Pre-requisite: Tell Silvia

Mostly a scripted encounter.

*spoilers*
Starts off as a basic arena fight. Kill each dude as they jump down.
Cho'gall jumps in with 2 non-elite body guards and immediately frost-traps you.
As he begins to cast Flaming Pillar of Doom, the Feathermoon Sentinels jump in to aid you.
He has a number of Elemental AOE attacks, but I was too high level, so I don't know what sort of damage a level 40 player should expect.
Cho'gall has about 7M HP, but you can't pull aggro from the Sentinels and at about 60% he runs away.

Mission Accomplished.

You really should do the questline up to this quest. Fighting Cho'gall with Shandris Feathermoon at your side is an epic event.

And, as a bonus, you can enjoy Cho'gall's funny voice(s).

Not sure what's wrong with the quest, but I get stuck in the iceblock and nothing happens. Cho'gall is attackable, but stuck in place and reverts to full health when I step away. No sentinels appear.

I've abandoned it once already, both times the same thing has happened.

Edit: after three or four minutes of standing out of combat in the catacombs leading to the arena, I ran back out to try to start the event again and found the sentinels attacking Cho'gall. I jumped into the fight and got a quest complete when he ran away.

This part of the quest is actually voice-overed. As Cho'gall is a two-headed ogre, he actually has 2 distinct voices. The conversation bits in brackets are the bits spoken by the second head.

Above the arena, you will notice 4 elementals (Glacial Exile, Rumbling Betrayer, Thundering WIndfury, Burning Exile ) besieging a globe of Azeroth floating over the arena. You also notice Cho'gall with 4 bodyguards standing at the edge of the arena. You cannot do anything to them. As you approach the arena, Cho'gall starts to yell.

Cho'gall yells: The sun of life will set forever, as light gives way to eternal night! (Oblivion looms! It calls!)
Cho'gall yells: The Twilight's Hammer is the instrument of this grand destruction, the method of glorious annihilation! (Tear aside the veil! Open your mind to emptiness!) Through us will you find true power.
Cho'gall yells: Join us (Join us!) and be granted strength beyond strength! (Strength! His STRENGTH! His MIGHT!)

The arena is in a different phase while you are on this quest, entering it will not flag you for FFA-PvP. When you jump into the arena:

Cho'gall yells: Behold! The world you see before you has been judged. (Fire, water, earth, air!) All shall perish before the elements! (Burn and drown and crush and suffocate!)
Cho'gall yells: Join us, and embrace the inevitable end. (The Master's power calls!) You will be reborn, stronger than flesh! (Strength beyond form! Power in the infinite!)
Cho'gall yells: Swear your allegiance to me (The master wants! He sees and wants and hungers!) and you will be remade in my image. (Wait! INFIDEL! A heathen among us!) An intruder! YOU! Show yourself...
Cho'gall yells: Prove yourselves, my ogres! Slay this insect! (Blood for the master! Blood and suffering!)

One of the bodyguards jumps down and you have to kill it. Another jumps down and you kill it too. After you defeat the first 2 ogres that jump in:

Cho'gall yells: Enough! I'll stain my hands with your blood! (Hyehahahaha! Murder! MURDER!)

Cho'gall jumps in with his 2 bodyguards and casts Deep Freeze on everybody in the arena, followed by Flaming Pillar of Doom. Shandris Feathermoon jumps into the arena with a lot of buddies and interrupts the cast.

Shandris Feathermoon yells: Cry havoc, brothers and sisters!

You don't have to do anything for the remainder of the fight. When Shandris brings Cho'gall down to 5.4m health out of his 7 million, he teleports away.

Cho'gall yells: Enjoy your hollow victory, insects. (The darkness comes...) May it console you as your world rots.

Shandris and all of his buddies starts to walk away. If you don't exit the arena, Cho'gall will respawn and jump in and Deep Freeze/Flaming Pillar of Doom again and waste another minute of your time.

This was one of the most epic things I've seen scripted as event, visually astonishing to see the world and really cool to watch all the moonfire spells shoot off at once... Can't deny the possibility "Ready steady go" by Paul Oakenfold in the background didn't raise my mood as well.

As others said before, this is pretty easy. Just jump into the pit and defeat the first two mobs that are sent against you. After that just stay put and do NOT attack Cho-gall when he starts his soliloquy. Just sit there and enjoy the show.

If you do attack Cho-gall and manage to pull agro you will not complete the quest (ask me how I know). If this happens to you just run into the catacombs and wait about 60 seconds then run back into the pit, defeat the 2 mobs again as they're sent against you, and wait in your cozy little ice-block (NOT ATTACKING this time) until you get the quest-complete sign.

I can't seem to find the arena referred to in the quest text. Is this inside the Dire Maul instance itself?

For this quest, when you get to the arena, jump down into it. There will be a bunch of non-combatants. Face Cho' Gall and wait for him to complete his speech. He will then see you in the arena and send one of his lvl 37 henchmen to fight you. After you kill that guy, another lvl 37 drops down to fight you. After you kill the second lvl 37, Cho will jump into the arena with 2 of his guards...but... no worries as the sentinels show up to fight with you at that point. Just stay alive long enough and the quest will complete.

ps There is a tunnel at 60.7 32.2 (left side of Broken Commons) that you can enter/leave the arena by.... I jumped in but I'm a bit wacky

Take the road from Tower of Estulan to Dire Maul. Go up the ramp and follow the path til you get to a big door. On either side around the corner of it is a door that will take you into the Commons area where the arena is. I decided not to jump into the arena as a lot of people said because I didn't know if my health could take it, so I followed the directions of Seahawk Trac who said there was a tunnel into the arena at 60.7, 32.2 and made it into the arena with full health. The quest starts the minute you enter the arena as everyone has stated. Just kill the first 2 ogres and let the Feathermoon Sentinels do the rest of the work. As soon as it shows your quest is complete, leave the arena or it all starts again.

Recap of how to do this quest:
Read the comments by janan2, SeahawkTrac, and Xinhuan;
Kill the 2 Ogres that jump down into the arena;
Once Cho'gall has appeared, you don't need to do anything but
wait for the Feathermoon people to appear, this takes a while;
wait for them to disrupt Cho'gall,avoiding the stuff he throws, this takes a long time;
get out of there, thru the tunnel; and
get back and turn in the quest.

As of now, the ally NPCs will drop down and do around half a million damage, and all of them will disappear. Cho'gall does not move from his place, however you can run and attack him to do damage while TAKING damage. I've pulled aggro from the npc's while they're fighting him as well. It doesn't take much.

After attempting three times, the npc's disappear every time, and Cho'gall will remain there looking around till I leave the area.

Quest not completable at this point in time. Just another bug that reared it's ugly head.

this quest IS completable!

the problem people are running into is that they are trying to help the sentinels attack cho'gall. if you dps enough and pull the aggro from the sentinels they will eventually disappear and you will be stuck all alone with the big ugly head.

in order to complete this quest you must DO NOTHING! once the sentinels appear and start attacking him, just stand back and watch until they are done. easy peasy.

Just tried to do this quest and its bugged for me. First 2 times I fought along with the Sentinels and once I took aggro, the Sentinels disappeared after a few minutes.

Abandoned quest and picked it up again, went to arena and started the event over again. Did same thing as first time except I did less damage but still ended up taking aggro and once again, the Sentinels left.

Came here to see if I was doing something wrong and saw the above comment on where to just stand there and do nothing while the Sentinels do all fighting. Well, unfortunately, this did not work for me. After so long, the Sentinels just disappeared, again lol.

Put in a ticket to see what they say. Ticket shows a 1 day 3 hour wait time :( By then I will have out leveled the quest with BoA and guild perk lol.

I did this quest today on my mage and the first time it bugged. After reading the other comments below I decided to do try two things after killing the two mini bosses. First I got into melee range of Cho'gall. I wasn't sure if range was an issue, but I figured that it couldn't hurt to make sure that I didn't out range the encounter. Second once the battle started I only attacked with auto attacks. That way I didn't pull threat.

It worked and the encounter was completed. Not sure which issue is currently the bug, but this method worked for me.

Persistence pays off. Did the quest 5 times by exiting and entering the arena. First time it appeared to complete but didn't get credit, other times it got half way where Chogall is battled and then Siliva leaves and Chogall goes back to full health before finally fading. Last time, there is a second attack of orbs and Chogall freezes all attackers before giving up and then you get credit. Didn't appear to make a difference if I jumped or took tunnel.

When the Sentinels spawn & attack Cho'gall. DO Not Join the fight or the Sentinels will disappear & leave you to fight Cho'gall by yourself. Just step back & watch & the quest will complete. The first several times I did the quest, I joined the fight & the Sentinels disappeared.
The next time I just watched them fight & the quest completed.

I did this quest today on my mage and the first time it bugged. After reading the other comments below I decided to do try two things after killing the two mini bosses. First I got into melee range of Cho'gall. I wasn't sure if range was an issue, but I figured that it couldn't hurt to make sure that I didn't out range the encounter. Second once the battle started I only attacked with auto attacks. That way I didn't pull threat.

It worked and the encounter was completed. Not sure which issue is currently the bug, but this method worked for me.

Confirming this. Worked on my third try. Had 2 rounds of arcane pillars spell and after that i got iceblocked again and quest complete!

Did it today as a protection warrior in defensive stance, encountered no issues.

Just make sure you enter the arena, you can simply jump down into it.

Still buggy as heck, even after all this time, seems like every time I do this quest it takes at least 2 tries to make it work. One thing I've noticed which I don't think is mentioned in any comments above, is I've seen a pattern in whether it works or not - when I arrive, if there's no Gordok Onlooker (or only 1-2) in the arena, it'll fail; if there's a whole crowd of them, it'll likely succeed. Likewise, if when Shandris arrives she only oneshots one of Cho'Gall's adds, it'll fail, if she kills both, it'll succeed.

Not that I have any more idea of how to trigger said conditions, but it usually seems to work out that way, based on my last few attempts. I always take the above advice of not pulling aggro, which at least ensures it succeeds when it actually spawns properly in the first place!

Still very buggy!

Attempt 1: Helped in the fight... The NPC's all disappeared.
Attempt 2: Didn't help in the fight... The NPC'c all disappeared (backed away from fight to several meters behind main NPC; also there was another non-party player there).
Attempt 3: Didn't help in the fight and didn't move from spot of initial ice block... Mission complete!

As other comments have pointed out, the event may restart at various points throughout the fight, forcing the player to walk all the way out of Dire Maul and re-enter, just to restart the event.

However, while sitting right beneath where Cho'gall jumps down during the fight and typing up a bug report about the issue, a few minutes passed and suddenly, Cho'gall respawned, jumped down and was engaged by the sentinels, without any other ogre respawning or needing to be fought. Taking the advice of other posts, I did not engage Cho'gall at all. After this, the quest completed itself.

If this quest is giving you trouble and everything despawns, just stand there and give them a few minutes to respawn. Hopefully this works for you, as well.

Bugged 3 times for me, so for the final time I just stood next to Cho'gal the entire time. I think he bugged out the previous time because I stood out of range, so he had nothing to attack. I just lingered around the place where he jumps, and it did the trick.

Still bugged for me after two attempts. The first time I did what many others (reasonably, I think!) did and tried to assist the sentinels in the fight, causing them to despawn and Cho'Gall to ignore me. The second time, I followed the advice of some comments here and simply stood there after the iceblock disappeared, which resulted in a long, boring battle that ended with Cho'Gall's "Enjoy your hollow victory" speech, the sentinels all walking away, and...the quest disappearing from my log. No "quest failed" message; it just disappeared as though I'd never accepted it in the first place. Returning to the questgiver provided me with the opportunity to accept the quest all over again. Not interested in a third failed attempt, I submitted a ticket and am awaiting a response. I'll update this comment with any helpful info once my ticket is resolved!

As of this moment,the quest is no longer bugged (for me at least).

1st attempt, I assisted in killing Cho'gall and the sentinels despawned around 82%. Let him kill be because it was taking so long to whittle him down as a Prot Pally.

2nd attempt, Read the info here, did NOT attack him after initial ice block, continued to NOT attack him and let the sentinels get him down to 80% and Cho'gall iceblocked us all, quest flagged complete and he said his "bye bye" and disappeared.

This quest didn't scale properly with the end-of-Legion squish. He has 6.3M health, and I'm a puny little 39 with 2.7k, dealing like 200dps. The NPCs eventually got him to give up and run away, but it took 10-15 minutes of just sitting there spamming him.

Doing this right this moment on my level 55 Ice Mage. I fought 1 ogre and then Cho'gall jumped down. It took about 8 minutes or so for the quest to complete. I tried to speed it up by running in to his melee range and also using ice-block. I didn't want to risk failing it by leaving the arena. Eventually it completed while I was beginning to type this up. So just be patient! It obviously did not scale properly with patch 8.0

Well, it worked for me. Level 45 frost mage.

Couldn't figure out what to do at first, since approaching Cho'gall directly didn't get any notice. I ended up going around the other side and jumping down with all the minion ogres (and for some reason got a 'Wrong Faction' note in red on the screen, but that disappeared), at which point the roleplay of Cho's speech moved on to the next phase.

Amusing thing, while I was wandering around a night elf was killing one of the four special ogre minions. So I didn't have to fight that one myself.

There was just enough time between the first couple of special minions for me to eat a bit to keep health up, but after the ice-block all I had to do was stay there and hammer at him. 7mil health down to 79% only took a couple of minutes at most.

When the frost trap wears off, DO NOT MOVE until quest complete. If you stay on that exact spot, AOEs won't hurt you. Let the sentinels do the fighting, but you can pitch in with ranged abilities that truth be told won't do much, and I don't know if it's necessary, but sometimes you have to contribute to finish this kind of quest.

for shadowlands pre patch if youre doing this on scaled map it takes ages for boss to reach certain HP percentage. i believe some tunning needs to be done here.

I've read through all these comments and nothing has worked (got asked by blizzard to come here once I put in a ticket) did everything they asked. One thing I have noticed is when I do go to fly and then hit the ground it keeps saying in red writing wrong faction..... Not sure how much this has to do with it but I can't complete the story line due to this quest. He was at 86% but it reset but didn't make him disappear and restart. I've dropped the quest, I've restarted the game, dropped all my addons and still nothing *throws hands in the air*.

This is broken in Shadowlands Pre-Patch. It needs to get to around 80% HP for the quest to complete. This took me around 50mins. It could have been a little quicker but I was mostly AFK after this first 5 mins or so and just white damaging. I also ran away at one point hoping to reset it, I flew back to the quest giver, but when I got back he was still alive.

The things we do for Loremaster during content droughts....

I would like to make a comment about this mission as of 11/5/2020, due to the shadowlands pre-patch scaling this mission is completely broken. Another comment, (don't remember who) said that you should fight the first two enemies but not engage the boss in the battle and just watch and it will complete automatically, however I timed the battle not doing anything and it took about 51:15, nearly an HOUR! I would advise NOT doing this mission until Blizzard fixes this mess.

(so in other words never, never do this mission.)

Scaling is off. Level 28, took an hour and 40 minutes for the sentinels to get him to the needed HP. Skip this quest if possible.

I just completed this in 9.0.5, as a level 26. I was party synced with a 60 toon (down to 50). To me, Cho'gall had 123k health, and to my 60 partner, he had 457k. You do NOT actually fight Cho'gall for this quest but you must trigger it or he will be orange and untargetable. If you just fly in from above, the quest won't trigger. You must fly or enter through the south arch where the ogres are sitting in the audience. You'll get a "Wrong Faction" warning and the RP commences, and after a minute or two, Cho'gall recognizes an intruder. First you fight a minion (easy) and then Cho'gall joins the fight. He freezes you and starts casting a nasty-sounding spell, but the Sentinels interrupt him and you join the fight for a time (for maybe... 15% of his health?). He ENOUGHS you and portals out. The sermon has been disrupted and you're free to leave.

The scaling issues appear to have been fixed.

This is far more serious than I expected. We've got to put a stop to this. I don't know if I'm ready to lead such an offensive, but I'm not about to let my fears get in the way of what needs to be done!

I will rally our forces from Feathermoon Stronghold. Head to Dire Maul, make your way to the arena, and disrupt Cho'gall's activities; we will launch our attack during the confusion.
