I now have this device that looks like "jets" on my back and I have no idea what to do with it...i know it is suppose to allow my to glide up...but do I walk first, mount up, and then use the device later? Help

While in the Charred Vale, use the rocket towards 30 , 70 which is a hefty volcano. At 30 , 70, you will receive your next quest.

If you're doing this at a higher level and have a flying mount you can just fly to the destination.

But nobody says how we're suppose to get down in the first place. Just back up when we're done. Is this thing used for both going down into the vale as well as coming back up? What a surprise Blizzard isn't very clear with their instructions. Or, did I miss a quest, Descending the Vale?

Ah well, it's not as if I've never died before, just I jump down.

Oh, and it's not used to go down, you have to be IN the vale for it to work.

Ok, so you can rocket up step by step, I'm at the top now, didn't look at my coords when I started, so maybe you guys can back calculate. The last jump took me to /way 34.20, 60.79 it was almost a straight up multiple jumps as this thing doesn't have a very long range. So, due east from this point would be your starting point. I believe it took me 5 jumps with a little climbing in between a couple of jumps.

In fact, I think that's about where I decided to jump down at the start of the quest. It looks like big steps going down. Nothing too drastic, I don't believe I lost any health on any of the drops down.

Ascending the Vale

Use Salsbury's Rocket Pack to ascend the Charred Vale's volcano.

Description

I am told that before the great upheaval the Charred Vale was a valley, closed off to the sea. One has merely to look to the south to see that the Charred Vale is no longer a valley and in fact has become an area of great volcanic activity.

Salsbury here has configured a device that will allow us to ascend the volcano. Use it to get to the top and assess the goings on.

I will keep in touch with this Gnomecorder device, which Salsbury has so kindly gifted upon me.
