A RP event takes place upon clicking the broken totem:

Rulkan says: When the Iron Horde came, they gave our clan a choice. Join them or die.
Rulkan says: My husband Ner'zhul chose to save our people. He joined the Iron Horde, but they asked of him a heavy price.
Rulkan says: They said;

Grommash Hellscream says: What good are the stars and visions against steel and powder? Make a worthy offering, or your people shall die.

Rulkan says: So Ner'zhul turned to the silent void. He broke the ancient laws, and drew upon the dark star.
Rulkan says: I pleaded with him to stop, but he would not turn back.
Rulkan says: By breaking this stone, he forswore all loyalty to our ancestors.
Rulkan says: You must do what I cannot. Stop Ner'zhul. End his madness before it is too late.
Rulkan says: The Shadowmoon fortress is sealed to outsiders, but this keystone will allow entry. Good luck, hero.

The Ancestor's Totem is in a cave with an entrance at the bottom of the cliff southeast of the marked quest area.

There's a Shadowmoon Exile chest in the cave that disappeared for me until the quest giver spawned to let me turn in the quest.

I couldn't figure out why this quest wouldn't open on an alt of mine. It would seem that in order to open this quest chain, you must complete Escape From Shaz'gul first.

If you want to skip the RP event, just walk to the entrance. You will instantly be able to turn in the quest.

Don't forget to to turn it in the same cave It's easy to miss when rushing around trying to finish quests only to get back to the camp and wonder where the damn quest turn in is.

Accept the quest Chasing Shadows from Prophet Velen at coords 40.6, 54.9 in Twilight Glade.

1. Chasing Shadows - (Video) - You can take the flight path to Embaari Village, and then travel north to Exile's Rise. If you don't have this flight path, you can mount up and travel north to Exile's Rise (path @ coords: 45.0, 27.8).

• Follow the path (at Exile's Rise) up and around to the right until you reach the top, and then speak with Rulkan (coords: 45.7, 26.3).
• Turn in the quest Chasing Shadows, and accept Ancestor's Memory.

2. Ancestor's Memory - (Video) - Travel southeast to edge of Exile's Rise between a rock and a tree (coords: 46.2, 26.4) and walk/ride straight off the edge.

• Enter the cave entrance (coords: 46.3, 27.2), and click on the Ancestor's Totem.
• Watch the dialogue, that Rulkan shows you, between Grom Hellscream and Ner'zhul.
• Turn the quest into Rulkan, and pick up the quest Darkest Night. At this point, you will also have Rulkan / Gronnstalker Rokash as a Garrison Mission follower.

3. Darkest Night - (Video) - Exit the cave, and turn southwest to travel to Anguish Fortress (coords: 35.7, 36.9).

• Turn the quest into Prophet Velen.

Find the Ancestor's Totem in the cave beneath Exile's Rise.

Description

I believe that you should know the price of the lives you take.

So before I will help you find Ner'zhul, you must understand why he joined the Iron Horde.

In a cave beneath this village is an artifact that we call the Ancestral Totem. On it is carved the names of every Shadowmoon clan member since its founding.

The opening of the cave lies directly south. I will meet you there.
