The mob that drops the bow is Et'kil, who is guarded by two drones in a corner of the temple a little off the road to the north west of the quest giver. The drones do a stacking debuff on you and a 40% extra damage enrage, so be careful.

This is an easy quest for a hunter if you know how to double trap. For those of you that don't, trap one drone and when trap is off cooldown trap the second then burn the MOB. I had him dead as the first drone released from the trap.

Feral druids are kinda shafted on this quest because the mobs hit real hard and have that nasty debuff. Try popping Guardian and seeing if that helps any. Or wait for someone else to come up and try it with you; the mobs don't seem to tag.

Soloed as enhancement shaman at 258K and iLvl average of 426. Did die twice before figuring out to Hex one drone immediately from off to its side (avoid frontal assault!). This drew out the boss and other drone. Active drone was gone quickly. Et'kill was below 25% before the Hex wore off the first drone. Dropped all totems and released Feral Spirit and one elemental. Used Master Healing Potion twice, kept totems active, kept elementals in the fight all the way. Even had to take out a Painted Stag which ambled within range of the Magma Totem.

As an arms warrior (89 iLvl431), I charged Et'Kil, and used intimidating shout. Immediately after, used both my banner and recklessness. If you need to, use Die by the Sword and Rallying cry to finish him. Not the easiest thing to do, but it is very possible.

killed him as a feral druid. just kited one of the adds using faerie swarm and keep spamming faerie alternately between the two adds. because FS also slow 'em down so u shouldn't having problem outrun them. kited them to the temple ground. near by the sentinel. they will keep the adds busy so u can down the boss.

Nearly every class has some kind of CC - Engage by Polymorphing/Hexing one of the adds, nuke down the other. When it begins to cast Caustic Spray just move to the side, they die quick with just over 300k HP. The boss hits moderately hard but can heal up in between attacks, and his Sonic Spike is the circular thing he places on the floor that does MASSIVE damage. Avoid that and you are golden.

Was able to solo as a level 88 Feral Druid ilvl 416. Use Entangling Roots on one of his adds, pull away from rooted mob, pop cooldowns and burn Ek'till. No kiting needed.

If you use coords, he is at 38,66. From the quest giver, face the temple and head left. You'll see a broken down wall with a couple friendly mobs, keep goin left and around the corner (take a right), he's right there. Somehow I managed to down him after one wipe, pretty easy tho.

I managed to do it as a pretty rubbishly-geared 90 boomkin by good old fashioned kiting. The big guy did evade the first try but the second try went fine. I'm by no means an expert player but keeping up dots and taking advantage of Starsurge instant casts did the trick.

You might want to clear a basilisk or two first to give yourself enough room to run around in.

Died twice on my 89 shadow priest (did not take the mind control talent). Tried kiting the three mobs - worked great! Just bubbled/Renewed, then cast Pain on the big guy while running backwards. Bubbled the whole way to the guards, who took him out. Ran too far backwards, though - right into a bunch of mantids, so I had four or five to take out after the quest mobs were dead. When you get to the center of the temple, STOP running backwards!

For Feral Druid:

from near the corner of the castle, entangling roots one of the adds, LOS round the corner.
Cyclone the main boss, meanwhile enrage dps the 2nd add down.
Travel form back around corner and kill the first rooted add (boss will be chasing, just avoid his abilities all you can.

This way you will nuke both adds down relatively easily; its all about your CC's

Then feel free to take all day with the main boss.

I used renewal and barkskin during taking out the second add, although if I paid more attention and wasnt playing rubbish on my laptop and trackpad I may not have needed either ability. Easy fight WHEN DONE RIGHT!

Soloed as a lvl 90 Kitty Druid - Focused DPS on main boss, killed boss, but adds killed me, rezed, went flight form, swooped in and looted corps, took a little damage, but made it out.

I kited all three to the courtyard and died. When I came back, they were still there fighting the guards! With the help of the guards I was able to finish off all three.

Holy crap this one is just about impossible. I just tried it with my 4th character (all clothies), and found it is still as impossible as it was in Beta.

I imagine that the comments above were mostly bragging super players.

On a good day when I am on top of my game, at level 89 after just upgrading and enchanting all of my gear, taking in a 200 gold flask edach hour, and 50 gold food buffs after each death, I was able to get Et'kil down to about 85% of his life about half of the attempts before I was killed.

1900 gold and acouple of hours of effort is more than quests should be.

If any DEVELOPERS are reading this, please take a look at the stats on this one.

I did this at 89 with my Hunter after of course dying a few times. Finally I freeze trapped one mob, sicked my pet on the other, then basically went to town on Et'kil while avoiding his more damaging attacks (something "spike") by simply moving to the side. Once he was dead I looted then ran.

Just soloed pretty easily as an elemental shaman. On a hunch I tried hexing Et'kil and it worked. So I killed both adds. Healed up really quickly and popped my Earth Elemental Totem. Took virtually no damage from him.

Was finally able to complete this as a 90 Boomkin Druid. I'm spec'ed and geared as a healer but I couldn't get this done until i switched spec to boonkin. The key was definitely entangling one of the ads and quickly burning the second. Stay out of the way of the main bosses big attack and get both those ads down as fast as you can. Once that's done the main boss was easy.

Kited them around, as said in the other comments, though it took a few tries to get all the way there. I charged them, put some damage on the two drones, kited them around, died, then ran back to my corpse while the Niuzao Sentinels kept them there. This is on my 89 Fury Warrior.

Some tips on beating this guy:

Ek'till does very little damage with the crossbow(4-6k on a leather feral druid in cat form with crap gear) so he should be killed last. He has an ability(forget name) that places a spot on the ground that knocks you into the air for a few seconds and does decent damage so don't stand in it:D

The two adds are normal mobs, they have an ability(caustic spray?) that sprays an AoE cone in front of them for about 8-10k damage a second if you stand in it. They are stationary while casting so it is easily avoided.

I CC'd one of the adds, killed the other add(they're easy to kill, just don't stand in the acid!). Kited Ek'till while tackling the other add. Then killed Ek'till.

All in all it's a pretty fun fight, definitely a nice change of pace from other fights in the quest chains up to date. As an aside, Ek'till shouldn't have taken the crossbow from the father; his melee damage is far better.

I managed to kite Et'Kil up the stairs to the Temple and somehow lucked out and managed to lose both of his drones along the way. By the time I reached the courtyard, I was able to kill him myself without the help of the guards. Just stay out of his aoe.

I see lots of comments about how hard this is. I just came back so I don't know if this was nerfed but all I did was put my pet (89 BM hunter - Equipped 423ilvl) on Et'kil and doing a mix of aoe and single target killed all 3 pretty easily.

At some point they punted my pet like 30 yards in the air but that was about the extent of it.

I suppose they use aoe type of attacks that do much less dmg to a pet. So if this is still hard I suspect pet classes got nothing to worry about.

Otherwise cc 1 target, kite the other 2.

As a non-uber level 90 shadow priest with only quest gear, it wasn't too bad once I remembered I had Void Tendrils! :) I just ran up, cast the tendrils, backed up, and focused on the boss. I had him down pretty quickly. I did have to tendril the guards again just before the boss went down and I almost died looting and trying to get away (the guards' slow is painful), but I was able to, finally.

As a level 90 feral druid, this was almost impossible for me (though on my hunter it was hardly much different from any other mob). Died 5 times just trying to find a way of dealing with him and ended up killing him thru sheer luck - this was truly one of the most frustrating quests i've ever done, but here's how i did it and its probably a bug so might be fixed at some point.

Theres 2 basalisks near the area that always seem to spawn, kill those first. He has a very small radius upon which he will decide you have "left combat" and run back to his corner and that too is very frustrating. But, it works to your advantage cause the way i ended up killing him was to pull him to the edge of the building (using LoS), kite him near there until he casts sonic whatever, run away from his corner as quick as possible and his ad's should decide you've left combat and run back to the corner (assuming they're arent also casting their spray thing). When he's half way thru his cast, turn around and come back. At this point, if your lucky, the ad's have forgotten about you and run back to their corner, but he's still agro with you. He's not a hard kill after that if you can do this.

The secret is to pull Er'Kil out of the corner so you can move - keep circling and hitting him. Ignore the drones until they spew, then get out of the way but keep up the attack on the boss. As soon as he drops, grab the crossbow and get out.

Easy mechanics: I froze Et'kil, the kited the 2 drones to the right and killed them one at a time using stampede, and some traps. then went back to kill Et'kill. Leave quickly cause they respawn fast. sweet.

I am a lvl 89 Goblin Hunter and this is the tactic I used.

Hit one of the drones with a freeze trap and then attack the second, and kill it..then just focus on Et'Kil and use the stampede which sends all ur pets into the fight.. he will die way before the second droid is un-frozen

Finished this quest today, with GREAT DIFFICULTY. Was not able to kite the mobs, as they evade bugged when I attempted it.

I have a tactic that worked, but it required a bit of CC juggling.

First things first, ignore Et'kil at first. I know he's the quest objective, but he doesn't do enough damage to be your main priority.

His adds however, have a stacking debuff that does scary damage and also slows you (If you have CC that can occupy a mob for an extended period of time, or can switch between 2 or 3 CCs, they are very helpful here - you may end up using all of them; as a warlock, I used Fear).

Target one of the drones, and CC it. Make sure that you maintain this CC for as long as possible, b/c as soon as he's up he will spit on you with his debuff and you will be dead.

While that mob is CC'ed, focus the other one down. He will use his debuff but as long as its just him, it will likely be manageable. Once he is down, focus the other one. Once they are both dead, kill Et'kil. Easy as pie.

NOTE: Et'kil has a knockback that throws you in the air. It doesn't do much damage, but it can be very annoying if he knocks you onto the ledge beside him. Try to keep him between you and the wall.

No idea if I am just over-complicating this fight. TBH, if you can successfully solo this one, you are officially ready for raiding.

Okay, so lvl 88 Shadow Priest -- I tried and failed. Coming back from the black and white run, I find a Horde warlock, rezzing right in front of me, and another Horde lock engaging Et'kil (and dying). So I waited until the two of them rezzed, ate, buffed up, and tried again.

Anyhow, while they were taking on the drones, I rezzed, ate, and buffed. Then I engaged Et'kil. Even with all three of us, he did not go down quickly, but he did go down. I quick looted the crossbow and skedaddled. I don't know whether the Hordies were able to loot him, as well.

That quest is batsh*t insane for a mage. This made me want to travel to Blizzard and throw the expansion pack in their smug faces.
No, you cannot kite them to the courtyard in the new patch, they just run back.
Thanks Blizzard for not playing to enjoy myswelf, but just wanting to strangle the developer.
Oh, and.. tadaa... my tank did it without a scratch (doh!)

Unless you're really a glutten for punishment, I strongly recommend deleting this quest. I find it hard to understand how Bizzard rates it as level 89, as you've got 3 level 90 bugs to defeat--2 of which hit a ton acid. Thanks for taking all the fun out of it, Blizzard!

As for Shadow Priest this was pretty easy to do at lvl 89. First engage boss and summon fiend on him, when adds come use void tendrils. You can finish off boss before cc comes off of the adds. When its time to loot, psychic scream the adds, loot crossbow and done. Never took any damage or even bothered with the adds. Hope this helps my fellow Shadow Priest.

After a few attempts, I cleared the nearest basilisk (so I had room to run), I almost always kept moving, and I occasionally used my few instant casts (aoe and single target). When the adds stopped (to spew killer caustic), I turned sharp left or sharp right (I moved to their side).

After a minute or so, the adds ran back to their corner. They left me and Et'kil alone. At which point I stopped running and soloed Et'kil.

While running around and while killing Et'kil, I stayed away from their corner (even when they were chasing me). That way the adds didn't aggro me again (after/while they went back to their corner).

Adds that get "bored" is not typical WOW NPC behavior. Maybe they don't "need" to get "bored" every time.

Also, the two adds' weakness is that they always do the same thing, at the same time, and in the same direction (like a synchronized swimming team).

Not boasting (my actions were more in line with "Run away! It's the killer rabbit!"), but my squishy holy piest's average item level is 433 and my run speed is just 100%, so this quest should be do-able. Or maybe it's a class-dependent thing.

Strangley, my void tendrils talent did nothing and my combat text was missing.

L89 Feral Druid (Cat) - After a couple of "What the heck?" deaths, I was able to get him down pretty easily by doing this: Take out the extra mob or two in the area. Crowd control Et'kil's adds with Force of Nature. Run in and Rake, Mangle (to max) and Rip Et'kil. Run around and avoid him and the adds and let your bleed do it's thing. Force of Nature should be ready again in about 20-30 seconds (depending on how fast your combo builds). Repeat the process and you should be able to get him down the second time. I popped Renewal during the fight, but it was more panic than needed.

The key to this fight is crowd controlling / avoiding the adds... they hit hard.

Was ready to abandon this, cuz 2 times in the boneyard was about enough. Then realized my mistakes. 89 Assassination Rogue n tried to Sap #1 and Blind #2 then began smackin down Et-kil but, forgot that I had Slice n Dice n another multi-target buff on, which woke up the others to do me each time. Used Mutilate, Kidney Shot, Envenom, Smoke Bomb, Dismantle n Dispatch. So make sure your dps is single target or spend a lotta time being bummed. Not sayin he didn't do some pretty good damage (40% left) but, at least I got him down. Looted fast n Vanished n ran. The other 2 woke just as I looted Et-kil so no wasted time there. Peace!

As an 89 hunter I had zero difficulty doing this quest. All I did was plop my freezing trap down on Et'kill and focus target down the other two mobs one at a time. Easy.

89 fury warr, ilvl424. Had some trouble until I tried Intimidating Shout on Et'kil and 1 add instead of just on the 2 adds, then it was fairly straightforward.
You don't need to clear any space, there's enough room to maneuver and no need to kite anything anywhere.

Et'kil's damage dealer attack is on the ground for a few seconds before it goes off so it's easily avoided and the drones pause to cast their Caustic Spray, giving you time to move.

Hard Worker is a real pain though so fear 1 of the adds and burn the other or your hp will drop too fast.

As two level 89s we got killed a few times, tried lots of different things. There's often some people on the floor above this so I asked a level 90 to help and he did. Quest done. We were about to leave when another level 90 asked for help from us and although 2 of us got killed we could get back and he got the crossbow. If anyone does have trouble with this then maybe teamwork is the way to go.

Another shadow priest strat: if you have Dominate Mind (instead of void tendrils) just use it on one of the ads and attack the other one. By the time you stop channelling one should be around 15%hp (so SW:D should be enough), the other around 60%. No problem with killing it with your DOTs and instant spells, just keep moving. Et'kil alone is easy if you use your shield and you move out of his spike.

Easy gig with an elemental Shaman: use your Ascendence to spam Et'kil with Lava Burst and he'll be done in no time. After that take care of the drones. You could even use Bloodlust and summon your Fire Elemental to be 100% sure.

I dunno, I suspect that shadow priests must be OP just now. I've done this quest before with different classes (including another shadow priest), and usually got my lunch handed to me fairly quickly. This time around, level 88, specced into From Darkness Comes Light, and Divine Insight, and using the glyph of reflective armor, I handled these guys relatively easily.

I took down one drone at a time, then the big guy. I was surprised how doable it was this time.

Level 89 Monk (ilvl 430 questing gear) - Paralyze first drone and run around the corner. For some reason only the second drone followed me. Stay out of fire and destroy him. Et'kil follows soon after. Destroy him too. Second drone breaks loose just in time. Destroy him last. Finished with nearly full health.

As of May 2013 it no longer seems possible to pull the mobs to the temple guards, I tried several times and the mobs always reset and returned before the guards would engage.

There is another way; pick up the dailies from the Shadowpan and bring the partner you can choose for those daily quests. Engage the mobs and your companion will help fight them. I did this with both my Druid and Paladin and it worked perfectly each time.

Hope this helps those who were stuck trying to find a way to complete this quest.

I actually like this quest even if the only classes I've been able to complete it with solo are a Warlock and a Hunter, for which you only need to manage aggro and keep your pet alive. It's one of the true remaining challenging solo quests, not the least of which is because it seems to have changed and (maybe) even gotten a little harder. All three of the NPCs have a Caustic Spray attack which, like all the similar types of mobs in the area, is not too bad if you can move out of it. But now (I didn't see this before 5.4) all three mobs stun and then spray you. If you survive the first attack, more power to you but you won't survive the second. It may be that the stun won't affect you if you constantly keep moving, but I didn't test that.

The triple caustic spray causes a big amount of damage pretty quickly and (as seems to be happening more often now), it doesn't matter what your class's armor is. The old strategy was to concentrate on Et'kil, kill him first and then deal with the drones, since you can't pull either of them without pulling the entire trio. Now you won't be able to stay alive long enough to kill him, much less all three.

So I asked a guildmate to help out. What was really tough with one player was really easy with two. Turns out he hadn't been able to complete the series either, so it was all good. Good luck.

If you're a Time-Constrained Player and there are no friends around, drop this one like a hot rock; the rewards don't match the costs in time or gold.

Tip #1: The Caustic Spray of the two little adds stacks. Stay out of it. They freeze in place puking and you Strafe out of the way.

Tip #2: CC boss with sheep or hex and take out the adds.

Tip #3: when the boss here drops a yellow spinny/hoops/gyroscope graphic, jump out. Don't be lazy and stand it in like I did. It will pop you back.

Even at a high level this quest is challenging if you are not paying attention or not working hard.

If you are having problems killing the guy you can also hang onto the quest for a while till you come along a chain that will give you Protector Yi. He will also help you kill Et'kil & his 2 bodygaurds.

Just like others that have posted, I had died many times trying to pull the mobs to the guards and couldnt stand toe to toe against them on my own with my lvl 90 Disc Priest. I stumbled onto a better way to complete the quest. After I had gone to the vendors on the wall above Et'kil and his drones to repair, I jumped over the wall and landed on the ledge just above him. I was able to nuke Et'kil down. The mobs actually just stand there and stare at you. The only attack that is thrown is Et'kil's. He re-populates pretty quick so just jump down loot his body and run. Easy Easy.

You're looking for Et'kil, who is OUTSIDE the temple, on the south (almost southwest) side. He has two damage-dealing mobs with him--don't discount them, because they can dish it out. They killed me in seconds. I managed to complete this in two ways:

1) Fury Warrior: I had Fei Li with me (if you accept the quests in the Shado-Pan Garrison in Townlong Steppes, she'll follow you until you finish her quests--came in handy once or twice to have her help). Attack Et'kil, and Fei Li will keep the two mobs busy while you kite Et'kil around the corner. Then you can kill him pretty easily, just make sure to keep out of his sonic boom attacks.

2) Windwalker Monk: clear a path to the gates of the temple (maybe a few crocolisks to kill), then kite like Hell. The temple guards will help you, all you need to do is try not to die.

As a very squishy shadow priest, I dotted one of the adds and the kited them to the guards inside the courtyard. The guards took care of the rest. I didn't die and took very little damage.
