It seems with this quest, if you accept it, THEN open the weekly cache you'll get 20 Wakening Essence. You can also get 5-7 from opening Emissary caches, and also doing the random heroic legion dungeon for the day nabs you some as well. (I think 5-7)

I can confirm that turning in "Supplies" quests (bonus chest from +10k rep with an exalted Legion faction) does not give you any essences. :-( Perhaps it was this way for the other legendary item upgrade quests, but I wasn't aware, so thought it would be good to share the info.

To consolidate info from another wowhead post, here is where you CAN get essences:
- Daily emissary cache (4-10 per cache)
- Daily random heroic dungeon finder (5 daily)
- Antorus boss kills - only receive essences once per boss, regardless of difficulty (i.e. killing the first boss on lfr, normal, and heroic, you still only get essences 1 of those times) (3-6 per boss)
- Mythic + cache (20 essences, regardless of mythic difficulty completed the prior week)
- Weekly PvP quest rewards (i.e. earning 1500 honor in 2s, 3s, and rated BGs) (7 each quest completion)

NOTE: This will cancel the Unsettled Power quest and any progress you had - meaning any Writhing Essence you had will be removed and you can no longer upgrade to 970.

For most that might not be an issue but for more casual players it's really annoying (I would have finished the quest today).

I'm at 42/50 at the moment by doing 3 emissaries, the daily heroic and looting the weekly mythic+ chest.

If you can get essences by doing the weekly caps on pvp like in the past legendary upgrade quests, you could upgrade a legendary without even stepping into the raid!

Don't forget to do a Daily Heroic Dungeon once again as this awards these essences as well.

This quest is offered by Arcanomancer Vridiel in the Dalaran Blacksmith shop, if you have a sub-1000 legendary to upgrade.

The quest isn't available if don't have legendaries or only have 1000 iLvl legendaries.

There is a breadcrumb quest from Cursed Shard but it is optional, if you take this quest directly the Shard won't drop.

It is obvious and still, you need to accept this quest before going to the dungeons and try to get essences all different ways. If you first went to dungeons, for example, and only then accepted the quest, you will not receive the currency retroactively.

There are two versions of this quest: The initial one, and a repeatable one.
Before you accept or complete the initial one, you are already eligible to get some of the Essences, so that you won't miss out - this is why you see people talking about how they had some before they were on the quest.
However after you complete that first quest, you will have to pick up the quest again or you will get nothing.

Source: I foolishly tried to save questlog space by not taking the quest again and got no Essences. Sent a ticket in which confirmed how the system works.

This is the repeatable followup to A Titanic Effort.

Cursed Shard > The Cursed Shard (optional) > A Titanic Effort > Wakening Essence > Awoken Titan Essence > this quest

It seems you can start collecting Wakening Essences before you get to this quest - I already had four.

One important thing to notice... if the only legendaries that can be upgraded are in your void storage, you don't get the quest. You also don't get any essences. I submitted a ticket and was told to create a bug report.

~~This quest seems to be broken now. I have not been able to pick it up for a few weeks, but I am still gaining more Wakening Essences from the usual sources. This makes no sense.~~

It seems blizz is putting in a new system to replace this quest for patch 7.3.5. You will be able to still gather essences and turn them in for the boost item, but you won't need the quest.

What's going to happen in Patch 7.3.5 if we're midway through this quest?
The notes say that they're changing the goal to 300 as well as the number of drop x 6.

... But is our progress going to be multiplied by 6, or are we going to lose most of our progress?

Edit with answer: It seems they were not scaled, but neither was the quest requirement. So it ends up working in the player's favor with the increased drop rate!

With the changes to Wakening Essence in 7.3.5, this quest is no longer available, as you can buy the Awoken Titan Essence from him for 300 of the essences instead. However, if you had this quest in your log prior to the 7.3.5 launch, you could still turn it in to get one last "cheap" upgrade. After the patch hit I killed the weekly world boss, which gave me 120 Wakening Essence, and was allowed to turn the quest in one last time to get the upgrade. Of course, the quest is no longer available afterwards.

hi i have demon hunter i have like 300 Wakening Essence and i turn in titanic efford and how and where i can upgrade my legendaryes also i have equiped 2 legendaries lvl 1000 on my char what i can do now when i collect 1000 Wakening Essence? someone help me and give me answer tnx

I have already upgraded all my legendaries but I still have this quest showing for me. Any way to get rid of the quest without wasting the 50 essences?
