Great utility: Shroud of Concealment alone is a good reason to bring a rogue to a key. Outlaw rogues have Gouge and Vanish to do certain skips and to avoid some mechanics that involve targeting you. We also have Tricks of the Trade as well as of having an increased range with Acrobatic Strikes.

Short Cooldowns: Blade Flurry having a low cooldown and high uptime. Adrenaline Rush having a relatively short CD with Restless Blades.

One of the sturdiest Melee classes: With Feint, Cloak of Shadows, Riposte and Grand Melee it’s very hard to die.

Very strong AoE: With proper usage of Blade Flurry our AoE damage is insane.

Weaknesses

Damage variance: With Roll the Bones damage on AoE and single target can vary depending on what you roll.

No desirable CC: Outlaw rogues don’t have an AoE stun or slow.

Phases where you aren’t doing any AoE: Blade Flurry being up for 15 seconds and having a 25 second cooldown. Prolonged AoE you run into phases where you just don’t have Blade Flurry charges.

Best Races for Mythic+Alliance

Night Elf - Touch of Elune is a solid stat increase, however, the reason you play night elf isn’t for the damage, it’s for Shadowmeld. Many times throughout high M+ you need to perform death skips. This saves a lot of time throughout the key and saving a Battle Resurrection if they are mobs that have true sight. Additionally Shadowmeld allows you to drop threat temporarily incase you pull aggro.

Dark Iron Dwarf- Fireblood makes this race very strong, it removes all poison, bleed, disease, curse, and magic effects. This racial can have several uses throughout dungeons in Battle for Azeroth. It can remove some M+ affixes, such as Grievous or Necrotic. This ability can save you on multiple occasions as well as providing a nice main stat increase.

Dwarf - Might of the Mountain is a strong DPS passive and Stoneform is a more defensive version of Fireblood

Horde

Blood Elf - The best option for Horde easily for rogues in M+. Arcane Acuity buffs our crit by 1% this is Outlaws best stat for M+. Arcane Torrent also gives energy, you’ll find this useful in scenarios where you don’t have Adrenaline Rush up and depending on your buffs being energy starved. In Battle of Azeroth they added a lot of mechanics throughout dungeons that you can dispel with Arcane Torrent. It can be incredibly useful in scenarios like Kings Rest where you can Cloak of Shadows and Arcane Torrent the Minion of Zuls. Or at the start of The Underrot intentionally not kicking Gift of G’huun on Devout Blood Priest and using Arcane Torrent to just easily dispel them.

Zandalari Troll - One of the newer races in the game. Zandalari Troll provides Regeneratin' You can Cloak of Shadows and Riposte and use this racial to essentially have a free full heal. In addition to this you can choose from multiple Loa’s. The strongest of which is Embrace of Pa'ku. Crit being the best Stat for Outlaw, having an increased 4% on proc is huge.

Outlaw Rogue Utility in Dungeons

Shroud of Concealment - Provides stealth to your entire group for 15 seconds. This is very important in most dungeons in Battle for Azeroth and a big reason why we’re brought. Later on in this guide I’ll go over some common shroud skips that maybe your group could use!

Tricks of the Trade - Very useful on the affix Skittish. You should plan your tricks around bigger packs and it makes it almost impossible for tanks to lose threat with the amount of AoE Outlaw does.

Blind - Less important Utility as of Season 2 compared to Season 1 with Infested, however, with certain affixes like Bolstering or Sanguine, it might be beneficial to Blind certain targets to prevent a potential time loss or even a wipe. Also if you don’t see yourself using it, you can always use it to stop a cast if your kick is on cooldown.

Sap - Similar to Blind, it’s less important in Season 2 compared to Season 1. But it can be very useful in scenarios where you want to CC mobs and pull others away.

Vanish - This ability matters a lot less for damage unlike the other specs. There are certain mechanics you can completely negate by using Vanish when a target ability gets thrown at you, it's also very useful to do skips with Vanish when you plan on shrouding another spot in the dungeon. Another way to use this ability is to drop threat when your Tricks of the Trade has been used and is on cooldown.

Cloak of Shadows - Very strong defensive. Can be used if something is about to kill you or just to get more uptime on bosses or mobs if there’s certain mechanics on the ground preventing you from doing damage.

Gouge - Even though most mobs won’t sit this full duration incapacitated, it’s sole use is to prevent casters from using abilities that could potentially kill your group.

Feint - This ability makes you very sturdy and on high M+ this is a very useful button that you hit often.

- This ability is both good and bad. It’s essential to use on cooldown for damage because of traits. It can completely lock down a target from casting or using abilities. You could run into scenarios where targets are on complete diminishing returns and can’t be stunned when you need to stop targets that can’t be interrupted or your kick is on cooldown.

Distract - Great for when you are in Shroud of Concealment. It is useful when you are fighting a pack to stop a patrol in its tracks to prevent pulling more. Finally, it's used for setting up larger pulls that involve keeping patrol packs where they are while you may be finishing up a pull.

Quick Draw Sinister Strike has a 35% chance to strike another time and give you the proc Opportunity. With the natural synergy this talent and that ability has, it gets better with the trait Keep Your Wits About You, giving you more Opportunity procs.

Acrobatic Strikes - This talent is flatout better than the other 2 talents and is a huge strength for Outlaw. It allows you to hit mobs from a relatively safe spot compared to other melee. It also allows you to have a larger Blade Flurry cleave radius

Vigor - The best option if you don't have Memory of Lucid Dreams.

Deeper Stratagem - Having Memory of Lucid Dreams and 2 or more Ace Up Your Sleeve. This talent becomes the best in this row.

Marked for Death - Having Memory of Lucid Dreams and you foresee yourself consistently getting resets, this talent can be better than the others in this row.

Cheat Death - This talent is very strong and a reliable safety net. There’s situations in M+ where you could find yourself in a bad position or your tank is kiting and you get hit by an unexpected frontal.

Elusiveness - This talent has a very small niche and it’s only valuable in high M+ in the following; Kings' Rest for The Golden Serpent Spit Gold and The Council of Tribes Kula the Butcher Severing Axe. Also useful in Temple of Sethraliss On Galvazzt when you’re soaking a beam. In these dungeons it's potentially riskier to take due to not having the reliablity of Cheat Death.

Sting Like a Bee - You use on CD and this increases the damage the mob takes by 10% during the 6s duration of this debuff. No other talent in this row can really compete with this.

Alacrity - At max stacks this provides 10% haste and it has a consistently high uptime throughout a dungeon because the buff lasts 20 seconds.

Dancing Steel - This talent got a lot better with the trait Keep Your Wits About You. Having a fully stacked Wits for a longer period of time makes it invaluable. You’ll have less gaps of no Blade Flurry because of the increased duration. Also increases the damage of Blade Flurry by 5%.

Blade Rush- There are a few niche scenarios where you could find yourself using this talent where there isn’t a whole lot of cleave. This also depends on the group composition, however, dungeons where I’d consider taking this talent are Kings' Rest or Temple of Sethraliss

Keep Your Wits About You - The more stacks you get the more you get Opportunity procs. Sinister Strike also striking twice consistently by itself is a massive dps increase. Only one of these traits are needed.

Deadshot - Currently one of the best Azerite traits to stack. While using on Cooldown, this trait synergies well with your kit. Those hard hits being funneled into your Blade Flurry is massive burst damage, and you can do this frequently.

Ace Up Your Sleeve - The other best Azerite to stack and generally is better than stacking Deadshot presuming you have 2 or more, Memory of Lucid Dreams minor, and run the talent Deeper Stratagem.

Blightborne Infusion - A very high Critical Strike proc with a relatively high uptime. Crit being one of your best stats makes this trait a top contender.

Overwhelming Power - This trait provides a lot of haste and is our highest simming Inner Ring.

Heed My Call - Strong on both Single Target and AoE. Second highest simming Inner Ring trait.

Middle Ring

Resounding Protection - This is similar to Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus from Legion. Having multiple of these traits in high Tyrannical keys is almost necessary. If this trait is available you should definitely take it.

Impassive Visage - Having a flat heal every time you take damage is nice to have, since we’re in melee and prone to taking some sort of damage. This can alleviate some healing your healer has to do. This trait is a good alternative if you don’t have access to Resounding Protection.

Vampiric Speed - This trait excels on the affixes Bursting or Explosive, and worth taking over the above two middle rings in those particular situations.

Mastering Outlaw Rogue Roll the Bones Usage Roll the BonesA general rule for Roll the Bones is to:

Keep single Ruthless Precision.

Keep any 2+ buff

If the trash is going to die in a short time span don’t bother rerolling and keep what you have.

Try not to spam reroll during Blade Flurry but if you are preparing to enter a period of continuous Blade Flurry then it’s ok to fish for a good roll.

While fishing for rolls on AoE, you can also keep Grand Melee, Broadside, and Ruthless Precision. Keep any 2+ buff discounting Skull and Crossbones. This is because Keep Your Wits About You applies a stronger effect making it obsolete. For instance if you roll Buried Treasure and Skull and Crossbones, you would follow the same rules of having a single Buried Treasure.

True Bearing and Grand Melee are useful for preparing and dealing with lethal scenarios. True Bearing is used prior to engaging a lethal pack to ensure you have Adrenaline Rush available. Grand Melee is invaluable on bosses with constant damage or bursting damage, it exponentially scales our survivability on AoE.

Healthstone - If someone has a warlock alt you can summon to pickup healthstones.

War-Scroll of Battle Shout - If you're not running with a Warrior and consider picking up War-Scroll of Intellect and War-Scroll of Fortitude if your group forgets to bring them.

Unstable Temporal Time Shifter - A Battle Resurrection if you're Engineering. Takes 5 seconds to cast. It’s more useful for rogues to have than any other class if your group requires you to death skip. You can Vanish away from the mobs and battle res after the mobs have reset.

Belt Enchant: Personal Space Amplifier - You can find this particularly useful if you accidentally pull mobs with bolstering. Or in other situations you can knock casters or Marksman into the group if they are out of group.

Drums of the Maelstrom,Drums of Fury or Drums of the Mountain - If you don't have someone that can Bloodlust

Addons and Weakauras Addons

Weakauras2 - For tracking various cooldowns or timers or whatever you need. This addon has endless possibilities.

Method Dungeon Tools(MDT) - Route Planner, plan everything you’re going to do before you even start the key.

Details or Skada - Track damage, healing, priority target damage, interrupts. List goes on.

Plater - Customizable nameplates that help targeting mobs easier and have a bunch of different functions in the addon to make timing dungeons easier.

Bigwigs & Little Wigs or Deadly Boss Mods(DBM)- Track boss timers.

Tips for Dungeon Affixes

Fortified - Increases the health of mobs by 20% and their damage by 30%. Trash will live longer. Plan your Blade Flurry’s better, depending on key level you might have gaps where you don’t have any charges of Blade Flurry. Have charges going into the harder or bigger packs. Be more cautious of frontal cleaves and interrupting important casts.

Tyrannical - Bosses have 40% more health and do 15% more damage. This will lead to relatively long boss fights, and it’s highly recommended to try to negate as much damage as you can by utilizing Feint and Cloak of Shadows.

Bolstering - When a mob dies it applies a buff to all mobs around in 30 yards that increases their health and damage by 20%. If your group is pulling mobs with varying health pools, it’s very important to Blade Flurry off the higher health pool targets, like packs in Atal'Dazar with Skyscreamers and Saurids. It's optimal to temporarily not use Blade Flurry until the Skyscreamer is closer to dying. If you Sap or Imprison then pull a pack, that Sap or Imprison mob will not get bolstered. You can utilize that in situations like Waycrest in the courtyard outside Soulbound Goliath with the hounds that pat around the room.

Bursting - If your group is pulling large trash packs, you want to kill the mobs in increments that your healer can handle. In some cases your group may want to kill all the mobs at the same time and have your healer pop all of their healing cooldowns. You can Cloak of Shadows Bursting.

Raging - We don’t have any CC to deal with raging in a trash pack, however, we can individually cast Pistol Shot on melee mobs if your tank chooses to kite them. You should also prevent any casts that are initiated when mobs reach raging threshold. Use your Kick, Gouge, or even consider using Blind as an interrupt.

Sanguine - Be careful when you use your when mobs die, don’t stun mobs in Sanguine. The damage you’ll deal isn’t worth the amount they’ll heal.

Teeming - More enemies can mean way deadlier trash packs, try to go in these packs with a good Roll the Bones roll from the previous trash pack.

Crippling Pestilence is a 3 second cast on a random party member that deals a substantial amount of damage and leaves a Disease that reduced movement speed of the player for 8 seconds.

Rezan will periodically cast Terrifying Visage. You should be avoiding this cast by line of sighting it around a pillar or staircase. You can Cloak of Shadows this cast and you should if your cooldowns are active or have a good buff.

After Rezan casts Terrifying Visage he subsequently casts Pursuit on a random party member. This can be baited on your Healer or Tank if all of your ranged and melee DPS are inside of Rezan's hitbox and the healer AND tank are standing out. If Rezan does cast Pursuit on you. You can use Vanish to stop it. You need for it to actually fixate on you. To do this, you should run out of melee for a second or two and let it run at you, then Vanish.

Never be behind Rezan because of Tail.

Your group should split up on each totem. Make sure all 3 die at the same time.

Periodically the boss will do Toxic Leap on a random member in your party, move out of this circle on the ground.

When Vol'kaal leaps, Noxious Stench can line up to cast right after it. It’s important to have someone interrupt this cast as soon as possible.

After all the totems die the boss will now take damage and your group should be relatively stacked as the boss will put Toxic Pool underneath your group’s feet. Your group should be moving around in a circle around the room.

If you skipped the pack outside of the room, don’t be near the gate when the boss is about to die otherwise you’ll pull it.

Captain Eudora will cast Powder Shot throughout the fight. It’s possible to get two in a row and could be lethal especially on Tyrannical. It’s important if you are going to get hit by multiple of these to use Riposte to Parry the Powder Shot. If your Riposte is on cooldown you can Vanish the cast and it will stop its cast.

Captain Eudora will Grapeshot. Leaping into one of four locations. Grappling Hook behind her to completely avoid being hit by this ability.

Captain Raoul will cast Blackout Barrel on a random party member. It’s important to break them out quickly. It can line up with Captain Eudoras Grapeshot and kill you. If you have a Paladin or Monk in your group they can use Hand of Freedom or Tiger's Lust to remove the barrel.

Don’t be near Captain Raoul when he casts Barrel Smash. Don’t be greedy and get the brews if he’s casting near one.

During the fight Harlan Sweete will spawn Irontide Grenadier. These Grenadiers can be CC’d and then they’ll blow up after a few seconds. As rogues we can use Blind on them and they’ll instantly die if there’s ever a bad one where it would hit your entire group.

It’s recommended to Bloodlustat 60% if it’s up as it’s the most lethal phase.

If you used Shroud of Concealment to the boss be sure not to get knocked back into the nearby pack by Swiftwind Saber.

Rogues can use Evasion and Riposte on Severing Axe; it’s a very tricky task but can be consistent if you know what to do. When Kula casts Severing Axe she faces the person she will throw it at and then .5s after the cast it will show who it’s targeting. The strategy here is to have your group fan out after Whirling Axes so you can easily see who she’s facing to Riposte it. Severing Axe is a very lethal mechanic and should be respected as such. You can find a clip of me using Evasion on this mechanic here. Riposte works the same exact way.

Shadow of Zul will also place down Pool of Darkness, which will deal a large amount of damage to anyone in a 20 yard range. Normally, the mechanic would have one person soak it to stop the pulsing AoE, instead, you can simply have your entire party out of its range and ignore it.

Volz’ith will cast Whispers of Power on the Healer, buffing their damage and healing but reduces their maximum health by 10% per stack and can stack up to 9 times. It’s important to try to keep this on the healer, but if the healer positions poorly and gets hit by Tentacle Slam or any mechanic they will instantly die.

During Phase 2 it’s important to have organized kicks and be sure the one one you are focusing always has an interrupt ready for it. Usually the off target will have at least one cast go through, when this happens you can Cloak of Shadows the damage.

After you come up from Phase 2, there will be 5 Manifestation of the Deep that spawn, to kill this boss as efficient as possible you should have one of your DPS kill one at a time. When you kill these they will explode on the entire party. With your healer having the reduced maximum health buff. They can live through one and quickly heal themselves up with the increased healing done they also have. Your healer should be focusing the boss while one DPS deals with the adds for it to be the most efficient.
