When you fly over the feeding pits you will get surrounded by flies and dismounted after a few seconds. This is presumably to hinder you from just flying to the NPCs and click them.

I would imagine the intent was to use the stealth ability given to you by your companion.

There is a flaw in that logic though. There is nothing to stop you from mounting up and flying for a few seconds inside the pits so once you have spoken to one NPC you can mount up, quickly get out of the feeding pits, and circle around to the next NPC. They are located very close to the feeding pit edges so its very easy to just land next to them before you get dismounted. Make sure the big bugs are not close when you land though.

While flying over the feeding pits, you get a buff called "Swarming Insects". Note that it's a buff and not a debuff. All you have to do is click this buff off repeatedly and you can complete the entire quest without being dismounted.

For whatever stupid reason the elites near the trainees (Ravenous Kunchong) don't count towards The Bigger They Come.... So save yourself some trouble and avoid them if you can.

One more advantage to being a druid, Insect Swarm doesn't affect them in flight form.

Don't be part of my stupidity, there is only one "Feeding Pit," but there are smaller "feeding pits" where the Shado-pan are found. "Northern" pit does not mean northern part of the island, etc. All the Shado-pan are in that one area - so no need to go flying around looking for the others.

In other words, they're all in one place - one is in the northern part of the place, one in the central, and one in the southern.

Not that any of these topics are not useful how about something like this:

NPC not visible. This is the second time i have come across this and he is not there. Anyone? Are there other pits that i am unaware of. Thanks!

EDIT: Not in the spot where quest said but rather in a random spot in the pits. Have a fly around, i found him @ 17.4, 56.9. Thanks!

Here's a trick for you. The flys won't follow you outside of the pits. Make your entrance and exit from the ocean side. You can even hover near the pits to do a recon from a bird's eye view before heading in, as long as you stay over the water.

Description

Our scouts have sent a very troubling report. Three of our trainees have gone missing, and our scouts found them... They've been captured by the mantid and sent to their Kunchong pits. Their Kunchong FEEDING pits. We're lucky that the Kunchong don't eat that often. I need you to get in there, give them these escape kites, and get them out!
