The quest is well marked on the minimap and is easily soloed (as a Ilvl 858 retripala).
Its an mechanical elite with 10 392 in hp.

Arm of the Magistrix it's an elite mechanical guard located at 47.6 49.4 point. Guard has 10+ mil hp and can cast desintegrate spell. If you can tank some damage well (or awesome burst damage) you can easy solo it, just avoid the beam.

Only took about 20 seconds on my iLevel 853 BM hunter. I expected a little more of a fight, as the quest said it's recommended for 3 players. So don't stress about going solo, pop a few CDs and you should be sweet.

despite handing the quest in to Thalyssra at the army camp, you have to go see her at Shal'Aran to pick up the next quest and nothing in game tells you this

Easily soloable at ilvl 850+, even by clothies, especially if you have a stun. Just mitigate damage throughout and save bigger CDs for the slight enrage at the end.

Popped into Blood spec on my DK just to be on the safe side & it took about 1 min to wipe solo (871 ilvl). Def not a 3 player target.

IDK, is it just me or has directions changed in the world of Azeroth? I've done this quest both as Horde and Alliance and each says, "The scouts have spotted it in the Crimson Thicket to the north. We cannot allow it to reach full power if we are to succeed."

Now, looking on my map, the Crimson Thicket, and the quest marker are almost due west of my current location (standing in the camp next to First Arcanist Thalyssra). I'm wondering, how is the Crimson Thicket north of us? Unless she was meaning north of Suramar City, but then practically everything is.

So I've done every prequest in this line and i cant pick it up, Thalyssra dont have it in Shal'Aran or in the camp next to Khadgar and the others. Where the hell do i find it? ive been at this for hours and I'm losing my mind.

This quest has a remarkable number of requirement quests to unlock it, more than you'd think. For me it was the "Nullified" and "Shield, Meet Spell" quests that were blocking me; I'd never even seen them nor met Magus Sendath, the quest giver.

As of 11/19/2020 (during the worst pre-patch event in the history of the game), you can now find Thalyssra with the others at camp (40 53) instead of having to go to Shalaran.

9.0.5. Horde
Had to complete Nullified and Shield Meet Spell from Magus Sendath as well as Crystal Clearing and Powering Down the Portal from Sentinel Moonshade to be able to pick this up.
Crystal Clearing and Powering Down the Portal are marked as alliance but i could still do them as horde, would guess this is the same around for Nullified and Shield Meet Spell if you're playing alliance.

The Thalryssa that gives out this quest in located under a tent in the encampment outside of Suramar City at 40.46, 52.55. And I did do all the quests, both horde and alliance. Then back to the cave.

Description

The insurgents you marshaled gave me some bad news, <name>.

The arcanists loyal to Elisande have reactivated the Arm of the Magistrix. The most powerful construct ever attempted, it raged out of control and decimated an entire district before it was disabled. Truly they must be desperate to turn it against us.

The scouts have spotted it in the Crimson Thicket to the north. We cannot allow it to reach full power if we are to succeed.
