I was just wondering if there was any particular reason why people who are dismounted run around and attack the champions that people who are mounted have engaged? I don't see them doing any damage to the champions.. and if they are it's a ridiculously small amount. Do people get weapon skill ups or something? Because if they are just trying to help it's really more of an annoyance then anything =/

Probably the worst Daily Quest of World of Warcraft ever.

Enjoy your mount occasionally bugging out and you being out of range to do your abilities. The only way to fix this is removing your Argent Lance and replacing it for another non-lance weapon; not even the Leave Vehicle button will work.

Being the victim of a instant shield-breaker to charge in 1 GCD is fun too.

I don't really understand why it says +250 rep with Argent Crusade. I was getting rep with Knights of the Ebon Blade, but not the Argent Crusade. Can anyone tell me why?

If you have noticed that sometimes the fight will bug out and you lose even tho you have not left the area and were even beating the NPC. I think I have found the reason and remedy for this.

After winning a fight, wait untill the heal icon lights up even if you do not need a heal, this will meen you are firmly out of combat, if you engage another NPC for a fight before this 'out of combat' happens then it will still happen during the fight and bug out your efforts. Damned annoying to have 3 or 4 bug out in a row when you were slaughtering your opponent.

I found this particularly annoying when still working my way through the factions when I set myself the goal of winning all 7 matches (4 champions and 3 Valliants) without a heal. This bug meant I failed in my goal as it is pretty tight but possible. I now cannot try this again as I am champion of all factions and the lower quest becomes of course unavailable.

Edit. It would appear that this bug can happen even when adhering to what I have said in this post. I had it happen today when I was 100% sure I got the out of combat and healed before I engaged another champ. Definately not as often as it used to but still present so I am, at the moment, stumped as to why this happens.

If you have any problems with this quest, you can try following strategy. If you do everything correctly, your mount shouldn't lose more than 5-10% hp.

Fully stack Defend before the fight begins
Start the fight by talking to NPC
Use Shield-Breaker twice
Use Charge
Use Thrust everytime it's ready
Use Defend everytime it's ready (well, maybe not everytime, but make sure you have 3x Defend)
When enemy gets one layer of Defend, strafe away and use Charge
Repeat steps 5-7

When you talk to the NPC, try to stand behind and strafe little bit away from the ring when the combat starts, this should give you enough range for first Shield-Breaker. You have to keep range until you completly remove opponent's Defend, after that, you want to stay in his melee range so he cannot use Charge nor Shield-Breaker.

Keep in mind, that Thrust does NOT trigger GCD, so you can use it with Defend at the same time.

Strategy that works: Final conclusion
1. Shields green
2. Speak to the NPC you are going to challenge while standing next to him/her.
3. As they move out into the center of the ring, charge them right off from where they used to stand.
4. Melee until the attacker moves away.
5. Charge
6. Circle around and face the attacker... Quickly throw shield breaker.
7. Melee
8. Repeat (4 - 7)
9. If the NPC gets a charge or a shield breaker in on you, return your shields to green while melee'ing. As during charge/shield breaker your shield will be briefly on cooldown. As melee'ing doesn't share the cooldown with shields.

Lastly, it takes practice. Don't get discouraged. Once you learn, and memorize the buttons/stradegy it becomes mundane!

Charge removes a single shield charge up.
Shield breaker removes a single charge up.
Obviously getting both is ideal. But not always possible.
Green shield on attacker melee hits for approximately 325
Yellow shield on attacker melee hits for approximately 1300
No shields on attacker melee hits for a proximately 3250

Each NPC is a little bit different. You will have to practice to find the proper range's to get in the shield breaker just after a charge.

This quest is much easy then most think,

also, i've foudn a better "strategy" then any of those posted above,

simply, make a macro with the following script:

/cast Thrust
/cast Shield-Breaker
/cast Charge

all those free dont share a GCD ( although they do with the defand, which is weird)

after making that macro, place it in a quickslot which isnt on your normal primary one ( the one being replaced) and keybind it. (comment -keybind only tested with Bartender's keybind)

so, the fight can be like that - raise up your defand to 3 shields, and engage in fight with someone,

now, just spam the macro.
every time you charge turn around to your opanent, and keep spamming,

dont forget to refresh your defends, ofc.

if it doesnt work with this macro, jsut remember that you can spam hit 2+3 ( shield breaker + charge) when the opanent disengages, and when you're close enough jsut spam 1.

Most frustrating quest, as the Champions keep leaving the tournament ground and disappearing when I'm almost done with them. Even when I run back to the ring trying to kite them back they charge at me and then run back to the hills... Is anybody else having the same problem? Is there any strategy to keep the NPCs from running too far away from the Ring?

I've discovered that the champions don't care at all where the ring is. They have a certain radius from their starting point that is acceptable. Champions that start at one end of the ring will sometimes blow you off if you end up fighting them at the opposite end of the ring. The horde champions will fight you most of the way up the hill.

Sometimes as I run away from them to pull them back I get hit with 2 or even 3 shield breakers; when I turn to look for them they are so far off they can't see me and are standing there wondering where I am. Then of course I have to go closer to lure them over and they shield break/charge me.

I think the champions should "tether" to the center of the ring at the start of combat, and also prefer the center as the direction they run to get distance on me. That would keep most of my combat within the ring anyway. I'm tired of chasing them into Icehowl and having to fight them in there blind.

Still incredibly buggy in Cat, I guess Blizz never intends to fix it. Fortunately the AI is so dumb you can still easily win with a few simple tactics.

The earlier comments about shieldbreaking and charging simultaneously are incredibly helpful. The best way I've found to do it is to spam the 2 and 3 keys on my keyboard simultaneously as soon as the Valiant turns around. Using that method, I've managed to do both every time. But be warned that the Valiants can do this too, and in fact /will/ do it every time you allow them to.

I get lag for a fraction of a second whenever the Valiant is about to charge or shieldbreak me. This has the effect of giving the computer's actions priority over my own; i.e., if we both charge simultaneously, it gets to charge first, and if it's too close after that (it will be) I am denied my action.

Sometimes my shield graphic will bug out after I've taken a shieldbreak and restored my shields one level back to three. In that case, it will only visually show that I have two shields (which is wrong), but I only take damage as if I had three (which is right). However, the next level of shield damage I take reduces me to one shield in both the animation and damage taken, so if this happens to you, refresh your shields at the first opportunity. That has always fixed this bug for me.

If you're having trouble with this and managing to keep alive, stick to two moves only. Get your sheild fully stacked before initiating battle and open immediately with a charge. Then just keep charging and defending, charging, defending and on until you beat them. This should do the trick if you're having a hard time. Don't even watch your health, just manage the moves and their timers. You can throw in a couple consecutive defends if you really need them, but otherwise, don't bother.

Does anyone else think it sucks that even if you're beating their a**es, if you follow them out of bounds you auto dismount and suddenly "It seems you still need more practice"?

Oh forget all that do this, do that, stuff.

These are EASY.

Equip your lance.

Find your preferred mount and mount up.

Keep punching "4" on your bar (at least three times to give you full shields) while you ride to the tournament grounds.

Pick a rider and challenge them.

Using your mouse, ride in figure-8s around them while literally drumming your fingers of your left hand on your 1-2-3-4 abilities.

Your shields will always remain topped up (as far as the cooldown will go), you'll always achieve the maximum number of shield-bashes, and will always charge when in-range.

Take you perhaps 15 seconds to defeat each rider, and you should be able to finish all four of them (without healing) before you reach half health.

The previous comments outline a perfectly good strategy, but I still find the quest time-consuming. If you get lucky and find somebody else in the arena, you can speed up things considerably for both of you. Wait for him to tag the champion and just melt his face. At lvl 90 it takes about three seconds. Then mount up and have them do the same for you. Even players from the opposing faction are happy to help if you can get your idea across with some emotes.

At level 90, Champions can be killed in under 2 seconds by engaging them in traditional combat.

I rapidly spam the following macro to help with the Dismount/Attack:

/cast

It seems that the trick is to hit the Champion with a ranged attack while it is riding into the ring, before it reaches its first stopping point. And then continue attacking as quickly as possible, else you might get the "I haven't got all day" treatment and a reset.

The Argent Crusade has set up a jousting tournament that allows all races/factions to battle with each other in the field, EXCEPT you can't battle with any Argent NPCs with jousting equipment. And the Argent Peacekeepers are the most annoying. Watching everybody else do battle but sitting on the sideline! At least don't use a jousting lance so it doesn't give the impression that your !@#$ing with us. And while I'm at it the Ebon Blade should also be allowed to joust and be joust with! We all know their the one's doing the dirty work!

This macro trivializes the fights:

/run GossipFrame_GetTitleButton(1):Click()
/leavevehicle
/cast Howling Blast

Bind it to some key on an extra action bar, then when you have to do the stupid vehicle quest on the horses, talk to the NPC and spam it. It will select the first dialog option, immediately dismount you and oneshot your opponent with a ranged spell during the few seconds where it's still vulnerable. Saves 5 minutes of running around, putting shields up and charging every day.

It seems that if you're doing this on a max level character now, you don't even need to put up your shield. Your opponents' attacks do negligible damage to you/your mount.

Replace Conflagrate with whatever instant-cast instant-damage ability you have. Put it on a secondary action bar, talk to a champion and spam the macro. Works every time.

How to do this easily and quickly at max level if you can't do the cheese.

1. Forget Shields and Thrust.
2. Start the fight, immediately strafe left or right as they move away.
3. Cast one Shieldbreaker, then Charge. You're doing this for the speed buff.
4. After you Charge through them, bear slightly right or left depending on their position behind you. You basically need to maintain a bit of distance while being able to >>>
5. Cast 2 x Shieldbreakers until Charge comes off CD.
6. Charge.
7. Repeat 4-6 once. Enemy is dead after one or two more Shieldbreakers.

Takes about 15 seconds. The key thing is to maintain distance so you can use Charge. In a nutshell, maintain distance using speed buff from Charge and cast Shieldbreaker until Charge is off CD.

Updated macro, working from Dragonflight 10.2

The macros from Shadowlands comments didn't work for me, seems there was a change in the GossipFrame or how methods are accessed in macros, but updated it to this and now I can cheese the tournaments just fine

/cast Your Spell Name

The "" addition isn't required, but it hides the error message your character shows when you spam the macro and try leaving the vehicle after you've already left it.
