This mob is intended as a replacement should a hunter abandon their Gara (or wish for multiple copies). It can be found at the base of a tree at 65.1, 36.7 in the Hills of Valuun after entering the void realm.

Does not spawn unless you have already tamed Gara, Just checked on my hunter today. (5/16/15, patch 6.2)

he's there immediately following taming gara, so if you're doing it at level 100, you can go ahead and tame him.

So I had Leorajh with me to kill Xan. But when I started to tame Gara Leo tried to kill him. Deterrence didn't work. I had to kill 3 more elder void walkers to pull him off of Gara. By the time he was dismissed, Gara was gone. Fortunately once Gara is activated, so is the Lost Netherwolf. So I was able to tame this one... and yes he does bite when you try to tame him..

TLDR: don't have bodygaurds when taming

This mob is always level 100. I went to check and see if it scaled to level like Gara does on my 97 hunter whom I had just done the quest on, and I can confirm that it doesn't.

I tamed Gara a while back, probably about 4 months ago on my level 100 hunter. yesterday I tamed a new pet and this morning I wanted to summon him to look at something and when I right clicked on Gara's little pet profile picture under mine, I accidentally clicked abandon. I did not mean to do it at all as it took me about 3 months to even get Gara. I went back to shadow moon valley and back into the void. after killing around 10 void lords/void callers, Xan did not spawn, and after reading a guide I saw there was a replacement, but Gara had to be tamed to active it. my question is, can I tame the lost netherwolf even though Gara isn't actively tamed? or can I even tame gara again or did I mess up and will never get her/a replacement again?

Do you have to tame this lil guy IMMEDIATELY after getting Gara? Or can you like, go back months later and get it because you want a matching pet? >_> Cuz I went back into the void today to see if I could find it, and I couldn't. Wondering if you can only get it once you get Gara.

For any wondering. If you accidentally abandon Gara or want a second one of these, you can go back to the tree, click on the knife, go to coords 65 36, then you'll find a Lost Netherwolf

If you're returning years later attempting to tame a second purple wolf like I was and could not remember whatsoever what you did to get Gara in the first place - You have to enter the void realm before you'll be able to see the wolf, just before the hill there's a giant dead tree with a sword in the hollowed center, clicking the sword to enter the void realm, then fly over to the left side of the hill and you should see the wolf laying under a tree. It seems to have a short respawn timer as well, took just a minute or so for it to respawn after taming.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I cannot find the lost netherwolf. I click the sword, in the phased nether Gara runs to my side, but searching near the tree doesn't show anything. I tried in warmode and normal with the same results.

98% refer current and future Hunters to the step-by-step guide posted under Gara by Niecho (in 2020 even!). The only updates are:

FROSTFIRE RIDGE: Thunderlord Giantslayer is a single huge NPC patrolling in a gully just down the side of a small mountain. He patrols around into a cave where there is a fire (inside the skeleton's mouth).

"GO TO FLIGHT PATH @ AKEETA'S HOVEL IN SHADOWMOON VALLEY - HEAD NORTHEAST AND ENTER SHADOWMOON FROM HERE"
= should read as: "TAKE FLIGHT PATH TO AKEETA'S HOVEL IN SHADOWMOON VALLEY - HEAD SOUTHEAST AND ENTER SHADOWMOON VALLEY FROM HERE"
(if you follow the OP directions you might assume you enter the SM Burial Grounds dungeon, do NOT enter dungeon area at all)

The Void Lantern places a 1-hour void aura on you called Void Lantern similar to a shadow priest. You can loot only one (1), but once you use Shadowmoon Voidblade at the Great Tree Valuundira you can go back and kill another Shadowmoon Voidtwister to loot another Void Lantern (that you can take in dungeons/raids and look oh so snazzy!).

NOTE: You can only seem to tame one (1) Gara spirit beast, but you can tame unlimited Lost Netherwolfs IN THE SAME VOID INSTANCE. In other words, tame Gara, then ride/fly NORTH to /way 65 37 and you'll find a single Lost Netherwolf snoozing under a small tree.

Tame Lost Netherwolf, wait a minute or so and another Lost Netherwolf will respawn. Tame all you like, or just stick with the two already tamed.

Fun fact: A tamed Lost Netherwolf does NOT keep its name, BUT its name changes to a kewl "Spirit Beast" instead. A spirit beast named Spirit Beast. Enjoy!

NOTE 2: In Dragonflight era, most mid+ level Hunters can 1-shot Xan w/o needing pets up. Take your 1-2 and then have slots to tame 2-4 more spirit beasts if you like. Xan spawned maybe 30 yards north of the void dagger tree you start at. So once you kill Xan, tame Gara, then go straight north to tame Lost Netherwolf.
