I tried several strats and this was the one that worked on the first try:

Zandalari Anklerender - S/S - 2,1,2
Direhorn Runt - H/H or H/S - 1,2,2
Infested Bear Cub - 1,2,2

vs. Comet
Black Claw, Hunting Party, then Leap which should kill Comet. Black claw until your Anklerender dies.
Bring in your Infested Bear and cast hibernate. Cosmo will automatically swap to your Direhorn Runt.

vs. Cosmo
Stampede, Trihorn Charge. Swap to Infested Bear Cub when Constellatius comes out.

vs. Constellatius
Hibernate on cooldown. Pass all other rounds

As difficult as this battle first seems, just two pets are needed:

Flayer Youngling (S/S) 1/2/1

Emerald Proto Whelp (P/P) 1/1/2

The first battle requires the most strategy; open with Kick, then use Blitz, Blitz, Deflection. The aim from here is to keep Kick on cooldown at all times, and avoid being hit with flamethrower at all costs as this will cause the most damage.

For the bunny, just use blitz until you are forced to swop (you should be auto-swopped to your proto-whelp). From here, use Ancient Blessing, Emerald Dream & attack in between - making sure to keep your healing abilities on cooldown at all times.

When the Bunny drops, simply repeat this strategy for the final pet (or just pass your attacks) as he will eventually kill himself - you just need to outheal his relatively low damage.

For security, use a second Emerald Proto Whelp as the third pet just in case the Bunny gets lucky with crits & you need the backup.

Ashamed it needs to be said, but the Algalon you need to battle is not inside the instance. He's located at the bottom of the stairs leading up to the entrance of Ulduar. Don't fly right by him like I did.

Nothing special about the breeds. SS would be best on Kneebiter but not necessary. Can swap out Servitor for another mechanical with high HP.

- Comet
My kneebiter could never kill Comet but the Black Party combo gets him low.
After that with my whelp I used Breath twice to kill Comet before healing.

-Cosmo
Dream first to stabilize and then heal and deal damage accordingly. Cosmo should not be able to deal damage to kill you through the 2 heals unless you go too low. If your pets get swapped just use Repair on other pet and afterwards swap back to Emerald Proto-Whelp and repeat until Cosmo dies.

-Constellatus
Use your 2 healing abilities and pass.

It's worth highlighting that when you get to his last pet Constellatius the name of the game is only to survive for 15 rounds until Apocalypse hits which kills Constellatius and you win!

I didn't pay attention to Apocalypse and needlessly forfeited a bunch of matches when it was clear I wasn't going to be able to kill Constellatius before he used Wish again.

It took about 30 battles to finally defeat this team. I have to think that they boosted Comet's attacks. I did the following team.

Zandalari Kneebiter - P/S - 2,2,1
Emerald Proto Whelp - P/P - 1,1,2
Chi-Chi, Hatchling of Chi-Ji - P/S - 2,1,1

The opponent team is
Comet - Dragonkin
Cosmo - Magic
Constellatius - Magic

The key to this fight is Survival. I tried a number of pets against Comet, but it would easily defeat anything I put there. The Zandalari pets all get Comet below 300 before they die. Survival comes in because Constellatius will use Apocolypse. So you need two surviving pets when Cosmo dies and Constellatius comes up. The first two opponents do damage to your back end pets. But Constellatius does not.

Starting with your Zandalari pet; Black claw, Hunting Party, then the Zandalari pet dies. Bring in the Emerald Proto Whelp and hope he finishes off Comet in one round. If Comet gets two hits then the Proto Whelp may be too damaged to recover while Cosmo attacks. Rotate between Emerald Dream, Ancient Blessing, and Breath and eventually Cosmo dies. The Proto Whelp should be almost full health and the last pet maybe about half. Finish off Constellatius by continuing the rotation and after 15 rounds Apocolypse hits and both the Proto Whelp and Constellatius die. You win as your last pet survives.

Took a few tries, but I figured out a strat that worked for me.

Zandalari Anklerender - any speed - (2,2,2)
Direhorn Runt - (1,2,2,)
Son of Sethe - (2,2,1)

Zandalari Anklerender opens
Primal Cry
Black Claw
Hunting Party (continues till death)
Zandalari Anklerender dies during hunting party
Swap in Direhorn Runt
Trihorn Charge
Comet dies, Cosmos comes out
Trihorn shield
Cosmos swaps in Son of Sethe
Use touch of the animus, plagued blood, and drain blood on cooldown to keep Son of Sethe alive
Make sure Cosmos has plagued blood and/or touch of the animus debuff when Direhorn Runt is forcibly swapped in
Cosmos swaps in Direhorn Runt
Stampede (Due to the debuffs on Cosmos this heals Direhorn Runt for a massive amount)
Trihorn charge/stampede until Cosmos is dead.
Constellatius comes in
Swap in Son of Sethe
Son of sethe is undead type, meaning Constellatius' only damage attack is weak against it
You can easily keep Son of Sethe alive using his 3 heal abilities until apocalypse triggers, killing both pets, reanimating Son of Sethe, and winning the battle.

Macabre Marionette - (1/2/1)
Emerald Proto-Whelp - (1/1/2)
Infested Bear Cub - (1/2/2)

Macabre Marionette - Siphon Life, Dead Man's Party, and then Macabre Maraca twice to finish off Comet.

If Comet kills you before you can get your second Macabre Maraca off, restart the fight.

Comet dies, Macabre Marionette dies. Swap to Emerald Proto-Whelp, Algalon swaps to Cosmos.

Emerald Proto-Whelp - Emerald Dream, Ancient Blessing.
These two healing abilities should always be on cooldown. Breath in between until Cosmos dies.

Cosmos dies, Emerald Proto-Whelp should still be alive, Algalon swaps to Constellatius

Now, u can heal up your Emerald Proto-whelp or simply swap to Infested Bear Cub.

Infested Bear Cub - Use Hibernate on cooldown and just pass your turn until Constellatius kills all active pets with Apocalypse. Or spam ability if you feel silly passing your turn.

At the end, bear is dead and your Emerald proto-whelp alive and well. All thanks to Thannya on the other page for this quest.

A: Nope! Wonderfully, the pet battle Algalon is a separate NPC from the raid boss Algalon & can be found outside the raid at 41.51, 24.37. (If the raid portal is at your back, Algalon should be due south - map.)

Q: How do I see / fight / access Algalon the Observer <Celestial Pet Tamer>?
A: You need to be on the quest A Celestial Invitation. Once accepted, the quest is account-wide (patch 7.1.0).

Q: Can I fight Algalon the Observer <Celestial Pet Tamer> more than once?
A: No, it does not appear so.

Q: How do I get the quest A Celestial Invitation?
A: You will receive Celestial Invitation in the mail on whichever character got the final pet from Raiding with Leashes IV: Wrath of the Lick King.

Q: How do I achieve Raiding with Leashes IV: Wrath of the Lick King?

A: No. The achievement numbering only tells you in which order the achievements were released in the game, not the order in which they need to be completed.

A: Unlike previous iterations of Raiding with Leashes (I, II, & III), where the final pet was awarded as soon as the achievement was completed, you will not receive Stardust (teaches: Stardust) until the achievement and quest are complete.

A: Al's team will consist of the following legendary creatures:

1. Comet	dragonkin	Roar	Cosmic Smash	Flamethrower	vs. Comet Hard-hitting, has DoTs and AoE. Strat: burn asap or mitigate attacks.
2. Cosmos	magic	Starfall	Phase Punch	Arcane Blast	vs. Cosmos Forces pet swaps, has AoE and minor heal. Strat: heal 1st, dps 2nd.
3. Constellatius	magic	Apocalypse	Wish	Tail Sweep	vs. Constellatius 50% HP heal every 5 rounds + decent attack + Apocalypse. Strat: survive 15 rounds.
All of Algalon's pets also have the passive buff: Elite

xelihope has a strat with Zandalari Anklerender (2, 2, 2) | Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling (1, any, 2) | Grotesque (2, 2, 1) that seems to work regardless of specifying any pet breeds AND with all AH-available purchases. Link here.
If you have a S/S Flayer Youngling (1,2,1) and an Emerald Proto-Whelp (1,1,2), I suggest using Taygete's strategy here.
- OP used a 2nd EPW (1,1,2) as backup, but an undead with strong heals would also work, ex. Son of Sethe (1,2,1) & Infested Bear Cub (2,2,1).
Perks N Peeves (link - to blog, not wowhead) originated the Macabre Marionette (1,2,1) + Emerald Proto-Whelp (1,1,2) + Infested Bear Cub (1,2,2) strategy - transcribed by lovesgum here.
Another strong option for slot 1 is S/S Zandalari Anklerender (2,1,2) OR equivalent S/S Zandalari Kneebiter (2,2,1) - outline by nirv (here).

You can defeat Algalon with tradeable pets, which you can buy on the AH or borrow from a friend. A lot of people use tactics that involve catching a specific breed, but this isn't necessary!

The pets
Macabre Marionette 1-2-1
Fiendish Imp 1-1-1 (I used P/S build, but it shouldn't matter)
Magical Crawdad 1-1-2

Comet: Marionnete will take out the dragon solo. Siphon Life, Dead Man's Party, Macabre Maraca x2. Both these pets should die at the same time. If he crits you, you'll die before getting off the second Maraca, so forfeit and restart.

Cosmos: Switch in your Imp. Rush, Immolation. At this point, the bunny will force your Crawdad into battle. Imp will heal passively every round while he's not active. Wish, Renewing Mists, Snap. Your wish should be on cooldown for 3 more rounds, and you should have over ~1100 health remaining. Switch to Imp, rinse and repeat until bunny is dead: Rush, Immolation, Wish, Renewing Mists, Snap, switch.

Constellatius: Both your pets should be healthy, and you just have to outlast 15 rounds until Apocalypse lands. If Imp is active, switch to Crawdad. Wish, Renewing Mists, and Claw or Pass until Apocalypse squishes your Crab and the Imp claims victory.

This is what I used:

Unborn Val'kyr - first talent doesn't matter. You want Curse of Doom and Haunt.
Spring Rabbit - Any rabbit will do so long as it has Flurry, Dodge and Stampede.
Emerald Proto-Whlelp - Breath, Ancient Blessing and Emerald Dream.

With the Val'kyr put up Curse of Doom and then Haunt right away, swap in the Rabbit. Use Dodge and then Stampede. Comet should die with your rabbit still on half(ish) health. Your rabbit should then debuff Cosmos with Stampede before he's swapped. Your Val'kyr will be automatically swapped in it's place, so swap in the Proto-Whelp. Use Emerald Dream first, followed by a breath. Again, your Val'kyr will be swapped in it's place. Just like the start, put up Curse of Doom and Haunt. At this point your Val'kyr will be really low health, but it's fine. Bring in the rabbit again. Use Dodge, and then Stampede so Cosmos is debuffed. Your rabbit will die during it but the stampede debuff is what is important!
Bring your Whelp in and breath Cosmos who should die.

At this point it's just a matter of keeping your Proto-Whelp alive. You really don't need to bother weaving in breaths between using Ancient Blessing and Emerald Dream. The Apocalypse spell will kill you both in 15 rounds but you'll have your Val'kyr up at the back to ensure the win for you.

You do not have to go into the raid to get to him. From New Dalaran, take the portal to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, Pandaria. Then go to the portal room and take the portal to Old Dalaran. Then:

Hopling: Crush,Posion lash,Backflip. Backflip on cd to keep Comet from useing roar.
Emerald Proto-Whelp: Breath, Ancient Blessing,Emerald Dream. heals on CD unless buffed to kill Cosmo.

Then bring any other mechanical pet incase Apocalypse hits. I actually had Cinder pup as my third pet thinking i had to fight Constellatius but the Whelp did all the work :)

I had to mix some of the recommendations from the comments in here to finally find a suitable combo for my collection, consisting of:

I don't remember the exact sequence, but you will want to end up with Son of Sethe vs. Constellatius, as it's guaranteed to survive the 15 rounds of Apocalypse, since it can heal to full each round. I had Son of Animus as backup with no deaths, just in case, which only used Extra Plating and Siphon Anima while it was active.

Took me a few attempts, however the general idea of the fight is: Defeat dragon and first magic pet, outheal last enemy with emerald proto drake while also keeping one of your other two pets alive to win, as your proto drake will be killed by apocalypse eventually.

I used two humanoid pets, Sunborn Val'ky and Anubisath Idol to kill the dragon, one of the two humanoid pets will die (Val'kyr in my case), which doesn't matter. It is possible to defeat the last two pets with proto drake alone, although Cosmos can be tricky, if it crits you basically have to forfeit. Use heal when it's spamming Arcane Blast, breath during the Moonlight round and right after getting a the last big dream heal yourself. You can cheese Cosmos' Phase Punch (forced pet swap) with your proto drakes Emerald Dream, I'm not sure if it's intended or just a lucky bug, however no swap while happen while dreaming. Their cooldowns happen to align perfectly ;)

There are likely better setups, but I just don't have some of the pets mentioned in the comments here, so I had to improvise a little.

Emerald Proto Whelp (1/1/2)
Grotesque (2/2/1)

Start with Weebomination.
Use Death Grip on Comet.
Cosmos Enters.
Swap to Emerald Proto Whelp.
Cast Breath, Ancient Blessing, Breath, Emerald Dream.
Then Ancient Blessing and Emerald Dream on CD with Breath as filler.
Cosmos dies.
Comet Enters.
Swap to Weebomination.
Use Death Grip on Comet.
Constellatius enters.
Swap to Grotesque.
Pass until health gets to around 600 then cast Stoneform.
When Apocalypse gets to 3 rounds swap to Weebomination.
Use Death Grip on Constellatius.
Comet Enters.
Pass then Apocalypse kills Comet.
Constellatius enters.
Pass until Weebomination dies.
Send in Grotesque.
Pass until Grotesque hits 600 Health.
Cast Stoneform.
Eventually Constellatius will die from Apocalypse.
You win.

Using a roach or beetle is another key to winning this battle.

I used a Fire-Proof Roach with Survival as my third pet. Roaches survives apocalypse, so as long as it's not killed in the battle, it will survive the last round.

Super retarded that you can collect all the pets without having pet battling, but can't collect Stardust without pet battling Algalon. I think pet battling is dumb and unnecessary, but it's fine if other people want to do it, it's just not for me.

Kinda dumb to be forced into it, having never been made to pet battle before.

The quest item will just stay in my bank until they possibly rethink it in future.

Grotesque (shadow shock, agony, stone form)

Zandalari: 2 => 3 => 1 => (zandalari dead)
Grotesque: 1 => (first pet dead)
Grotesque: 2 => GET SWAPPED
MPD: 3 => spam 1 => GET SWAPPED
Grotesque: 2 => 3 => 2? => GET SWAPPED
MPD: 3 => spam 1 => (second pet dead, possible dragonling too, finish off quickly with grotesque if that's the case)
Grotesque: 3 when below 1300 health => (third pet dead to apocalypse)

This team's win seemed very solid as each MPD and Grotesque received multiple crits and delivered no crits.

Just did this, finally!
My team was as follows:

Zandalari Anklerender - hunting party, primal cry, black claw
Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling - Breath, Bombing Run, Explode
Son of Sethe - Absorb, Touch of the Animus, Drain Blood

Anklerender goes: Primal Cry, Black Claw, hunting party. Comet should be super low.
I brought in Son of Sethe to heal that little bit from that party-wide attack. in the Comet kill
Son of Sethe applies Touch of the Animus to Cosmos before Cosmos switches him out for the Dragonling.
Dragonling throws Bombing run, Breath until first death, then explode when he does his fail safe.
Cosmos should be either dead or low enough for Sethe to kill.
Sethe vs Constellarius - Constellarius throws apocalypse. Sethe rotates Touch of the Animus / Drain Blood / Absorb until Apocalypse.
Boom done!

I don't have an Emerald Proto-Whelp, and neither my Dream Whelpling nor my Emerald Whelpling were surviving Cosmos anyways. Decided to play around with a few things, and I think I may have a nearly fail-proof strategy for this now, as long as you have the H/H breed of Unborn Val'kyr. (I didn’t test it with a B/B, so I make no assumptions about that – try at your own discretion. It may still work.) Cosmos gave Magical Crawdad 2 nasty crits in a row right out of the gate, and it still managed to survive. I spent a LOT of time failing this battle either because of Cosmos's crit RNG on some of the previous pet strategies or because I didn't have the right pets for other strategies. It’s long, but hopefully this will save someone else the RNG headache as well.

**Until you get to Constellatius, pay special attention to the move order. You’re going to put Renewing Mists back up before it falls off once, so that you have enough turns of it remaining to heal Unborn Val’kyr when the following swap occurs. The “early” Renewing Mist is not a mistake or an oversight, it’s part of the strategy.

***If you don’t have a Snowfeather Hatchling, you can probably use any other defense-break pet that can survive the three rounds until Comet is dead. Just make sure you’re using the defense-break on round 4 and 5. The Predatory Strike opener at the beginning of Cosmos is really just filler. If whatever pet you sub for Snowfeather Hatchling dies in turn 5, bring in Magical Crawdad, cast Renewing Mists in turn 6, and continue as normal when Unborn Val’kyr gets swapped in in turn 7. I did NOT test this, but it should work just fine, barring an extremely unlucky set of crits in rounds 6, 8, 9, and 10. If that happens, try again. Magical Crawdad should be able to handle 2 crits in those four turns and still make it, and it’s extremely unlikely Cosmos would get crits three+ times out of those four turns in subsequent attempts.

In the following Battle Slot Order:

I tried multiple combos listed above, but what finally worked for me was this.

Unborn Valkyrie
Emerald Proto Whelp
Zandalari Kneebiter (this could really be anything almost, it didn't even kill the first pet)

Open with UV, and HAUNT immediately
Use your ZK (or other pet) to chip away at the dragon's health. Swap in your EPW when it dies.
Use breath to kill the dragon and bunny, always using ancient blessing and emerald dream on cooldown. It takes a while, but you will win by attrition. :) This way, you keep your UV on the backline to guarantee you the win after apocalypse goes off.

After trying several teams i ended up with the following in 7.3.5

Unborn Val'kyr 2-2-1
Emerald Proto-Whelp 1-1-2
Zandalari Kneebiter 2-2-2

Fight against Comet:
Unborn Val'kyr -> Haunt
Zandalari Kneebiter -> Black claw -> Hunting party. Your Zandalari Kneebiter will die.
Emerald Proto-Whelp -> Breath and Comet dies.

Fight against Cosmos:
Emerald Proto-Whelp -> Emerald dream -> Ancient Blessing -> Breath -> Breath. Repeat starting with Emerald dream till Cosmos dies.
Don't worry, this fight will take time but he will die at the end.
Good to know, the moment Cosmos uses celestial blessing your pet will not be swapped because your pet is in Emerald dream.

Fight against Constellatius:
Emerald Proto-Whelp -> Emerald dream -> Breath -> Ancient Blessing -> Breath.
Repeat all starting from Emerald dream one more time. I swapped after Ancient Blessing to Unborn Val'kyr . Use whatever you can and keep her alive to soak the Apocalypse. Gz you won :)

Btw i think we earned an achievement after this fight and not only pet :)

I tried several strats and this was the one that worked on the first try:

Direhorn Runt - H/H or H/S - 1,2,2
Infested Bear Cub - 1,2,2

vs. Comet
Black Claw, Hunting Party, then Leap which should kill Comet. Black claw until your Anklerender dies.
Bring in your Infested Bear and cast hibernate. Cosmo will automatically swap to your Direhorn Runt.

vs. Cosmo
Stampede, Trihorn Charge. Swap to Infested Bear Cub when Constellatius comes out.

vs. Constellatius
Hibernate on cooldown. Pass all other rounds

Killed his first pet with the Anklerender (Primal Cry - Black Claw - Hunting Party) plus one attack from the 2nd pet.
Let the 2nd pet get as little damage as possible, always swapping in the Proto-Whelp everytime he swaps in your 2nd pet, it will get some aoe damage anyway.
Slowly whittle away his 2nd pets health with your whelp but be careful to keep the whelp alive.
Once he is down to his last pet he will use Apocalypse. Just keep you whelp alive until this runs out and hopefully you still have your 2nd pet alive to win.

This was pain .... I didn't have Zandalari Kneebiter or Zandalari Anklerender with enough high power, so I lost all the time. I tried different variants from here and from YouTube - nothing worked for me. I think I tried them about 20-30 times. Then I discovered this video from YouTube and it's worked for me for the first time. Maybe it's helping you also.
I had Zandalari Kneebiter (2/2/1) with 305 power 1237 health
Blood Boil (2/2/1) with 260 power and 1725 health
Son of Sethe (1/2/1) with 338 power and 1319 health

Second enemy joins the fight
My tip for this is to hit it with Breath when your hp is high,when your hp is lower than 50% use Ancient Blessing and after that always use Emerald Dream and repeat that until it dies.Keep in mind that in second pet's round 3 it swaps your pet so make sure you swap it back ASAP.When second pet dies,immediately swap to your Nightmare Whelpling.
Third enemy pet comes up.
Now you have to drag the fight to fatigue,because the first ability the third enemy pet casts is a 15-round dispell that after it expires it kills the enemy pet.
Second ability it casts is a big heal that occurs in the next round and heals it for 50% of its total health.With your nightmare whelpling use Call Darkness and Nightmare and hit it until your Nightmare Whelpling dies.After that bring back your Emerald Proto-Whelp and repeat the Breath-Ancient Blessing and Emerald Dream whenever they are available.Repeat this combo until the 15 rounds expire,or until you kill it.Good luck with your Pet Battle and enjoy your Stardust pet.

I swapped him with Barnaby

Strategy slightly changed:
Start with Barnaby
Use Roar of the dead
then Haymaker

If haymaker misses, restart. if it lands than it will kill Comet with a single strike. Guaranteed.

After Comet is gone, you can sacrifice Barnaby, but his last ability should be Roar of the dead, you can combo it with Valkyr's Curse of Doom or the Emerald Proto Drake's Breath.
Beware of Cosmos' Phase punch, if your proto drake was swapped do not start with attack because it can kill you in 2 rounds if you do not have a full health.

Warning: slowest strat ever. My Val'kyr and Emerald Whelpling were not succeeding here. No matter how many different ways I varied things.

So I started looking through mechs for one with extra plating AND repair. Lo and behold, the Rabid Nut Varmint 5000. I even had two of them at 25. I was lucky enough to have a super speed Zandalari Anklerender, so that took care of the first fight every time.

Then picked Varmint with highest health. Cosmos: Swap and attacks and aoe heal. Me: 1) Plating. 2) Repair. 3) Metal Fist. Net damage: usually none to my pets, and something tiny to him: 30 maybe? Took forever, but finally got him down and then Apocalypse guy was ez mode with two full health mechs. If anyone else is ever crazy enough to try this strat, make sure your team is doing some damage and not just breaking even.

The other guides and tactics didn't quite work for me, so I made my own. Gonna try to explain how it was done:

Unborn Val'kyr

Direbeak Hatchling comes in:
Ironskin
Falcosaur Swam!

Now here comes the important!
Direbeak Hatchling will get swapped out, and that is the last time you will use him.

Unborn Val'kyr comes in:
Curse of Doom
Shadow Shock
Shadow Shock
Shadow Shock
Until Unborn Val'kyr dies... (If for some reason your Direbeak Hatchling died, restart...)

Emerald Proto-Whelp comes in:
Emerald Dream
Breath / Ancient Blessing (depends ony our HP. If you got full or almost full hp do Breath)
2nd pet should die.

3rd pet will use armageddon, and this really means you have won already.
The point now is to heal, breath, heal, breath, heal, breath until Armageddon launches and hits the pets in the playing field. Both pet dies, but Direbeak Hatchling lives...and you have won! Congratulations!

Took a bit of time, but got him down with the following after 37 rounds:

Unborn Val'kyr (H/H) (x, 2, 1)
Macabre Marionette (P/H) (x, x, 1)
Naxxy (H/H) (2, x, 2)

Went through a few tries with other 3rd-slot pets to find one that could heal through Constellatius' Tail Sweep; with Naxxy's undead mitigation from the dragonkin ability and his excellent self-healing, he was able to withstand the rounds until Apocalypse triggered.

Start off with Curse of Doom followed by Haunt
(Bring in Macabre Marionette)
Dead Man's Party until dead-dead
(Comet will die. Depending on RNG, you should get 1-3 DMsP hits on Cosmos)
(Bring in Naxxy)
(Doesn't matter which ability you choose, Cosmos will switch pet out with Unborn Val'kyr)
Shadow Slash/Shock until Unborn Val'kyr is dead-dead
Naxxy comes in to mop up (I killed Cosmos on round 21)
***Keep Drain Blood on cooldown and spam Death Coil***
Apocalypse will crash and kill both pets. Naxxy enters Undead phase and wins.

1. Start with Anklerender: Primal Cry / Black Claw / Hunting Party (Anklerender dies, but Opponent is almost dead). Bring out Emerald Proto-Whelp
2. Emerald Proto-Whelp: Breath immediately and finish off Opponent. Comet dies and Bunny comes out. Cast Emerald Dream first and once it ends
use the following rotation repeatedly, without deviating, until you win the battle or your proto-whelp dies. Breath / Ancient Blessing / Breath / Dream
Breath / Ancient Blessing / Breath / Dream...Using Dream will prevent the Bunny from swapping your pets so stick to the rotation. For me, proto-whelp was alive until the meteor hit, but if your proto-whelp dies:
3. Pandaren Dragonling comes out: Cast Decoy followed by whatever you want until the meteor hits.

If you are like me and do not have a level 25 Anklerender, it is relatively easy to level. For that, I went to my Draenor garrison, put on my safari hat, consumed a pet treat to boost experience gain, and then made sure my Halloween decorations were up in my garrison so that battle pets spawned in my garrison. This is a super easy place to battle since there are a plethora of spawns and you can heal your pets as needed right in your garrison menagerie. I started each battle with Anklerender, cast one ability, and then swapped out immediately so that Anklrender didn't die. It's easy to then defeat the garrison pets with two other level 25's or even one level 25 (like Iron Starlette) and one other moderate-level pet (e.g., level 18) if you want to level two pets at the same time. When my Anklerender reached level 12, I accepted the pet battling quest from the menagerie in my garrison and went out to battle grand master pet tamer Ashlei in Shadowmoon Valley. You can start with your Anklerender, cast one ability, and then use Lil' Bling to solo the rest. I leveled up to 25 from just that battle and using pet experience boosts.

Second option to level Anklrender: Pick up the garrison menagerie quest, go to grand master pet tamer Ashlei in Shadowmoon Valley, and use any pet experience boosts that you can (e.g., safari hat, treats). Start the battle using Lil' Bling. Kill the first pet that comes out. Attack the second pet (Doodle), but make sure not to kill it. Doodle, like the Elekk Plushie, does not do any damage to you. Doodle will switch out after 2 rounds. Kill the third pet when it comes out. Doodle comes back out. Swap in your leveling pet(s) such as Anklerender. You can either kill Doodle with your leveling pet(s) since Doodle doesn't do any damage or get in a hit with your leveling pet(s) and then swap back to Lil' Bling to finish Doodle off faster. If you are using this strategy and you're starting your leveling pet at level 1, it will take more than one day to get to level 25. That's why I started leveling in my garrison first. Good luck!

I started with Primal Cry, Black Claw, and then Hunting Party until Zandalari died during Cosmos.
Swapped to Emerald Proto-Whelp. I kept Emerald Proto-Whelp alive through it all by casting Emerald Dream, Ancient Blessing, and Breath.
Repeat. It was very slow but I got it.

I never had to bring out the infected squirrel.

I beat this with Zand Ankle x2 and Lil' Bling.

Open with Primal on Comet, then do the classic black claw + flock (comet has to die to your first Ankle)

Comet and 1st Ankle is dead, 1 turn of primal should remain. Cosmos enter and your 2nd Ankle, open with Primal then the classic claw+flock.

Cosmos kick your ankle out and in comes Bling, use make it rain and inflation if you have to, Cosmos should die.

Constellation comes in, use rain into inflation, lil bling dies, swap in your ankle and use claw+flock, your 2nd ankle SHOULD HAVE 500+ HP this last round.

Here's a working strategy for 9.0:
-Lead with Zandalari Anklerender

-Hunting Party until your Zandalari Anklerender dies.
-Bring in Emerald Proto Whelp
-Breath
-Comet dies, Cosmos comes in
Follow this exact rotation for the rest of the battle:
-Emerald Dream
-Breath
-Ancient Blessing
-Breath
-Start the rotation again with Emerald Dream

With this strategy the Emerald Proto Whelp should be able to take down the last two pets; Cosmos through damage and Constellatius through stall (it dies to it's own Apocalypse). Keep a Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling as 3rd pet in case your Proto Whelp dies to RNG crits, that way you can Decoy and pass turns until Apocalypse kills Constellatius.
It is very important that you do not change anything in the Emerald Proto Whelp's rotation, Emerald Dream will prevent the bunny from swapping you around.

couldn't get any of the strats for a celestial invitation to work and I didn't have a son of sethe. Here's what I used. Chitterspine skitterling 2,2,2 Scabby 1,2,1 Infested Bear Cub 1,2,1

2-4 swarm

Cosmos kills skitterling and swaps to Scabby for you
7 Rabid Strike

basically continue this until Scabby dies just make sure you hibernate before he casts the phase whatever that swaps you out
Bring in infested bear cub
hibernate on cool down and use your other abilities to take down cosmos
from here on out just use hibernate on CD and wait for the apoc to hit...you win because you are an UD pet.
Chitterspine was s/s it's the only way to make sure he kills the first pet with no backline support

I then used #3 Early Advantage (you need less hp than Cosmos, that's definitely going to be the case), but I think #1 Tail sweep would have been fine also. both hit this guy hard.
Another Tail sweep if you need. Infinite Whelpling should be alive.
Swap back to Proto-Whelp and resume the old rotation.
Apocalypse will eventually kill both and you are left the winner with Infinite Whelpling.

Comet and Cosmos are done pretty much the way described: keep EPW maxed on health, and blast when no heals are out of cooldown. When you get swapped: curse of doom, swap back and pray you have a heal ready that carries you through.

Eventually Apocalypse deals with Constellatius and Val'kyr pops up with ~~Battle Recovery~~ Edit: looking at the log healed the Val'kyr and applied passive, which saved her skin. Couldn't figure out how to post a link to a picture of the Pet Battle Log.

None of these strategies are working in Shadowlands Expansion. My pets are getting crit hit out the gate almost every time (400-550 damage) or regular hits are huge as well (300-380 damage)I cannot get past Cosmos (the rabbit) no matter which combination I use (10 tries). Either this pet hits very hard or it swaps my pets at the most inopportune moments.

Unless I am getting Rick-Rolled by RNG or my pets are just weak as hell, this pet battling is very irritating, time consuming and just not fun at all.

I've noticed that most of my Level 25 Rare pets in my inventory are weak sauce in health. Out of all my 963 pets (no duplicates), I have about 300 that are Level 25 and Rare. Of those, there is only 3 pets that have 1806 health. The rest are between 1575 and 1100 health. I also noticed that these same pets only do 21-275 damage most of the time and rarely crit hit.

So what gives?

This quest was a nightmare in 9.0.2 and I spent the better part of a day trying every published strategy unsuccessfully. Finally caved and spent a couple hours grinding reputation for Son of Sethe and unfortunately this pet is more or less the key to winning in Shadowlands. Here's what finally worked:

1. Chitterspine Skitterling S/S 1/2/2 (I tried every Anklerender Strategy and always failed).
2. Direhorn Runt H/S 1/2/3 (The extra health is absolutely mandatory and is why I made it through by the skin of my teeth).
3. Son of Sethe 2/2/1 (The lynchpin that gets you through Apocalypse)

The Fight:
1. Chitterspine Skitterling starts. Use Black Claw
2. Swarm. Comet dies.
3. Swarm. Chitterspine dies to the swap spell.
4. Direhorn Runt. Use Trihorn Shield.
5. Stampede until swap.
6. Son of Sethe. Touch of Animus -> Drain Blood to get back to full health.
7. Plagued Blood until dead. If you get swapped back to Direhorn Runt Trihorn Charge should kill.
8. If you made it to Constellatius with 50% health on Son of Sethe the match is over. Keep touch of animus and drain blood on cooldown fill with plagued blood. Apocalypse kills you both and you win in the Undead window.

I finally made it. Here are the pets that I used:

STRATEGY:
Do Haymaker. If it hits - continue, otherwise - reset.
Switch to Blackchasm Crawler, poison and then do 1st, 3rd and 1st attack. Usually it's enough to finish Comet and do some damage to Cosmos.
The hardest part is to beat Cosmos and keep Undead and Dragon alive.
I also tried with Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling instead of undead pet and almost did it but it worked better for me with Weebomination. It has a lot of health, strong dragon attack and can heal once later on.

It was very challenging but finishing it was so satisfying! Goodluck and have fun! :D

I used a P,P Zandalari Anklerender and a P,B Emerald Proto-Whelp.

Strategy-
Start with Anklerender

When Anklerender dies swap in Whelp
Breath (Comet dies)→Emerald Dream→Breath→Ancient Blessing→Breath

Son of Animus will get swapped in
Extra Plating→Touch of the Animus→Metal Fist→Metal Fist

Whelp will get swapped in
Use Emerald Breath and Ancient Blessing and just survive.
Weave in a few breaths when you can and wait till swap.
The goal here is to keep your Whelp at as much of a high HP as you can

Son of Animus will get swapped in
Extra Plating→Touch of the Animus→Metal Fist→Metal Fist

Whelp will get swapped in
Breath till Cosmos dies
Just keep your HP topped with Ancient Blessing and Emerald Dream till the meteor hits
Son of Animus probably will still be up and this ordeal will be done.

I wish I could fight him again so I could write this up more accurately, but oh well. Best I can remember, Grotesque killed everything.

Your Kneebiter will die quickly, just make sure that you get Black Claw on and the Armor Break from Hunting Party.

Wicked Soul casts Agony, and Haunt.

Comet dies

Grotesque at this point will have to keep Agony up, and use Stone Form on CD pretty much. Wicked Soul will get swapped back in by Cosmos, but won't live long enough for you to Haunt again, just used what I could, Agony for sure, maybe a Shadow Shock as well.

Grotesque kills Cosmos eventually, after that it's just a war of attrition against Constellatius while you wait for Apocalypse to kill the two of you. Being Undead though you pop right back to life and WIN!

Meriweather found a strategy that works in Shadowlands!

Zandalari Raptor with Black Claw + Hunting Party
Emerald Proto-Whelp with Breath, Ancient Blessing, and Emerald Dream
(maybe) Darkmoon Zeppelin with Decoy... HOWEVER, Meriweather actually recommended your highest health pet with Decoy and for me that was the Alarm-o-bot. My Darkmoon Zeppelin had 1546 HP but my Alarm-o-bot had 1725, and that may have been the key to winning for me because the Alarm-o-bot was BARELY alive at the end.

Short version of their strategy, read the full one at the link above:
Zandalari Raptor: Black Claw + Hunting Party. They say if you don't get any crits, you probably just want to reset. I didn't get any crits during my win, so I think it was the extra HP on my Alarm-o-bot that saved me.

Swap to Emerald Proto-Whelp. Breath until Comet is dead. This was 2 Breaths for me, only 1 for Meriweather.

Once Comos comes out, you use Emerald Dream and then Ancient Blessing. NEVER deviate. Even if you're 100% health. Then fill with Breath until you're forcibly swapped.

After forcibly swapped to the Darkmoon Zeppelin/Alarm-o-bot, use Decoy and then manually swap back to Emerald Proto-Whelp. Resume your Emerald Dream, Ancient Blessing, fill with Breath cycle. If Emerald Dream is available, use it even if you think you're going to get swapped.

This will eventually whittle Comos down to dead. My Alarm-o-bot died in the back line, but since it is Mechanical popped back up.

If Consetellantius comes out and you still have your Darkmoon Zeppelin/Alarm-o-bot alive in the back line, you'll win. Just keep your Emerald Proto-Whelp alive for 15 rounds using the Emerald Dream + Ancient Blessing combo EVERY time they are available. You can fill with Breath, but it won't matter.

What worked for me was Unborn Val'kyr + Pgymy Direhorn (or the more common Direhorn Runt) + Son of Sethe.

Unborn Val'kyr I used Curse of Doom, then Haunt - Algalon's first pet has a huge AoE ability, this negates it partially by being "dead". So Direhorn comes in - use your shield, then stampede. Stampede increases Haunt damage by 100%, so now Algalon's pet has a 200-250 dps dot on it. First pet should be dead after stampede is over, iirc.

Getting past the first pet is the hardest part, second pet wasn't much trouble. Direhorn dies, but Val'kyr comes back to life and gets off 1 or 2 Shadow Shocks with the Stampede buff (so they hit pretty hard), then dies. Son of Sethe finishes off the second pet and can solo the rest of the fight.

The beauty of Son of Sethe on Algalon's 3rd pet (as mentioned a lot here) is, not only is it Undead so it takes reduced damage, but you can survive Apocalypse. This wins you the fight as long as you stay alive until it hits, which is quite easy rotating between Touch of Animus & Drain Life on CD with Plagued Blood as a filler.

I did Zandalari Anklerender (2,2,2), Emerald Proto-Whelp (1,1,2) and Son of Sethe (2,2,1) (I tried literally every other set up here with no luck)
Primal Cry, Black Claw, Hunting Party (he dies)
Comet might have a little left in him. Finish him off while keeping Proto healed up (Alternate with breath, ancient blessing)
The next two are easy, alternate with minor damage ability (Breath or plagued blood) and heals. You will slowly burn through cosmos who will at some point force a switch but just continue strategy of alternating damage and heals with son of sethe. Once you get to Constellatius just keep proto healed up good and you win! Did it today so it does work with new patch.

Made an account just to post this after hours of grinding this battle. This is the team that worked for me first time.

Zandalari Anklerenderer - Black Claw & Hunting party as abilities. 3rd does not matter.
Emerald Proto-Whelp - Breath, Ancient Blessing & Emerald Dream.
Son of Sethe - Plagued Blood, Touch of Animus & Drain blood

(I have bad memory and I struggle to describe things in a lot of depth but bear with me)
COMET
Open with Anklerenderer , use Black Claw followed by Hunting Party. This should have brought Comet down to about 500, anything lower the better. Anklerenderer should still be standing, so use Hunting Party one last time. Anklerenderer should then fall before it ends-- send out Proto-Whelp next and then use Breath. If this does not kill Comet first time, that's okay, heal up with Ancient Blessing if your health drops and then hit him with Breath again.

COSMOS
Have Whelp use use Ancient Blessing and/or Breath until forced to swap. This should then bring out Sethe. Use Touch of Animus, Plagued Blood and then Drain Blood. Generally in that order as it keeps you relatively healed. Keep doing this until you are forced to swap back to Whelp. Cosmos should be low enough that you should be able to keep using Breath to finish him off. That should be Whelps last hurrah before dying.. Let Sethe come out and keep hitting Cosmos with those healing/attack abilities and make sure HE DOES NOT FAINT and use his 1 round rez ability and you should be dandy. For me, generally using his abilities as follows: Touch of Animus > Plagued Blood > Drain Blood worked well for me. This is because ToA and DB have 4/3 round cooldowns respectively and you don't want to use them both after one another and leave yourself with little healing from your third ability. If Sethe is high health (1000+) save Toa and DB for when it's below 800. Rinse and repeat until Cosmos falls.

CONSTELLATIUS
From here it should be easy as pie. By following the same tactic as above with Sethe's ability, you should more than easily survive the 15 rounds until apocalypse hits. When it doea, Sethe should die but because he is Undead, he will rise again whilst Constellatius perishes by his own hand.

This was basically how my fight rolled out and I'm now enjoying my adorable little star bunny. I hope this helps anyone! (At least up until the next patch gets released...)

Zandalari Anklerender ... Primal Cry, Black Claw, Hunting Party ... will die by Comet
Emerald Protodrake Whelp ... Flame (Comet will die), enter Cosmos, Emerald Dream, Flame, Ancient Blessing, Flame, Emerald Dream (if Cosmos manages to swap then Decoy with Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling and swap back to Whelp for Emerald Dream) repeat rotation till Cosmos dies. Enter Constellarius who throws Apocalypse. Repeat above Emerald Dream, Flame, Ancient Blessing, Flame rotation till Apocalypse kills both.
Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling for Decoy only during the Cosmos battle. Dragonling will most likely die during the Cosmos battle but will rez, leaving you with a win in the end.

This strategy worked for me, though it took a few trys to get the Emerald Dream and Decoy swap situation right.

I tried various things, much like everyone here. My winning combination was:

Zandalari Anklerender with Hunting Party, Primal Cry and Black Claw;
Emerald Proto-Whelp with Breath, Ancient Blessing and Emerald Dream; and
Son of Sethe with Plagued Blood, Touch of the Animus, and Drain Blood.

This is the same team as a few other people, like lolabornack and Arishockles, but I couldn't get their specific strategies to work. Here's the thing: Cosmos is the big problem in this fight, but he will do a very specific rotation and will never deviate from it. Specifically, he will do Starlight, Phase Punch, Arcane Blast x3, then repeat. If your EPW is sleeping in Emerald Dream during Phase Punch, your pet will not be swapped. This is vitally important! Cosmos will be faster than your EPW, so if you use Emerald Dream in the same round as Phase Punch, you will be swapped out. As a result, you have to use it on either the Starlight round, on one of the two Arcane Blasts that comes before Starlight. If it's on cooldown when Phase Punch is going to happen, preemptively swap out Son of Sethe and Cosmos will swap EPW back in for you.

For your consideration:

Anklerender uses Primal Cry, Black Claw, and Hunting Party. It'll die here with Comet near death.
EPW comes in and uses Breath. Comet dies. Use Breath again to take advantage of the Dragonkin buff. Cosmos will use Starfall, and on his next turn will use Phase Punch.
You can't use Emerald Dream now; Phase Punch will swap you out. Instead, swap to Son of Sethe, and Cosmos will use Phase Punch to return EPW to battle. Use Emerald Dream to heal to full, then try to get some breath attacks in.

Once you see the timing of the abilities, you should be able to get Emerald Dream to line up with Phase Punch. If not, swap to Son of Sethe after Starfall to make sure that Cosmos swaps EPW back in for you. Looking at my Pet Battle Log, I was able to kill Cosmos with EPW in Round 24. Constellatius killed EPW in Round 33, and Son of Sethe self-healed himself to victory when Apocalypse came down in Round 40.

Im not gonna lie, I have tried several strategies on this page now, and I cant seem to beat this guy. Idk if something has been updated in Shadowlands with this dude but about 5 different teams severals times each still havent worked. Swap timing seems to be off on several comments, Anklerender S/S doesnt seem to do enough damage before he dies...or Im just getting hit with some nasty RNG for about 20 battles...

First out is Unborn Val'kyr that uses Haunt
Then you pick Bonkers and use Going bonkers! then Haymaker

If it misses you get stunned and you have to try the petbattle again untill Bonkers doesnt miss the attack, its 50/50% hit chance

and after this > you use Jab
and when Bonkers dies after he uses Jab > you pick Emerald Proto-Whelp and use Breath> Emerald Dream> Ancient Blessing and you use Breath while Emerald Dream and Ancient Blessing is on cd and you continue to use that on both Cosmos and Constellatius and while this is going on your Unborn Val'kyr are going to get back to life BUT you still continue to use your Emerald Proto-Whelp to try to stay alive for as long as possible.

When your Emerald Proto-Whelp is dead >You use Haunt and you should win if there is only two rounds left until Apocalypse.
Is there more than 2 rounds left until Apocalypse then you have to start over and do all steppes again.

it took me 250+ battles to find a combo that works, all those from this comment section doesnt work and are old, idk if blizzard have done something about it maybe. xD

For those still doing this in 2023, I finally found a variation on the strategies listed here that worked for me. Using an Emerald Proto-Whelp to solo the bunny just didn't work, as the bunny outspeeds you and swaps your pets.

Zandalari Anklerender (2,2,2)
Emerald Proto-Whelp (1,1,2)
Runeforged Servitor (1,1,1)

Start off with Zandalari Anklerender
1) Black Claw
2) Primal Cry to outspeed
3) Hunting Party

Comet might be dead, if he lives with a sliver of health: finish off with a Breath from the Emerald Proto-Whelp

Cosmos is the hard part, every 5th attack he'll swap your two remaining pets. Just focus on keeping your pets alive. Don't rush to get some damage in.

Emerald Proto-Whelp:
- Ancient Blessing -> heal up
- Emerald Dream -> heal up, try to have it line up with his swap attack. it prevents your whelp from being swapped out
- Breath as a filler
Your general rotation will be something like: Emerald Dream, Breath, Ancient Blessing, Breath, repeat

Runeforged Servitor
- Ironskin -> reduce damage
- Repair -> full heal
- Jolt as a filler

Constellatius
Did Cosmos die and are your two pets still alive? Congrats, you're almost there! Constellation will cast Meteor, killing himself and your active pet in 15 turns. So just use the same strategy as above, heal up, stay alive and you'll win eventually. I (narrowly) managed it with the Emerald Proto-Whelp, while the Runeforged Servitor stayed alive and well in the back line.

I used a version of Hazelnutty’s strategy:

Barnaby opened with his second ability (the multiplier) and then Haymaker, which has a 50/50 shot of simply one-shorting the first pet from Algalon.

Then the Emerald Proto-whelp just hit his second ability heal and his third (Emerald Dream) on cool-down, with his first (Breathe) chipping in. It’s a war of attrition.

The emerald Proto-whelp keeps it up against the 3rd pet, who self-destructs after 15 rounds.

The rabbit will force pet changes at time so keep your 3rd pet alive and rotate the emerald proto-whelp back in. Doesn’t matter much who the 3rd pet is but I picked an undead one to be safe.

Anubisath Idol (1.1.1)
Runeforged Servitor (1.1.1)

vs. Comet
Black Claw
Primal Cry
Hunting Party (ZA Died)

Bring out Anubisath Idol
Crush Comet to death.

vs. Cosmos
Round 1: Sand storm
Round 2: Deflection to counter Phase Punch (every 5th round afterwords)
Round 3: Crush

At this point, use Sandstorm on CD and Crush as filler. Save Deflection to counter Phase Punch (this is priority #1). Eventually, Cosmos killed the idol and in comes Runeforged Servitor.

Runeforged Servitor:
Ironskin on CD
Repair on CD
Jolt as filler (Cosmos died after a few rounds)

vs. Constellatius
Constellatius will use Apocalypse and call a meteor which will kill himself after 15 rounds.

Runforged Servitor as stated above:
Ironskin on CD
Repair on CD
Jolt as filler with the priority being staying alive and not triggering Mechanical ability until the Meteor hits.

Tried some of the strategies posted here, but it's 2024 and I think things have changed a bit. I finally beat this with Zandalari Anklerender (2/2/2), Emerald Proto-Whelp (1/1/2), and Son of Sethe (2/2/1).

Zandalari Anklerender starts with Primal Cry, then Black Claw, then Hunting Party where Comet kills the pet.

Next: Emerald Proto-Whelp used Breath to kill Comet. Cosmos comes in and I tried sticking to the Emerald Dream/Breath/Ancient Blessing/Breath technique, but the rabbit kept swapping in my next pet, so the proto-whelp died faster than I'd hoped.

Son of Sethe had to finish off Cosmos and I didn't think I'd make it. Finally Constellatius comes in and I thought I was going to lose for sure. Kept Touch of the Animus and Drain Blood up at all times, and Plagued Blood while they were on cooldown. Constellatius uses Apocalypse. so I just kept going until the meteor dropped. Son of Sethe died, but was resurrected, while Constellatius died and stayed dead. I'm still sitting here looking at the yellow question mark over Algalon's head because I can't believe it's finally over and I won.
