like icecream in the trunk of your car on a 110 degree day...
May need someone sturdier than a popsicle stick to take the damage while you dps..

From what I could ascertain for this quest, each "cave" did not count as a purge unless the group of mobs were killed in quick succession - and certainly without resetting them (respawn was fairly quick on these and do not move far from the current "cave" - at least I would have the whole group reset having even killed a couple before moving around a bit). Hopefully, this can be of help to any fellow adventurers. Good luck!

Finished this today, only had two of the locations not register for me. From what I could tell, you need to be there and at least be involved in killing all of the spawns in each location. If you get there and focus down a single mob and someone else kills another before you can tag it, it won't count. If you run in and there's a fight in progress and a mob is already dead, you won't get credit either. My recommendation is to not even bother if there's already someone fighting in a particular spot, unless you can guarantee the mobs are all still up. If you find a location that's not touched, run in and AoE tag all of the mobs immediately. If it works like my run did, even if someone else comes in to help you'll still get credit, so long as you tagged them all.

As a ww monk I popped my cd's and got all 4 areas purged as I got the enemies killed within 5 seconds of each other.

When attempting to clear each area sometimes it wouldn't count and after seeing someone comment about tagging first it made sense, each time it wasn't counting someone else was there and tagged them before me. I'd still count as getting loot but for some reason I had to tag first. :shrug:

Edit: Oh and I was definitely using aoe, I was guardian.

I am not sure if this works or not, but when I stood close to those fountain totem thingies when the mobs in the room died, i got the Purge quest credit, hope this helps :D

This is probably one of the biggest offenders of a broken and just plain overly hard quest.
As a Feral Druid (now Guardian for the sake of just completing the quest), it's by far one of the most hardest quests I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. There are MULTIPLE things wrong with this quest:

#1. Crabs are insanely OP. If there's a pack with a crab (3 out of 4 pack spawns have a crab), you will probably die. They have a giant cone AoE stun that lasts for 4 seconds. That doesn't sound too bad right? Except you're tanking 3 other mobs, including this crab. Bonus points if the 2 crabs chain this 4 second long stun move. Don't forget that the Undead mob's have a root. Have fun avoiding it! It should also be said they have 150K health at level 120. Normal mobs have 40K.
#2. The quest just flat out doesn't want to work sometimes. You can kill every mob in a pack and it won't count for the quest. This may be due to the Undead mob using a Suicide move which cancels out you "Killing the whole pack" for the quest, since you technically didn't kill the Undead.
#3. If anyone, and I mean ANYONE helps you with the quest, or even pops up in the location you're clearing, you somehow have an even lower chance of getting quest credit than usual. Don't ask me how this works.
#4. The Strain gimmick doesn't even work in the area. I may have just gotten unlucky or glitched with it, but this is supposed to be a thing that helps you with this quest by providing buffs for getting damaged, especially by 4 mobs at a time. No +25% Damage or Dodge chance for you!

Don't get me wrong, its a great zone, but this is the kind of thing we need playtested by more than PvE Tank players. It's the beginning of the expansion and questing is a requirement for World Quests. This one in particular? I dont know. But this quest is just insanely dumb. ~~If you want some REALLY easy honorable kills to grind, THIS is the spot~~. Don't tell anyone I told you this. Keep in mind this is from the perspective of a leather class based around dots.

inb4 4 patches from now; "wtf I did this easy at a ilvl 500"

I did this fairly easy as a 120 ret paladin with 289 ilvl. It felt good purging everything door to door. Guess I'll end up at Northrend.

Suiciding doesn't seem to be the issue for me here, doing the quest last night myself it didn't seem to be anyway, the actual issue is that 9/10 times I had this problem was that I had killed 1-2 mobs then wiped on the trash, run back and tried again. In these cases it DOES NOT work as you have to kill the entire spawn group in one kill.

So to get it working kill all mobs in the purge area, if you get credit excellent! If you don't then likely another player died and moved on leaving a mob dead so it wasn't a full pack. Wait for the mobs to respawn then make sure you kill them all in one go. If you die you need to reclear the mobs and wait for respawns yourself.

Yes it sucks -.-

The bad thing here is if you get 2 crabs it can be very hard to kill them, the good news is the stun can be outranged so turn on enemy cast bars!

Be prepared, this Quest Giver has one of the worst quest chains I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing in World of Warcraft History. Currently there is a bug which makes the next quest unavailable the series of quests until you die or zone in and out of instanced content. Here's what's irritating about this quest chain:

You have to return to this NPC for each turn in and he only provides a single quest at a time.
You have to revisit the same cave areas across the island multiple times for each quest objective.
Quest objectives are RNG based, and may not appear in each marked quest area, meaning you have to make your way to another marked area.
The caves are filled with 3x Enemys that have 100k health which is about half the health of a Rare Spawn each for BFA, also they Stun & Root.
Repeat 9 times, with the bug and die each time. Oh and the World Quest is also bugged with 0 quest objectives spawning. As of Aug 20th, 2018 11PM ET.

so here's me trying to help with the crabs

i practically bashed my head against the wall not having much equipment
aaand i'm a squishy rogue hating diminishing returns on stuns and stuff
but here's what i noticed:

- crabs will try to slice your arteries. if you run away from them, it won't land
- crabs will go for a stunning slam. if you're in the air from a jump while they slam, it won't land ... needs timing

now go and crush some of these bois for your own sanity

This quest is bugged to bugger. I just killed 3 lots of different mobs in these damn caves and didn't get quest credits. REALLY annoying when u have that damned 45 second debuff also

I was able to kite a Choking Horror out of a room shared by two crabs, and cleared the area when he died. This was after clearing the same room and not getting credit, but I think there weren't any Choking Horrors in it the first time.

You may only need to kill any of the Horrors in the room before they suicide to get credit.

I completed the first quest on the island "Flush them Out" and it was so rough on a freshly dinged 120 toon that even though I managed I decided to stop there. But now I have this "Afraid" debuff which randomly goes off with some sort of fleeing motion. I can't even sit down to eat and get a food buff because this dumb debuff interrupts it. I'm going to assume from comments on other threads about other parts of this awful quest chain that you need to die to get rid of it because it doesn't have a timer on it.

Update: mission complete, the Afraid debuff drops when you die.

I will refrain from being too negative about these particular quests, but I will say whoever decided they were a good idea needs a good rethink on the matter.

Annoying quest. I had to clear out some spots two or three times before I got credit, almost died many times. I fought powerful demons in Legion, now I spend 5 minutes fighting a damn larvae or spider? I can't travel from point A to point B without battling through a dozen damn insects or worms!

This game tries my patience, especially with annoying, buggy quests like this!

Fire Mage here. Ilevel 278 at the time of doing this quest.
At my first attempt all caves had crabs but, the mobs respawn randomly so, wait if you can, the next time the might not be crabs, and the task would just slightly easier, but just only one bit, be prepared to die a lot!
And to kill lots of mobs without getting any credit! :/

If you don't see the NPC Wayne the Ancestral to turn in this quest when you walk into The Lost Estate, he moves around a bit on the bottom floor so check under the wooden platform when you first enter the house. I ran around outside for a minute or two totally confused trying to find the guy.

If you get completely bugged as PACIFIED forever and can't do anything about it, you need to DIE. This will remove the problem. I am guessing blizzard expected you to die because you could not longer attack. Healing and running away just gets you stuck with being pacified forever.

This is one of my favourite quest chains since it references Darkest Dungeon, a game I really love. Combined with WoW makes it even more awesome. I wish they would make this longer and I hope they'll increase the rate at which your resolve gets tested because I had to purposely get hit for a very long time to get my resolve tested.

I got the these debuffs after getting my resolve tested.

Afraid
Damage dealt reduced by 10%
Dodge rating reduced by 10%
Movement speed reduced by 10%

Lost Cause
Damage dealt reduced by 10%
Damage taken increased by 15%
Dodge rating reduced by 5%
Movement speed reduced by 10%

Before your resolve gets tested, you get a debuff called "The stage is set" with the description "dazed, reeling...". Its trying to imitate the ancestor (narrator) in Darkest Dungeon.

Okay guys so I figured something out.

In some mini map spots that you're supposed to go and kill mobs for the quest, the mobs doesn't give you credit for the quest...so, the only 1 pack of 4 mobs that let's you complete the quest, regardless of how many people are in your party or anything, are the mobs named Drowned Acolyte and Chocking Horror . I hope this comment helps you.

My ilvl is not that high for a BM hunter yet. I still managed to kill the mobs, trying to kill the self destructing horrors before suicide, and without help like previous posts suggested (sadly). Unfortunately, I could not say "what the f**k" enough. I killed mobs in a cave (those damned crabs and horrors), 3 times and still did not get credit. It wasn't until after the Drowned Acolytes and dead murlocs spawned, that when I killed them I finally received credit. In the end, all I got was chump change that hardly covers my repair bill :(

So I killed these guys over and over and never got credit for it. Luckily another hunter figured out the trick and once I got it I got the quest done easily.

Make sure you are 100 % inside the building. I was dragging them outside to fight and not getting credit. Once I fought them in the building I got credit with no problems

As a hunter, I focused chocking horror and killed him first. I ice trapped a crab and then picked them off easily with my pet tanking.

also changing specs then back again sets the resolve bar back to 0 so no need to worry about debuffs

As an Outlaw rogue, I had very few problems after my first encounter which I barely survived. Sap one, blind the other, and just tear them apart one by one. Occassionally you won't get credit. They respawn quickly, just take out the 2nd group and get your credit. The 2nd group that spawns is normally much easier than the first. You can complete the first two without filling your bar. The 3rd, I recommend the cave down on the beach underneath the giant stone tentacle. There's a cleansing censer in there that will reduce your stress bar to 0% so you can finish without going nuts.

I did come close to dying due to stuns (25%HP) one time. I could not do this on my 305 Enhancement Shaman solo.

Edit: Also I think there's a small easter egg from Darkest Dungeon here in this whole questline plus the NPC at the beginning says "Remember, overconfidence is a slow and insidious destroyer."

Hey all,
So I did this on my first try and it was credited.
I read everyone's comments so thanks for those.
I am a prot pally on my main so instead of going into the building I attacked with Avengers Shield from the porch of the the building, drawing everything outside to me, and then killed everything there, I also moved away from the suicide dude when he went to blow up. Shortly after killing the last of the four I got the credit for quest completion.

Hope this helps.

Also not sure if you all know this or not, but you can reset your strain meter by just swimming out of the zone and then swimming back in.

I cleared the mobs in all 4 areas many times and was still only showing 3/4 cleared. I got the %^&*s and went back to Wayne the ancestral and was able to hand in the quest anyway. Very buggy.

Yes, this quest is definitly bugged. Three target points I had to defeat twice to make it count. One target point presented me with some untypical NPCs, and, no wonder, also had to do this again to make it count.

So, TL;DR: Defeat each target point until it counts. Usually 2× is enough.

OMG, Blizz, some Quality Management wouldn’t be too expensive, no? (This is not the only bugged quest in BfA, not to speak about the older content, never fixed!) You are wondering about diminishing subscriptions? Make it a top-quality game again.

The bug with the Bleak Sepulcher cave is interesting. I doubt that what I'm about to say makes an in game difference, but I entered from the West door twice, killed mobs and never counted. Then I entered a cave, killed the mobs and it counted, and then I look and it was the Bleak Sepulcher. Seems I'd entered it from another door * sigh *

This quest is just downright terrible... Overly hard mobs and random completion doesn't make for fun. Yes it is Darkest Dungeon, but this is WoW. If I want to play Darkest Dungeon I will go play that.

I first tried this quest as a ilvl 295 or thereabouts Vengeance DH. I managed to clear one area with a LOT of effort. I came back as a 319 ilvl and it went much smoother though I agree, bugged as hell. I had to clear several areas twice. It seems when it was the stun-crabs it always worked to clear.

I usually play a boomkin, but I had to go bear in order to do this quest. Even with my gear being basically all boomkin gear it was still cake compared to doing it as a caster. Non-completion bug was still an issue when I did it - had to redo one of the points when I didn't get credit. Newly minted 120, ilvl 278 :(

I came here looking for information on how to get rid of or lower strain during the quest. After two purges, I'm better than half full. Apparently there isn't a way to lower it as no one is talking about it. I'm real glad this class or that class can do the quest with no problems. But really, who cares. It's not helpful to let us know you completed it. HOW did you complete it? That would be more helpful information.What mechanics did you find worked, what didn't. That would be more helpful. So, can we lower the strain? Or no? If so, how?

Edit: Ok, I decided to follow the advice of going into a dungeon to remove the buff. I got on my water strider and took off towards Shrine of the Storm. I didn't get half way there when the buff went away. I turned around and when I got back on land, the bar was cleared. I finished the other two with only 1/4 bar. When you pick up the next quest, Despondent Ablutions Wayne the Ancestral clears your bar for you. He did mine anyway. Good luck, I hope this helps someone.

This quest gave me absolute cancer.

I did 3/4 without any trouble nor suspicion that anything is wrong, but I did notice that the mobs are really hard, it's like fighting 2 rares at once.
After dying to the 4th objective once, I went back and killed them, but I got no credit.

I repeated this 5 times (various packs, 2x crab + 1 zombie, 1 crab + 1 priest + 1 zombie, 2 zombie + 2 priest, etc.), and didn't get credit any of those times either.
I decided to try to relog, and after relogging and killing a pack, it worked.

Ilvl 335 outlaw.

There are things inside the caves you can click on to up your Insanity Bar. Helps a lot for Druids or any other class that can stealth or invisibility.
Also, the bug seems fixed for other people being around. I was standing there contemplating how I was going to approach my 3rd cave when a Pally blazed in and dropped a Consecrate. I said screw it even after reading about the 'will fail with someone else around' comment and sure enough it worked.
That said, still died twice trying to solo these as an iLvl 336 feral druid!

As a warlock, bring your Voidlord. If there are two crabs in the pack, make sure to have CDs ready, and even if it's only one crab you should fear it till you have killed the others, such as the undead that suicides (you want to kill it yourself). I did it as destruction with 311 ilvl, a bit of a struggle but not too much with the tanking demon!

Everybody is missing the point of this sequence.
Strained... The horrors of this place claw at your sanity.
Despondent...Take more damage, do less damage, dodge less...
There are more caves than are marked on the minimap...
The actions don't always give credit...
The mobs are random and sometimes hit like brick trucks...

It's all supposed to be this way. It's playing on the insanity and stupid-hard-broken tropes.
Doing things over again and expecting a different result.
Everything you do can fill the bar and make it harder.
Wait and come back later.. maybe a few days.

This whole area exists to make you question your sanity and the sanity of the game.

My second round doing this quest on an alt mage. After trying to kill first group died, came back to kill and get no credit for purging whatever. Waited for respawn killed them again and still no credit, I just deleted the quest.

I was stuck on 3/4. I killed two groups that the mini map says I should get credit but didn't receive anything. I reloaded my ui and then it worked.

Not sure exactly what the top comment is all about or if the quest has been updated since. I just got the game about half a month ago so I'm a fairly new player to WoW. This quest took me about 15-20 minutes to complete on a Disc priest lvl 120 with a fairly low iLvl-310. Never dropped below 50% health. Sure the mobs have stun and have 140k health about and I used a cooldown for each area, but if you can't handle that then you're probably playing the wrong game.

Also while doing the quest with PvP activated. I didn't see a single friendly player or enemy player; this certainly isn't the place to farm Honor.

TLDR; ez quest.

I was in the middle of fighting a Choking Horror when for no reason at all it just stopped attacking and became unkillable with error text reading "target is dead".
Had to wait for a pack to respawn to finish the quest, only took about a minute.
P.S. i fought 9 crabs total

First, these things hit HARD. I'm actually surprised some of them aren't marked as elite.

Onward to the real matter! I killed the groups 5 seperate times, and never got any credit. I abandoned this quest, because it's buggy as heck.

I've just started the quest chain today, in the middle of this quest, and I haven't had to deal with the Strain debuff yet, it just doesn't build up like it says it will. It could maybe be because I'm a pet class (BM hunter)? I've found one Antiquated Idol at each of the four areas that are usable, which cleared 25 of my non-existent Strain.

I'm guessing it could have been turned off by the devs for being too problematic. I'm sure the quest designers wanted to make this interesting or unique, but sometimes things just don't work out the way you want them to.

One thing that might help people whose strain meter is getting too high - Run into the nearby Shrine of the Storm instance. It will teleport you back near the quest giver and reset your strain meter to zero.

It's pretty safe to assume that the quest chain is inspired by Darkest Dungeon.
You answer a letter from centuries ago, follow the guidance of an ancestral spirit who says you only delay the inevitable, fight void related monsters, get strain (stress) in combat that leads to a virtue check at 100 and you encounter curios increasing or cleansing the strain (stress).
Pretty damn cool as someone who played Darkest Dungeon.

For those like me that has 3/4 done and unable to complete it because the other two building were empty the problem could be that you have either Twist the Knife or His Eye Upon You quests in your log. If yes, you just need to complete and it will fix.

Not sure if this was just time or an actual thing. But I went and sat next to the fire near the repair guy (The Smith) and my strain started to go down. So if your strain is high, but you don't want to have to come back later. Try sitting by that fire for a couple minutes

I Googled this quest, and in a Forum post someone asked: "Do you have either Twist the Knife or His Eye Upon You quests in your log? If yes, you just need to complete and it will fix."

I can confirm that the Bleak Sepulcher mobs respawned as soon as I had handed in Twist the Knife in Borealus. In the case of "His Eye Upon You", I went towards Brother Pike (South of Shrine of the Storm), and passed the Bleak Sepulcher (was on 3/4), and there were mobs inside. Finished the quest 4/4, and got full bar after killing the mobs.

For me this quest has worked 75%, until Twist the Knife was handed in.

If your strain is high, enter the nearby instance and then exit, it should remove all strain.

This quest does not award Storm's Wake rep. Also, the strain meter doesn't fill unless you pick up items in the various locations- which aren't required for the quest. It doesn't make much sense to me.

As of 10.1, some quick notes:

The minimap/quest tracker helps, but sometimes makes you think there's something to do that you can't get to. I just ended up making low flying passes and looking for caves. The caves are exceptionally dark, but there is no cave-to-cave connection you need to worry about.

At level 56, when I turned this in, it said "Low Level" - which is funny, because this was a particularly difficult quest to get done. The mobs are chunky, and there's 3 or 4 at a time. It was insulting to get about 700xp for turning it in. I can't remember what it said when I accepted the quest, because that happens at a time that you might not actually do the quest for a long time. And, depending on how you do it, you could easily gain 10 levels between accepting and actually doing the quest.
