Attack a Clattering Scorpid, at about 50% health it will start casting Envenom. Drop your totem and when the cast is over you will get credit for 1 sample of venom.

If you're a high level trying to complete this quest simply remove all gear and you should be able to hit the scorpids once without killing them. After you hit it just cancel combat and drop the totem. As an 80 druid I was hitting them for ~ 70% of their health.

As stated before, the Scorpid won't poison you before 50%. The totem needs to be active as the Scorpid completes the cast.

I'd suggest taking off all your gear and only punching the scorpid once, if you too are having trouble with this quest.

This quest is annoying even as a level 6 without heirloom gear. First I was killing thew things to fast, so I started charging in and taking them down to low HP then turning off autoattack. No joy, some of them just don't cast it.

Can't seem to do this quest as a lvl 6 troll hunter. I have no pet bar or ability to dismiss the pet until lvl 10, so cannot stop it from killing the scorpion or pulling aggro. I'd have to put it in combat and run away and hope it gets auto dismissed in order to even get this to work, but it kills too damn fast. Ended up dropping the quest and moving on.

The best for this quest it ask to a low player to help u i couldn't do it this thing have 150 hp and i hit 5k >.< i can't low their hp to 35% so ask to a low player to help u : D

Not hard at all if ur high lvl, no matter if ur 80 or 85... just farm for an weapon at starting places and use it on them or use a fishing pole like me LOL :)

If your a high level...I'm 85 it is simple to do without death or getting all naked. Nobody said what you had to hit the scorpion with! A single blow with your fishing pole and it strikes. Whole quest done in about 2 minutes and didn't have to show off my body to a single scorpion. lol

guyz @ lvl 85, kil nearby mobs etc, until u get a low lvl weapon... if ure a caster this is a simple solution, maybe u melee classes cud try engineering bombs or other items etc

Just completed this quest with my level 50 druid, and it seems they've changed the way envenom works: the mob no longer needs to be at 50% health to cast it. I aggroed the scorpid, let it wail on me for about 8-10 secs (without damaging it) and it cast its poison just fine. I dropped the totem before the cast went off, and got credit each time.

One tip: try to fight these scorpids away from Sen'jin Village, as the overzealous lvl 85 guards will aggro and one-shot them before you have a chance to extract the poison.

I confirm that. I did it @85 by standing on my mount, waiting for them to attack me and the dropping the totem as soon as the message appears (so you'll need other reasons to strip in durotar now)

For shamans, the totem will work as an earth totem, so you won't be able to use .

I found this easy to do at 85. Simple stand on the scorpions to gain aggro, and never start auto attack. Drop the totem, and they'll cast poison. Once they do, kill em, next scorpion.

I just used my lvl 62 hunter to do this quest and all i did was stand there and let him attack me until it said to place the totem. The scorpids attacks just kept missing me so i did not receive any damage from the attack.

It's important to note, even if you're *not* a high level character, each Clattering Scorpid will only use his envenom once, and not until you melee him.

Even if you usually use spells or what not, you gotta smack him...

Also, the cast for envenom is really fast, you should grab the icon for the item and put it on a taskbar w/ a hotkey.

I did this quest today on a new troll druid character. I was able to just place the totem without attacking the scorpions, and they would cast envenom after a few seconds while still being at 100% health.

However, I started having to find scorpions miles from Sen'jin, as I had issues with Sen'jin Guardian NPCs rushing out to shoot them because I was being attacked. I understand that in low-level areas, it's nice to have guards that protect low-level players, especially when they're new and not used to how the game works yet, but when those guards completely interfere with how a quest functions, it becomes problematic.

This quests completely sucks for low level hunters. I couldn't figure out what to do because my pet kept killing the scorpids before they cast their poison.

This is how I finally figured it out. Since we can't dismiss our pet, put them on Passive, or use the command Move To, I ran around Northwatch and gathered up enough mobs to kill me. I then accepted the rez from the Spirit Healer and my pet did not rez with me (you don't get rez sickness at this level.)

I didn't have to remove my heirlooms; I just stood there doing nothing until the poison was cast. Simple.

As a level 6-7 Orc Hunter with BOA's this quest is nearly impossible to complete, as your pet will kill the scorpion before it can cast it's spell. The best work around I've found is to take the Flight Master to Razor Hill, and then fly back to the Sen'Jin Villiage. At least for a few moments your pet will have disappeared (unless you've called for it). This allows you to finish this quest if you work quickly, before your pet reappears. Hope this advice helps others.

There's a couple different approaches mentioned for hunters but I've found this to be the best:

Start tagging a group of mobs and lay down the totem as soon as you get the alert. This has been the only way I could finish the quest without my pet killing the mobs before their cast.

In 6.0 there is no way to set your pet on passive or dismiss before level 10.

This quest is now virtually impossible as a level 5 hunter, my pet can kill the scorpion easily before it casts Envenom. Without a way to dismiss your pet, you can't stop it attacking.

You can't kill yourself by drowning, as with the new increased regen rate for trolls, you gain as much health as you lose.

I ended up getting 6x L7 water elementals to gang up on me and kill me, and accepted a res from the spirit healer, which didn't give me res sickness or revive my pet. I was then able to complete the quest.

I found a great workaround for those low-level hunters whose pets are killing the scorpions too quickly:

fly (or run) up to Razor Hill
talk to Shoja-My
stick your pet in the stable

Worked wonders for me.

For those that do this as a hunter and have their pets up killing them almost instantly..

What i did was put a totem down, run to the scorpy at a point to where he will see and agro you, kite him in a big circle around the totem, while making sure he never touched me so my pet would not attack him. He will do the venom attack after a few sec, if you circle around your totem he will be close enough and you will get the venom out of him without even touching him.

On my level 15 goblin Elemental Shaman I used earth shock to aggro the scorpion, used the totem and got credit for the venom, and then killed the scorpion

HUNTERS: Dismiss your pet. It will be gone for this fight. Here is how: right click on your pet's Unit Frame (the small icon under your face in the upper left corner) left-click on the "Pet Dismiss" choice in the menu that pops-up--it is the fourth line from the bottom. Do not click on abandon.

To recall your pet, click on the "Spellbook & Abilities" button, bottom right tool-bar, next to your "Character" button, in the list look for "Call Pet".

Every hunter should know how to call and dismiss their pet. This is the point of this quest, to teach that. So there you go, now you know.

As 6.1 introduced the Chauffer mount you can now do this quest as a hunter with it.

Mount up and drive near a Clattering Scorpid to pull it. Your pet shouldn't attack it as long as you're mounted up. Now wait for the Scorpid to cast its Envenom and drop your totem just before the cast is finished. You should now get the quest credit before your pet reacts to the attack and kills it.

Works about 75% of the as long as you time your totem right.

I managed to do it like this with lvl 7ish hunter: I mounted my heirloom mount and drove close to scorpion (pet can't attack when you are mounted). When scorpion starts to cast; click the totem and it collects the poison before pet kills the scorpion. Think it should work on high level chars too. Bet you can't make it with 5+ level heirloom hunter if you don't have the heirloom mount.

Haha, I can't believe what a pain this was at a 7 hunter.

Method w/ Chauffered bike.
- Mount up
- Find scorpion
- Scorpion chases
- Drive away until alert
- Alert happens
- Click the totem which will dismount you
- Poison collects

Had a lot of trouble with this and then found an easy way. I placed my totem before I engaged the scorpid. Stood there while the envenom bar filled, and then killed him. Also be sure to choose scorpids away from the guards. They will kill the scorpids before the bar fills. Once I learned to wait for the bar to fill I had no problem as a level 6.

Was having a really hard time with this as a hunter (not being able to dismiss pet) but I learned a trick by accident, if you have the Chauffeured Chopper then just get them to chase you while riding and then drop the totem and you'll get some venom before the pet can kill them :)

I was having a real problem getting this on my hunter with heirlooms. My pet wouldn't dismiss and would kill the mob instantly. One thing that worked was to kite 2 of the mobs while I was in my chauffered chopper, close to each other. My pet would attack one, while the other would cast the venom. I really didn't know any other way to do this since my pet would not attack as long as I was mounted. When I saw the cast bar start, I'd click the totem, which would dismount me. Then my pet would attack. I had my pet on passive but it didn't seem to matter. It's severely bugged. And the scorpids don't seem to cast more than once.

Instructions and suggestions:
-First Of all, we should not kill the scorpions.
-Second : You passed on or very close , requiring you pursue , until it pops out the message that is about to launch the poison, then we put the totem .
-No use pets.

I've managed this with several low level hunters.You don't have to only focus on the scorpions. There are plenty of boars nearby. Standing not too far from a scorpion, shoot a boar that your pet can intercept, then run to the scorpion , let it attack you and put down totem at the appropriate time. You can also agro the guys carrying the boxes or anything else that your pet can attack.

EASIEST workaround for hunters or high lvl toons to complete this:
(Need a mount)
No need to get naked or stable your pet.
Ride directly up to scorpion on your mount, DO NOT dismount.
Let scorpion start attacking you until prompt for totem appears then place it down.
Voila!

Try aggroing the scorpion, then turning around 180 degrees and letting it hit you in the back until it starts casting, then drop your totem.

If you're fecing problems because the guards keep killing your scorps, use the scorpids behind the fallen tree, those are generally out of the aggro range of the guards that spawn when someone near the village is under attack

Hello!

Today is 2019/04/10 patch 8.1.5

In Wowhead the quest reward states that you get Poison Extraction Totem after completing the quest. This is not the case, if you want to keep the totem (That is castable anywhere) DO NOT finish this quest. I tested this with my high level character that I no longer play with and I got no totem after the quest.
