If you have one of these as a hunter pet, I can confirm when you click on them they make a snake-ish like vocalization.

Found mine in the southwest, in the cactus area. Saw another near there and one near the center of the map on the south side of the Dunemaul Compound.

When you whistle for your pet Sunburst Adder, it crawls up through the ground rather than just appearing. Very cool animation, in addition to being very attractive.

Awesome looking serpent. Caught my eye so I nabbed it. Nice venom spitting ability and fire damage from cast 'sunbeam' is handy too!

They are tough to find, I admit that. No quest required, just scour the Southern part of Tanaris...North of the Southmoon Ruins and South of the Dunemaul Compound. Found mine all by it's lonesome at 38.99, 65.00. Make sure you do have Beast Tracking on, and don't give up. They are not considered rare spawns, at the moment. There just don't seem to be too many of them around. A stunning ruby-colored serpent that shimmers in the light! Well worth the hunt for the beast! ^_^

I've found that if I attack immediately after landing (and dismounting), there is a slight delay as the snake comes up out of the ground and acquires the target. That delay causes my hunter to build up more initial threat as he gets the first shot off (usually a big one like Chimera if I'm just farming).

However, if I dismount in mid-air while attacking, the snake will appear in midair and immediately attack and move forward, gaining threat. What's particularly neat about this is that the cobra's corrosive spit looks like a green air-to-ground missile.

To to this, I have my options set to dismount on casting. 20 feet off the deck, you acquire the target, cast Hunter's Mark, dismount, and while you drop and open fire, the cobra's already hard at work. The danger, obviously, is that it's easy to accidentally dismount with this option. If you're high enough, and don't have a parachute (engineering) or other slow-fall option, up goes the repair bill.

I'm quite surprised nobody has mentioned this, but the cobra has a very unique "fang" animation when it attacks. Should you scroll all the way in while one is attacking you, the fangs are evident and are pretty big. Fortunately for all the hunters out there, after being tamed, the pet retains this fang animation and will continue to use it when he attacks for you.*Note* The fangs only appear as the pet attacks. They will not appear otherwise.

Confirmed: It does retain it's fangs when attacking, it does reflect sunlight, it does hiss like a snake, and it just generally looks badass. I've never seen anyone else with one of these; When in main cities, I often get people asking where I found it and that it looks awesome. Of course, I just tell them "Somewhere in Kalimdor"

Just found one of these by pure chance while doing a Ravasaur daily; had never seen or heard of it before but wasn't sure if it was special because it wasn't a rare... Tamed it anyway, and after reading the comments above I'm very glad I did! I shall name him Floyd in honour of Apolocyntosis' suggestion - kicking myself for not thinking of it myself :D

One thing though, it appears the "climbing out the ground" animation has been removed; mine just appears from nowhere when I summon it, like any other pet. Shame.

I'd have to say this i the coolest pet in WoW. Why? Because not only does it have a very cool skin texture, but it also has vocalizations on click. In fact, it may be the only pet that does that. I just tamed one today, seeing if it does, and it does! Try it for yourself! :D

The map for the Adder don't have all the spawn points, consider moving around and exploring. I went south east of the cactus area and spotted it straight away. maybe that why its hard to find the mob since we are not even looking at all the surround areas.

These pets seem to share spawns with other mobs in the area. Frustrated at my inability to find one, I killed off several Desert Blooms, a couple Sand Slitherers, and Duneclaw Broodlords. When I returned to the area, there was a Sunburst Adder patting around it.

Found him around 31,52 after a while of running around on my mount clicking a target macro. They are out there, just hard to find. I think that is good though because it makes them more unique as not every hunter is running around with one. Very shiny and beautiful looking unique serpent. I wish some of the non cobra looking serpents like the ones out here in Tanaris and the ones in Timeless Isle could but tamed, but this beauty is a good substitute! :-) Happy Hunting!

serpents increase all melee and ranged attack speed by 10% for 2 mins
also I found him playing in sun near the gaping chasm; which isn't shown on the map here
the coords are 48.44, 75.47

After looking for a Sunburst Adder for at least 45 minutes of just flying around, I decided to start killing the local Noxious Tunnelers, Sand Slitherers and Duneclaw Broodlords.

After another hour of flying around, killing, skinning and flying some more I started noticing that there were Slitherers where I had killed a Duneclaw, or a Noxious Tunneler where there'd been a Duneclaw.

After this I came to the conclusion that they must all share a spawn (after reading all that you're probably thinking "No duh...")

Then finally I found a Sunburst at 40, 67 where I'd killed several Duneclaws and Slitherers previously.

But get this. As I was flying around to check the names of the shared spawn beasts for this posting, (because after all, I didn't pay attention to the name plates. If it wasn't a red snake it was simply dead,) I found ANOTHER Sunburst Adder at 38, 73, in front of the Valley of the Watchers. And while at 40, 67 I wasn't 100% sure what had been there, I am 100% sure that there were Duneclaws and Slitherers at 38, 73.

So I dare say I am confirming that the Sunburst Adder shares a spawn (albeit low spawn) with Noxious Tunnelers, Sand Slitherers and Duneclaw Broodlords.

So if you can't find a Sunburst right away, start murdering the local wildlife and just keep trying. You may also get a few leatherworking recipies from it like I did. Good luck and happy hunting! :)
