Random drop from Starlight Rose.

Probably took me farming around 400 Starlight Rose after gaining Rank 2 to get this drop.

Obtained this right after completing rank 2, so no other prereqs here, just blind luck.

You do not need to have rank 2 in all other herbs to get this. I only have rank 1 in the others and I got one.

The best advice I can give you is to neglect your character. Bury this if you like but the way I got it was to just stop trying. Log off. Don't log on your character for a day, or even a few. If you log on, don't pick anything.

I can't say for sure that this is an intentional "punish effort" reward, but if not there may be some sort of hidden time-gating involved that'll only let you have it a couple of days after you start farming hard. I farmed for a day straight, didn't get it, gave up, and after a few days logged back on my herbalist and got it from rose #2 I picked. The probability that this would happen for rank 2 and rank 3 is enough to say it wasn't just chance. (And I know how to do P-values.)

Also, save your Starlight Rosedust. You need 20. This is, to my knowledge, the only grey item in the game which is ever actually required for anything.

I've been the main alchemist for my guild since WoD and all through Legion. Can't say how many hundreds of starlight rose I've gathered. I've had rank 2 for a long time. I have yet to get the quest for rank 3. I am despairing -_-

The quest says 5 players but should be soloable for most if you're over 870.

After going the entire expansion without getting this on any herbalist, two different characters picked it up today after about 5 minutes of farming. This coupled with my alchemist getting two rank 3 flask recipes after crafting only 3 flasks of each type makes me think that 8.0 significantly increased the drop rate for the patterns.

Surprisingly, this took no time at all after getting rank 2. Unsure if I'm just lucky, though a few others commented about getting it right away, too. Here are my herb counts (not node counts) for all 5.

345 aethril
584 dreamleaf
172 foxflower
3713 fjarnskaggl
4 starlight rose

It took me around 3 times as long to get the fjarnskaggl one than all the other combined, although the second rank of foxflower took me a very long time, too.

Also, having received one of the 5 items (or questlines) doesn't prevent the others from dropping. At one point, I thought maybe I had to finish one quest before the next would drop. Not the case.

Recently did this grind and this item took about 2 hours of farming to finally get it to drop. I had about 800 starlight rose. Very bad rng.
