If you're having troubles, you can bug it by standing on the plank you get to the ship on.
If you stand there, the captain won't move, and you can ranged kill him without getting damaged.

He is on the deck of the 1st ship in the rear of the cove where the strongarms are. Be wary as when you kill him a sea giant comes out but its non-elite so you should be fine.

He is indeed on the ship deck on the left ship - for me, the sea giant dropped aggro AND disappeared when I feigned death on my hunter. After that, it was a pretty easy fight to wrap up the quest. Other hunters can verify a repeat or a fix if it was a bug.

{edit} But I was standing on top on the plank when I feigned death. Might be part of it.

My hunter pet wouldn't go aboard the ship unless I ran up the stairs to the left (where the wheel is); same for the ship to the north.

Left ship. I killed 3 mobs on the dock and then ran up the ramp. Only the Captain was there on the main deck. I attacked with pet and when my first arrow hit him, a sea giant spawned. I then frooze him with a trap and kept firing on the captain. He ran up on the bridge but stayed in line of sight. When he died, I dove of the ship before the sea giant defrosted.

If you're a hunter, freeze trap the giant for lullz.

Rather simple, start with smacking the Captain. When he summons the giant, swap to attacking the giant. Kill giant then swap back to the Captain till he dies, jump off the ship.

Lvl 45 goblin combat Rogue.

Boarded the ship and the Cpt and Giant spawned, then my dungeon Q came up! Entered the dungeon and when I came out, the Cpt was sitting on the Giant's shoulders under the boat and I couldn't get them to aggro again. Dropped/Picked up the quest a couple times and Logged In/Out, they stayed in the same position. Finally jumped down into the water and got right up inside the Giant and it aggroed, killed it then the Cpt aggroed on me and I killed him. Wouldn't aggro on me until I got right up in the Giant, attempted to DoT both mobs from a distance but it wouldn't take.

Description

Alright, babe, I've got something bigger for you to take on here.

We spotted the captain of the Southsea over on one of his boats to the south; that's to the south, and NOT the one we've been suicidally bum-rushing for the better part of several hours. He's sitting up there, smug and stoic, watching us war down here.

I'll spare you the "hostile takeover" jokes. Get on his ship and beat the tar out of him, and we're done here!
