You don't actually have to apply it to your fishing pole, it just becomes a ten minute buff.

If you've also snagged yourself any of the "bait" items, like [Sea Scorpion Bait, if you use it they will overwrite your quest item bait. However, you can use items that boost your general fishing, like Sharpened Fish Hook to boost your potential for nice catches. You will fish up the quest item and a fish.

No worries if you run out of time or overwrite your quest buff, just talk to the quest giver and he'll give you more

You don't need high-level fishing in order to do this quest. I think I started at around 40 fishing and was able to complete the quest in around 25 casts. Just remember to apply the buff!

Remember to apply your Moonshell Claw Bait before starting to fish for the five Shadow Sturgeon.

Bring a fishing pole. Obnoxiously, there are no fishing vendors nearby.

Note that you don't need to fish from actual fishing pools to catch these little guys.

Since Pandaria, I believe, you no longer need a fishing pole in your bag. Simply click the fishing icon.

I wanted to make sure people could see this since I think it is particularly important for this quest if you are not a fisher. I was panicking because I used the buff for the quest, but found that my fishing pole was not in my bags. I didn't want to go back to get it and waste the 10 minutes, but when I read this comment, I went back and just tried using fishing and it turns out you can fish without a pole and can apply the buff (expected, not bugged) for use with the quest.

This was very helpful! I went from 1 to 175 fishing with no quest item drops. Came here and read this. Reacquired the quest bait, proceeded to fish without using additional fish buffs, and voila. Quest done in less than the time it took for the buff to wear off.

For the Horde side the fishing helper is Mokugg Lagerpounder located 56, 75

Travel to your Fishing Shack Level 1, located in your garrison and accept the quest Looking For Help from Ron Ashton.

1. Looking For Help - (Video)
• Travel to your Fishing Shack Level 1, located in your garrison and accept the quest Looking For Help from Ron Ashton.
• Exit your garrison and travel north to coords 26.9, 7.3 and click on Madari, selecting, "You look like an able fisherman…."
• Turn in the quest to him, and accept the next quest, Moonshell Claws.

2. Moonshell Claws - (Video)
• Travel southeast to coords 29.0, 10.7 (located on the other side of the Iron Horde ship).
• Defeat Moonshell Crawler and loot 4 Moonshell Claw, from their corpse.
• Travel back to Madari (coords: 26.9, 7.3), turn the quest in, and accept Proving Your Worth.

3. Proving Your Worth - (Video)
• Walk to the shoreline, click on the Moonshell Claw Bait, in your inventory, and begin fishing.
• Fish up 5 Shadow Sturgeon.
• Turn the quest in to Madari, and accept Anglin' In Our Garrison.

4. Anglin' In Our Garrison - (Video)
• Travel south, back into your garrison, and turn this quest in to Ron Ashton, located in your Fishing Shack Level 1.
• Your Fishing Shack Level 1 will now be constructed.

Fun Fact! If you haven't started this quest or the Horde equivalent, you can go find the opposing faction's fisherman (Madari if you're Horde, Mokugg if you're Alliance) and finish the quest. All it does is give you another quest to give in to the opposing faction's Fishing Trainer, but it's an additional quest you can complete for those looking for easy Loremaster quotas or something.

The gains are actually 14,250 experience and 13 gold for lvl 94.

A don't be an idiot like me comment, I decided to go out and sit on a mushroom in the water to fish, accidently crossed into Taanan Jungle but came back. Fished for ages with no result, realised after coming here to see what I was doing wrong, when I left the zone, the buff drops off. DOH. Didn't notice, but you can get another from the fishing guy.
