After Fighting off most of the thugs in the ring and untying Flynn as well as slaying two of the guards or whatever they are near 'sweetie', NOTHING happened and Flynn is laying unconscious on the ground. What do I do now to finish this quest ?

Ring of Booty located at west part of Freehold at 74.1 83.2 spot.
Clear mobs within the arena and rescue Flynn from the Ring of Booty.
After that you have to slay few waves of pirates (avoid cannon shots).
As you cleared all mobs, wait till gryphon got you back to Flynn.

You CAN leave the "ring" to heal and repair without losing your progress. You also have a tiny bit of time to eat in between rounds.

Fairwind's "Friends" quest is located in Tiragarde Sound Dead Man's Tale on Kul Tiras Isle.
It's a part of Freehold quest line to obtain A Sound Plan achievement.
To complete the quest untie Flynn Fairwind in the west part of Freehold city at 73.87 83.46.
Defend him from incoming forces.

2a. The Irontide Crew	Flynn Fairwind - You need to collect 3 Azerite Cutlass ( kill Irontide Cutthroat ) and 2 Trickshot's Azerite Powder Horn ( kill Irontide Trickshot ) drop is not 100% you can find mobs in Freehold.	Flynn Fairwind

Let the hippogriff pick you up after the arena, otherwise it will pick up up later and fly you back to the arena instead xD

Doing it in a group seems to phase you from your friends, but if one of you die... you can't rez while the friend is still doing the event? Bug or on purpose I don't know.

Make sure to complete all other quests before you do this one because after completing this quest you will lose pirate's hat and all npcs will be red and hostile.

Just fyi for anyone struggling, the azerite barrels detonate if you attack them and oneshot most of the mobs that spawn.

IMPORTANT NOTE!

You may have Missing Treasure! along with Fairwind's "Friends" left to do in your quest log. Make sure you do Missing Treasure! first as everything turns hostile once you complete Fairwind's "Friends".

Tried this a number of times and finally after about four tries, 32 potions and a record repair bill, my feral survived. Lots of work, lots of money and....not much of a reward at all. Where's the Ferrari? In which town in the South of France is the villa? Oh, you mean it's a Challenge Quest. That explains it.

It's simple, really. Kill several waves of 3-4, 5 or 6 attackers and don't die, then get hit by cannon balls, other mechanics and kill a few more waves of attackers. An interesting challenge but why not let us know ahead of time ("Bring a few friends...")? At least let us know there will be some time involved. And what in the name of St. Gronk is that hat thing? You lose your secret hat because you die (that didn't happen before) and then everyone in town comes along and tries to kill you? Do I hear another Bronx cheer from Irvine? C'mon guys, we're just trying to have some fun here.

i was able to get past the 1st round...then died several times in the 2nd round.
then i just sat and waited dead in the middle of the ring...and all of a sudden harlan came back.
and i rezzed and i was done :)

took several minutes of waiting.

Forst round I pulled half the mobs to one of the azerite barrels and blew that up - Mobs killed easy after that then I pulled rest of mobs to the other azerite barrel and boom.

Other rounds : After dying first time I stealthed, went in and pulled mobs one per time when that mob was alone far from the others - After killing mob I did same with remaining mobs last rounds.

As a feral druid you will die lot of times but this is how I did it.

After 15 - 20 mins quest was completed and the hippogryph grapped me and flew me out of there

Remember to be stealthed every time you enter or all mobs are on you in a split second

This must be Blizzard's interpretation of the Kobayashi Maru scenario. Especially if you're a fresh 111 cloth wearing mage.
Walk in, lose hat, 10 mobs on you in a second, die. Rez, all but two mobs are gone, kill them.
Second wave comes in, die. Come here, read the comments, rez, shimmer to a barrel, kill all the mobs.
Next roll of the dice, three mobs come in, kill one, then one of the mobs kicks you up into the spectators and another 10 mobs on you, die. Rez, shimmer to the next barrel kill most of the mobs but die before the last two fall. Rez the last two wander around separately, kill one, kill the second, quest completes. Fly off with Flynn and Taelia.
Kind of wish Kirk was there to reprogram the computer.

I am so glad that we don't lose quest progress upon death. I am also really glad that my little priest was not the only one to have trouble with this quest. I did find out a few things, though.

1. Those azerite barrels either do not respawn, or they take a loooooong time.
2. Those suckers with red names hit hard.
3. Those suckers with yellow names hit hard, too.
4. Yes, those yellow named suckers will join the fight if you use AoE too close to them.
5. You can fear all the attackers and have just enough time to untie Flynn before they come back.
6. Flynn can be beaten unconscious, but stays at 1 hp until you finish the fight.

7. Prot paladins have it so easy on this quest. (Yeah, my first toon to do this quest was an undergeared prot pally)

Did this as a Sub Rogue, level 42 (post level squish Oct 2020).

I struggled with this as I usually pal around with my friendly Paladin (Dearest Hubby) and this threw me for a curve!

After attempting it twice (and abandoning quest and repicking it up), and all my gear losing all durability, HS back to Stormwind, got all the elixirs, potions and gubbins... upgraded gear, my friendly Pally enchanted it for me and off I went again. Lifestealing and Mending on Daggers, and as much stuff as possible (versatility, haste, CS) on everthing possible.

Determined.

1 Battle elixir, and 1 guardian elixir, (can't remember which ones now but make sure you've got them plus you've eaten something to boost you a bit). And if you're roguey put poisons on your weapons.

Stealthed and attacked the first azorite barrel that's on the side that just has 1 mob loitering. Got that to near blowing up then tagged the solitary mob plus the two thugs attacking Flynn. Hit the barrel and it exploded killing all three. Yay.. go me...

By this point I'm being shot by one of the other two mobs left. And Died.

Res'd outside the arena, ate something, reapplied elixirs, eating boost and off we go again. Stealthed. Attacked the barrel... this time left the barrel for later and killed the two mobs that were left in the usual manner ;)

The next group of goon arrived.... who killed me almost immediately... either that or the cannons. TIP if you see the red circle on the ground or the thing over your head run - just run.

Res'd... reapplied elixirs etc and off we go again... but this time was able to kite one of the mobs back and killed him alone - easy. Did the same to the other two - threw something at him and got him to come to me, killed him then went to get the other one. Despatched him and when the last three mobs came in went to the barrel - but the barrel had all its health again so couldn't use it without getting killed myself.

Did the same for the last three mobs.... and was feeling well pleased with myself when the timer ran out and I had ONE LAST MOB TO KILL and then got picked up by Galeheart..... One mob left! Gah!

You just have to do it. Make use of sap, blind, shadowstep if you're taking them all on at once (do not recommend!). Save Vanish for when you absolutely have to. Potions again - save for when you absolutely have to so not in first two rounds!

It's doable. But blooming nora... that was hard!

I've been playing WOW for over 12 years... very much casual gaming though... and never got a character to end game. BUT, we'd both said how easy things seemed this days, and missed "the old days". Haven't really used potions or boosts very much at all.... and then the prepatch came out and it's like playing rogues "properly" again. Loved it. So yes hard, but it means you have to use your brain a bit and think how your character works and use it's abilities to the best of the situation.

For what it is worth:
I died during the last wave.
The quest was "completed," I resurrected in 4 secs but Flynn was dead and there was no griffin to take me away.

I probably spent 5 mins or so walking around trying to re-trigger the event.

I went out of the ring, and exited the game,
I logged back in, and walked into the ring and the event re-started.
It was easy peasey.
Flynn lived, and we flew away. You will get the second Griffen.

When you see the red swirls on the ground get out of them but stay close to them to kite the waves into them.
I used far less fire power the second time around.

I am a clothy, lvl 50.
My waves were one, two and three npcs.

"fairwinds friends" seems to be broken. Neither the quest giver nor the turn in show the rewards in their respective dialogs. Too bad, they're nice rewards.

Description

Someone must have recognized Flynn and ratted him out! A bunch of Irontide thugs dragged him off to the Ring of Booty for a "special audience" with Captain Harlan Sweete. Flynn doesn't like to talk about this, but he used to captain his own crew. With Harlan as his First Mate. The two had a falling out after a messy job and Flynn lost all taste for freebooting. Just disappeared one day. Harlan took the nastiest of the crew and formed the Irontide Raiders. In other words; it's personal.
