This is found partly buried in the ground in Nagrand. On the map it is the area between the Ring of Blood and the Broken Precipice.

Nagrand (Staff): 46, 15 - NW area (excluding Highmaul area). Near the Broken Precipice in the Cerulean Lagoon in which you take damage from the noxious swamp fumes every second (2500/tick for me).

Head to the shore between Broken Precipice and The Ring Of Blood in Nagrand. The boots are on a cliff beside the shore :)

Bear in mind that the Nagrand portion may be dysfunctional until there is a way to distinguish between Outland Nagrand and Draenor Nagrand. Until then, simply remove "Nagrand" from the line, then run it while you are in the zone.

I just went to the Cerulean Lagoon to pick up the Mysterious Staff but found nothing, the place is empty. With the other pieces of this quest I saw Vargoth from a distance and a quest on my minimap. This does not happen with the staff. I have not done this quest previously.

The staff is no longer Required as of 17 Nov 2014. You just need The Ring, Boots, and Hat

If you don't see the staff, don't bother. Hand in Boots, Ring and Hat you will get the follower.

i found the ring at /way 39.67, 39.91 walking up to it a shimmering orb was there then when i went towards it it disappeared and the ring was in the crater

It is indeed in the game. I just found it. It's on a little hill/mound a stones throw south-west of Mr. Pinchy Sr. I'm uploading a screen cap. And I got an Epic Archmage Vargoth!

Each of these items is identified with a big, purple and gold translucent globe. Stealth will help with locating each of the 4 required items.

The Mysterious Ring is located at (39.7, 39.9) in Gorgrond, in the volcano/dip behind the giant Iron Horde Battlebeast.

The Mysterious Staff is located at (46.4, 16) in Nagrand, on one of the hills among the mushrooms, near Mr. Pinchy Sr.

The Mysterious Boots is located at (68, 19) in Frostfire Ridge. For Alliance, go W/NW from the entry into Frostfire from Gorgrond. Once you hit the giant lava pit/encounter for Borrok the Devourer, head due north through the Gate of the Breakers into Magnarok (an area with lvl 100 regular and elites). Stick to the left ridge and go all the way to the back/north.

The Mysterious Hat is located at (45.3, 37) in Talador, in the middle of Shattrath itself.

The turn in for all of these is at Khadgar's Tower in the NE corner of Talador and Image of Archmage Vargoth is your reward.

Just now I completed it without Mysterious Staff item, it was not there when I came to the place. So for me it worked only with 3 items - ring, hat and boots :)

I can confirm as of 12/05/14 I only handed in the hat/boots/ring and I now have the follower, I think it has to do with if you did the quest in Nagrand for having the mist not hurt you. As before I dinged 100 I did the quest to kill Mr. Pinchy Sr and I do not see the staff. I turned in only 3 items and got the follower.

I looted this item on the 14th December 2014, i had not previously been over here to get the RARE Mr. Pinchy Sr,
so you still need all 4 items , so ref to this post

From Flight path Hilzit's Holdfast, take the road down towards Gorian Proving Grounds and when the road forks take the shortcut towards Celurian Lagoon. Don't take the road up towards Broken Precipice like I did, there is no path. I had to jump on the sea and take a elixir of water walking to go around and find the location.

Hi :)

Note that if you are on the Garrison Quest for the trial of Heart, you will not be able to see the staff.
Complete the quest and go back to it's location and it will be there waiting for you :)

Cross-referenced and Waypointed Version:

The quest The Staff of Archmage Vargoth
Requires finding the follolwing objects:
Mysterious Boots which starts the quest Mysterious Boots
Mysterious Ring which starts the quest Mysterious Ring
A Mystical Hat which starts the quest Mysterious Hat
Buried Timewarped Staff which starts the quest Mysterious Staff

Once you have all four items, turn them in to Zooti Fizzlefury under the canopy outside Khadgar's Tower in Zangarra.
Zooti will give you Temporal Juxtaposition.
After watching him perform a ritual, complete the quest with Image of Archmage Vargoth.
Image of Archmage Vargoth gives you the final turnin quest The Staff of Archmage Vargoth.
REWARD: Follower: Image of Archmage Vargoth

NOTE: if you delay picking up the last quest from Image of Archmage Vargoth, the NPC may disappear, however, you can find him back under the canopy where you turned in the items to Zooti Fizzlefury.

What I found when doing these quests on an alt levelling through to 50 recently is that the Mysterious Boots, Mysterious Ring & Mysterious Staff can all appear at level 40 wih Chromie Time on. (There is a swirling yellow ball with an Image of Archmage Vargoth & a quest start/exclamation mark.)

The Mysterious Hat will only appear at Level 41 with Chromie Time off.

No mage/quest mark? Something above is wrong.
