Ugh! Watch out, watch out! When you kill the adds they spawn pools under them, wasn't paying attention and..yeah.

Be careful not to fear the adds or the statue as it will reset it every single time.

As soon as you click to examine the quilen statue it becomes active. Easy to kill, loot, and complete the quest.

The tablet is readable, but vanishes from your inventory after you hand it in. The text is:

In the one-hundred-and-seventieth year of the Thunder King's reign, the Korune spellweavers came to Lei Shen with their greatest creation.

A bell cast from the makers' flesh, shaped by stars' fire, and bound by the breath of darkest shadow. This bell, when rung, could shake the world and call to the heavens.

Taken to war, the bell's cacophonous tones stirred the hearts of Lei Shen's warriors. It fueled their hatred and anger, lending them strength on the field of battle. The bell's screaming voice struck fear and doubt into the hearts of the Emperor's enemies, sending them fleeing in his path.

Awed by its power, the Thunder King described the instrument as "the voice of the gods," and named it Shenqing, the Divine Bell.

Some time after handing it in, I received an in-game mail from Fanlyr Silverthorn. It had Reliquary Facsimile attached which provides a copy of the tablet's text. He writes:

Greetings (player)!

Thank you again for you (sic) help with our excavation in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

As expected, Warchief Hellscream was more than pleased to learn of the Empyreal Ledger that you excavated from the stone guardian.

I thought you might be interested in receiving a copy of the relevant factual data that you recovered.

I trust, of course, that you will not share this sensitive information with just anyone.

Make sure to stand pretty close to him after activating him. As a clothy, my immediate instinct as soon as the ground started shaking was to run to max range. He would come to life for a split second and then refreeze. Then I stood right next to him and clicked him again and he activated properly.

What some people won't tell you is this quest is for geared players. You will die unless you can finish adds and dps Boss. Learn this the hard way unless you have a class that can shield up or gain health from melee.

I was not expecting a fight on this, so it took me by surprise. You do not need to be 'heroic geared' for this. I just did it in crafted pvp blues and quest rings / neck / trinkets. Follow:

Strat:

Inspect the stone statue. The ground will shake and he comes to life. Straight fwd DPS until he spawns 3 small Quillen Statue adds. Take each one down and make sure when each of them dies, to move away from it because they spawn a small silverish pool beneath them that will take down your health rapidly.

(I suspect that is the part that is killing people)

Once you kill those three, he will come back to life so just continue to straight fwd DPS him down. Loot and turn in quest.

A better way to do this as a hunter:

(Done in greens and blues as BM. Pet was a Ferocity spec'd Cat.)
Open up full blast and pop all your CDs. When the adds spawn, stop DPS. Let your pet pick them up and just let them beat on the pet while you keep it healed. After a few moments, the big statue will become active again, at which point you should be able to easily finish it off before it can spawn a second wave of adds. Any adds up will despawn when it dies.

By not killing the adds, you prevent them from releasing their dangerous silver goo.

I'm not sure if this quest is broken or if this is intended, but the Mercurial Guardian does not stay 'alive' for more than a couple of seconds. If you miss killing it, it just resets into statue form and you have to click on it again. At level 120 it's a one-shot deal. No adds or anything else happens, but be quick.

At the time of writing, this quest is available at level 15; however, the zone is level 30. The guy shows up as a skull. My level 20 death knight got rolled on this quest. Probably due to some zoning re-leveling scaling issue blizzard missed. If you notice this turns gray at 22, still no way you're going to do this quest at level.

Description

Too slowly!? We are working as quickly as possible for the Warchief!

We must excavate carefully, catalogue each find, and of course follow safety procedures. He must understand!

Well, we may have something to show him soon. Do you see that stone statue to the west?

We suspect it is an ancient stone storage vessel. Now we just have to find a way to open it.
