As stated by another poster (FaaR), this beast can be tamed by hunters, and is unique aside from a similar looking lion you encounter during a lvl 60 quest in Winterspring. Below is FaaR's post, for those who checked here instead of the quest for which the beast is involved.

For the curious, this beast can be tamed by hunters, and as there are only two grey male lions in the game - the other being part of another Horde quest in Winterspring, this one at level 60 - you'll be one of the relatively few people running around with such a pet if you do so. Of course, getting this lion on the alliance side requires some non-trivial cooperation, particulary on PvP servers.

Note: you'll need to abandon the quest to kill him afterwards because the horn that summons him will be consumed once it's used even though you never killed him... Just go back to Segra and get a new horn afterwards and then use Echeyakee to kill Echeyakee. ;)

At the moment he comes with a 2.0 second attack speed, which pre-Burning Crusade is unusually high for a cat. This means he hits slower but harder, yet he still triggers the Frenzy effect quite often in my experience. No need to spend countless hours camping out in the badlands for Broken Tooth and his 1.0 attack speed, especially since it looks like Burning Crusade will adjust ALL pet attack speeds to 2.0 seconds.

I've just trained Echeyakee (at lvl 16) and didn't have too much trouble. I took a higher level friend to call him and then let my friend take care of the mobs while I trained him. He got me down to about half my HP but was no big problem at all.

I just trained Echeyakee. He was no problem. I had him and 2 huntresses on me and i still tamed him without losing half my health. And for the curious, im a level 16 Blood Elf.

I tamed this lion in a rather funny way.
When I got there I tamed one of those lions that walk around and named it Savannah (Savannah Prowler didn't fit in) and put it on stay in the middle of the skeletons. Then I shadowmelded and waited for some time before an ugly tauren came to do the quest. He started clearing the lions and eventually attacked my pet (and got pvp-tagged) so I dismissed my pet and he summoned Echeyakee. I then killed the horde and tamed the lion! :)

I found a fairly easy way to tame him if you are alliance. I have a hoarde character, so I summoned him with her, then exited the game, restarted it and logged in as my draenei. Worked like a charm. :)

Its very good lion to hunter. Im hunter and he helps a lot.
If u got alerady pet, leave him in a stable master ( dont dismiss him) and go to do quest. (if u want echeyakee like your pet) , u need to fight with him 3 days that he needs to be your friend :)

To summon him simply go to 55.16 and search for the bone piles, summon him anywhere near there.
Make sure you clear the area first because the Huntresses become a pain once theres 3 on you.

How do you get him on a PvE server? I am a Dranei hunter level 25
and I really want him. I don't know anyone with a horde character

I did it this way (16 NE Hunter, PVP server):

I left my old pet at the stables, and tamed a new one. I gave him the name 'EcheyakeePLZ'. A Troll Mage passed by, i did a few /hello and /wave and a /point on my pet. He understood it (was a kind one), and after that he summoned Echeyakee and I was allowed to tame him. Please take in consideration that not all players are such of a kind. Anyways, it is worth trying.

I got him like this: (i tamed on hordie!)

1. As a horde, you know you have to do quests to get him, but ill be a allie now.
2. If your an allie and you wana tame a freaknig white lion, than you either force your friend, nah jk, but you either make a horde, or name your pet, 'IwantEcheyakee'(if its short enough i never tried this but i now it mite work)
3. Have patients and wait for a hordie to pass by, jump out and say hi (/hi)
4. Target pet and point at him, if the horde is kind, he will understand (49% chance that will happen) if not, kill him xD.
5. Let the hordie summon Echeyakee and snach him.

P.S. if you want it shorter, you can do /e which means you can tell the horde(Ex: /e plz dont kill him, i want white lion!) GL HF!

It's been said, but I'll reiterate. The way to get Echeyakee on Alliance is to stalk his lair until someone happens to come spawn him. Don't take the easy way out by having a horde buddy do it for you or do the lame thing and get the level 60 one. If you want Echeyakee as a pet, do it right. You might even have some fun PvP while you're waiting. I got him on my Night Elf hunter -at- level 16, as that just seemed "right" to me. And I stalked The Barrens until it happened, hearthing to Ratchet between playing sessions.

Did the quest line with my Horde Warlock. I blew the horn and ran up the hill. I logged out and logged in my Night Elf whom of which is already in the area. He logged in I clicked tame and thats that. Easy.

If you summon Echeyakee and another person not in your group kill him before you do, then you have to abandon the quest and run all the way back to Crossroads to get another horn. So if you happen to be in the area and another Horde makes the call, be a pal and DO NOT ATTACK!

Beating echeyakee is easy, check my screen of it :D. I wanted to make normal screen, but when I summoned him, he attacked me, so I made the screen while fighting.

in response to above posters question, he is a spawned mob from a horde only quest from the crossroads of the same name, so if your alliance it might be a bit hard to get him, hehe i have both those pets on my hunter, there awesome. but yeh if you want this as an alliance hunter it may take some effort or some help from a hordie

i got this on my 29 dwarf twink...had a friend make a level 10 horde in 2 hours and i helped him through the quest when i was level 16 (letting him tag the mobs, and i would kill them) and alas the white lion was mine. i get lots of comments from very jealous alliance hunters : P

I was able to tame this pet right at 16. I grouped with a 16 shaman (my bf) and he also had this quest. I used my horn to call him and tame him, and once I tamed (and fed him), he used his horn to summon and kill him and we were both able to loot the pelt for the quest. :) No need to abandon the quest. (That's a long walk back to Crossroads.)

This pet does excellent DPS but for some reason he doesn't seem to hold aggro as well as my Dragonhawk. I still love both his looks and his damage though.

Very beautiful cat. If you're a hunter, I would at least recommend giving him a try... this is the only white lion in the game except for a summoned level 60 in Winterspring, who is difficult to train with the help of his mate attacking you.
I didn't have to fight any of the other lions at all. I carefully pulled him, tamed him, abandoned the quest, picked it up again and got another horn, and called him in the same spot where I killed him.
I named mine Leo, and I've had him since level 17 (now I'm level 78) because he is such a great pet. Not only is he a frosty white rare lion, but he has good DPS, and holds aggro for me.

My story of this pet is really funny! As a 30 dwarf hunter i got to barens after checking all the pets to tame one golden lion... after doing so, i got at the point where echeyakee just 4 fun and accidentaly sow a 17 horde trying to tame it but couldnt make it:P so i rapidly made a shot to it, dunno why, then tamed it succesfuly, as the horde's tame was canceled! im gona make lots of bets as i feel greately lucky today! Respect 4 hunters!

Well, I just got him as a 31 Night Elf Hunter. I'm on the RP realm Wyrmrest Accord, so, I was able to make a horde character on my same account. Here's how I did it:

I wanted to play around with a pally, so, had to be a Blood Elf. Got him to level 12, then took the translocation orb from the spire in Silvermoon to Undercity. From there, hop on the zeppelin to Orgrimmar and run to Crossroads. You CAN pick up the chain to lead to the Echeyakee quest itself without having to do the lead in from Thunder Bluff; I point this out only because there was some confusion. From that point onwards, it becomes very straightforward. Park your horde toon at 55.17, get your alliance hunter to that same spot, log over, summon, log back to hunter and there it is.

All in all, it took about 3 hours of play time to get Echey on an Alliance hunter. That's really not bad at all, considering how few people will have him on your realm depending on its age. Beautiful cat, be with me all the way to endgame, along with Mangeclaw.

Best of luck to all the hunters out there who take the time and have the patience to get some of the rare and wonderful animals in the game.

I got Echeyakee on my nightelf hunter as a lowbie on the tortheldrin server. I was either just high enough to tame him, or maybe a level or two more.

I ran down to the barrens with hotkeys made of /beg and /point so I could beg and point when horde spawned him hoping someone may let me tame him. I got farmed repeatedly by horde while they laughed at me. I went to the spawn point standing on the little hill in back of it and was attacked by a druid that strolled up. I just stood there while he dotted and nuked, but he stopped right before I died.

Next thing I know he spawns Echeyakee and starts to kill him. Once the druids health dropped enough and before he could kill him I attack and kill the druid. I can't exactly remember if I shadowmelded, bandaged or ate after that. Anyhow I tamed Echeyakee, just as the druid shows up from rezzing. I get killed by the druid of course but I come back and farm the druid with my new Echeyakee while I spam /thanks. Then he brought a rogue friend and they killed me so I had to leave. I got a good LOL! out of it anyhow, just thought I would share 8).

If you just stand around there and are low enough level someone may flag themselves not thinking. Or you could use a low level bud as bait to try the same thing.

I have to give it up to Nathiestx above. I really wanted this pet for my Alliance hunter (level 40 Night Elf) but don't know any hordie toons, and the thought of standing on the side of the road emoting my brains out, trying to get some random hordie to cooperate with me, (or worse, ganking one) seemed iffy and a pain, at best.

So I took my Night Elf over to the Barrens and parked him at the Kodo bones where Echeyakee spawns.

Then, I jumped over to my level 21 blood elf, got myself to the Barrens, and did the series of hunting quests that led up to summoning our white beauty. Easy work at level 21, took about 20 minutes. I got the horn, took it to the bones, killed the other lions, so as not to get distracted, and blew the horn and summoned Echeyakee. He appeared, and I immediately logged off, sweating the whole way.

"There's no way this is going to work. There's no way this is going to work."

Logged onto my night elf, who was standing right on the spot, and there, right in front of me, was the glorious white lion. Hit tame beast, done and done. Had him all to myself. The whole thing took less than 30 minutes.

Thanks to Nathiestx for the advice! I NEVER would have thought of this option on my own!

I just tamed Echeyakee on my lvl 23 draenei hunter. It took a few days, but I did it. Here's what I did:

None of my guildies had a horde toon on this server to help me, so I posted on my server's official wow forum soliciting help but no one responded. And there was no way I was going to sit around and hope for the rare friendly horde to summon and let me tame Echeyakee.

So I made a fresh horde toon. I recommend rolling an orc or a troll since their starting zone is Durotar, very near the Barrens where the Echeyakee quest line starts. Once you hit level 10, one of the quest givers at Razor Hill in Durotar will give you a quest to talk to Sergra Darkthorn at the Crossroads in the Barrens to start the Echeyakee quest line. Or you can go to her directly once you are level 10.

The first quest is killing plainstriders for their beaks. They are level 11 and 12's so fairly doable (though difficult) with my level 10 troll rogue. After you turn that one in, you have to kill zebras and collect the hoofs. The zebras are level 13 and 14, so you will pretty much need help at this point. I just ran around the crossroads asking if anyone could help me. I ended up partying up with a helpful lowbie and finished that quest. The next one is even higher level - killing the savannah prowlers which are level 14 and 15. I was lucky and got an 80 to kill a bunch for me so I could collect the claws.

After you turn in the prowler quest, you can pick up the horn to summon Echeyakee. At this point you want to have your alliance toon stationed and ready near the bone pile where you summon him. Make sure your current pet is either stabled, or abandon the one you have. Clear the area of the other lions so they don't get in the way as you are trying to pull this off - I was able to do this with my horde toon at lvl 11. Blow the horn and you will see Echeyakee appear. Immediately log out and log back on with your alliance toon. Echeyakee will still be there to start taming =)

The only trouble with taming Shy-Rotam in Winterspring is that these days not a lot of people quest there. Most player upon hitting lvl58 immediately head for Outland.

Of course there is nothing stopping them going back to Wintersping and doing the quest chain to summon Shy-Rotam at a later date.

As my NE hunter,I had tamed Pitch a few times,then dropped him to pick up other pets.
When I decided I liked the black lion better,I went and tamed Humar,just to be a little different from Pitch,and named him Humarous.

However,when I was leveling my horde druid and picked up the Echey quest,I decided to switch,since you see Pitch/Humar everywhere,but very few Echey.

Usually when I do horde/alli co-operation I dual box it,but couldn't this time.So I ran the NE to barrens,logged,logged into horde acct and summoned Echey,logged out and back in as NE.

I was lucky,and no horde had come along and tamed/killed Echey.Tamed him and glad I did.Much as I like the black lion,the white one is a lot rarer as Alli,and looks great.

On a side note,any other hunters think we should have dual stables for dual specs?
Really tired of having to drop a pet I like to tame another,but then,I'm obsessive/compulsive.

Any level 19 alliance hunter twink who wants a cat, this one's the most awesome one to get, without any doubt. Takes some time, but I think as a twink not just the kind of pet matters, a rare skin proving you put much work on it is also a real plus. I myself have a 19 troll hunter twink with Ghost Saber for PVE and a ravager for PVP. Wouldn't want any different :)

I had a tough time getting the horde to tag themselves and I tried naming my trash pet something I could emote at to try and get my point across. But after about 2 hours, only about 6 horde came by and none of them seemed to understand what I was trying to do or didn't care to help.

Since I was on a PvP server that is majorly horde, I didn't really want to advertise my position via a level one alt to ask for help, so I conned a friend into rolling a horde death knight. He got out of the starting zone, did the small chain, and summoned it for me. Was pretty quick and easy.

Echeyakee stays up for a little while after being summoned, so it might be do-able on your own if you can't talk a friend into it and can log out and back in quick enough.

In Cataclysm, Echeyakee has a new spawn location at 44,47 in the new zone of the Northern Barrens. As the new zone is roughly half the size of the old, all or the old co-ords will now be significantly wrong.

After the Shattering, the quest dealing with Echeyakee has changed. Now you can "slay OR subdue" him... meaning young hunters wanting their white lion pet will be able to kill two birds with one stone! I tested this myself while working on Loremaster on my 80, and yes, taming Echeyakee will give you credit for the quest. :)

Echeyakee is still available with patch 4.03. Since it is a Horde quest it would take some cooperation for an Alliance hunter to get this cat. To make him unstealth look for his attribute buttons. The one that is green and blue with yellow eyes and has a glowing yellow line is his stealth button. Left click on it to stop stealth mode and right click on it to put him back in it.

Being a human hunter, I hung around the summoning spot for Echeyakee. Decided to tab out to read up on some other pets, came back to see that a goblin had pulled it to me and almost died trying to get my attention to let me tame it. Tamed it within seconds, thanked him and went on my way. Wasn't bad waiting less then 10 mins.

Love love this pet. I obtained him when I was lvl 70...from the wintergrasp quest. The quest was bugged n Siam would not show up. I ended up "dropping and redoing" the quest about 23 times and even sent a complaint to blizzard before the fixed it and he showed up. I almost died of shock because I was just trying once more before bed and BAM he came out. I was so shocked I forgot to icetrap and was bout to half health before I dropped it lol. I ice trapped him and then killed his "mate" and then tamed him. It was very easy. He does great dmg, and has been a great pet. I just tamed Loque'nahak so I use Siam for my MM tree and Loque for BM tree. Love this pet! I also heard they did something with the quest and just made him a rare spawn but I dunno if this is true. Good luck hunting! =)

I just tamed him on my hunter and he doesn't seem to have the prowl ability anymore. Is this a glitch or what? I definitely want to use that ability, but now I can't.

Edit: I also tamed another cat and he didn't have prowl either. They both randomly got it later at some point. Not sure what was going on, but now it's happened to a third cat. Will see when she gets her prowl now.

The Alliance can tame Echeyakee. I have him on my ally hunter. What is required is either luck or a willing horde.

Echeyakee is only in world after being summoned for the quest Echeyakee lvl 10 horde quest, from the crossroads, Sergra Darkthorn
So, if you can get a horde to summon him and not kill him before you tame him you can get him, or just have a friend level a horde alt to summon. The quest is available to all horde classes/races.

You could literally line up hunters to tame him and just keep summoning him. You don't even need to abandon the quest if he is tamed by someone else, BUT the quest is completed if YOU tame him. Just did it. and the quest completed just by the summoning horde taming him.

I can confirm as of May 26, 2011 I got credit as a goblin hunter just for taming him. Didn't have to re-summon and kill him to complete the quest.

Excellent advice from Sequnix - tamed a Savannah Huntress, named her EcheyakeePls, went to The Crossroads and got PvP flagged to generate 'interest', back to bones spawn point (44,47), waited all of 3 mins and a very kind Blood Elf Paladin showed up and summoned Echeyakee for me twice! (first time I was too stunned and didn't dismiss my pet before it killed Echeyakee lol)

I did tame another Huntress called ThanksSunvold and landed next to Sunvold in The Crossroads, dismounted and waved before I got chased out of town and died lol.

I have tried and tested it and i now have Echeyakee on my worgen hunter, summon Echeyakee with a horde alt log out then back on to your ally alt and tame. It took a total of 5min which over 4min of was moving my two characters into place. Here is a really simple guide to get Echeyakee without any assistance at all from the opposing faction.
1.move ally character right next to the bone pit.
2.get quest with any horde alt and go to the bone pit, were you summon Echeyakee.
3.summon Echeyakee, and as soon as you here the horn blow start logging out don't wait to see Echeyakee. (you will get attacked for about 8secs while logging out just DON"T panic and touch your keyboard)
4.log back in with ally character and tame away, Echeyakee will be wondering around right by the bone pit

Ps: don't do what i did and have to many pets with you lol, had to abandon one while trying to tame Echeyakee still got him on my first try, well good luck!

I had the quest on my Troll hunter and finished it, then went off to do another quest. At one point I passed by the spot again and noticed that I still had the horn, so I re-summoned him and tamed him. Renamed him Siberia.

An interesting note, Eceyakee is tagged as a male NPC by Vlud's Target Sex Mod. Even the Savannah Huntresses (and other such beasts) aren't tagged besides as "Unknown", despite their namesakes. So far, I have only seen Echeyakee and all foxes tagged (both cases as male).

So many posts yet noone has yet to post which quest one must do to summon him. Not much of a quest-doer myself so I'd be very helpful if someone would state the quests needed to get to him.

I had one of my Horde friends do the guest so I could get him on an Alliance toon. Nice pet, and one that not everyone has.

i LOVE training this guy with my hunters. really unique skin. i like having Humar the Pridelord as well; two lions, identical except for their coloring, (especially black and white) are a really cool combination to have active at all times.

for those who want to actually find this guy and not wade through 6 pages of txt about hunters looking for a pet just go to 55,16. The dot on the map is wrong.

I tamed him, spent a long time getting a horde to level 10 to summon him. Then long time to get my level 15 alliance over to him. I couldn't be happier, from the blue eyes to the snow colored fur. Gorgeous. I named him Yuki, which is the japanese word for snow.

Tamed this kitty a couple days ago when my hunter was level 13. It was a pretty easy tame, just blew the horn and there the white lion was. A very nice pet I have to say!

I just got the wwhite lion pet from this mission... used a low lvl alt and got the mission to spawn him.. Looks good.. Going after the black one next.. i hope it spawns

Thought was just a regular NPC until realized must be summoned with a horn/quest.

Quest starts at Crossroads, 52.3-31.0
Echeyakee found at 55.9-17.2

I started the quest, found his location, killed all the lions before summoning. Then laid out the freeze trap and started taming. Abandon the quest, go back, get the quest again and finish as normal.

Now I have Echeyakee and Humar the Pridelord... I really wish we could have 2 pets active at once. :D

FYI you can get this quest at level 11, but you can't tame him until you are 15 (or higher) because he spawns a level 15 cat.

You don't have to kill the other nearby cats. Just observe them and you see they patrol in a predicable circuit. If you kill them they just re-spawn really quickly - almost instantly. If you kill them you will just have to fight them off again. It's easier to wait until they pat away and then blow the horn.

Special note: The magical rapid-respawn cats near his lair are great for farming leather. I just stand in one place and kill the same one over and over. By the time you skin the corpse there is a new one. It's not a bug, it's intentional: Blizzard put them there to harass people who are trying to do the quest. It's the way it has always been.

You old timers might remember his lair used to be in a different spot. The insta-cats were there too. It's part of the quest setup.

If your ally and have some spare time and really want the pet. You can level a horde toon to 10, get and complete the 2 starter quests, then you'll get the quest to summon go summon, and log over to your hunter and he should still be there to tame. :)

If you have more than one computer, there is a very easy way.
Make a free to play wow account, same realm as your toon is on, make a horde player, and get it to lvl 13 (takes a couple hours, you could spend that time just waiting for someone to show up) go to crossroads and get the quest. 1st quest giver if you run into town. You have to kill 5 zebras and 5 cats turn those 2 quests in then you get the quest to get the horn to call him,. If you have 2 computers, have the Horde toon you made call him, make sure your alliance is there ready to go. Having a laptop next to your desktop is the easiest.
It don't take long to make a free account, and once you get the cat, you can always help friends get it as well. Have a big come get a cat day. there is a 30 second cool down on the horn, so it don't take long to just keep calling more.
See, them free starter games can be useful. Don't finish the quest for the Horde toon, keep the horn, and you can do it any time. Leave that horde toon at the cross roads inn, ready for more cat calls.

I got mine way back in BC when a friend went on his horde toon to summon him for me. He's been a fave ever since. Also have the Dark Prowler. :)

Now I know my comments suck..but that's because I'm a newby here,and it's challenging to at least get an up voted comment. But I'd just like to thank this panda,known as Fedsheeno-Zul'jinn,for helping me obtain my great white lion,Whitemist (Echeyakee)! Also good thanks to my friend,Lyrendra (her alt that helped) And is formerly known as Sonorra. She was able to CRZ me to Hellscream to get the help from the panda (I am on The Venture Co. so help is scarce,and now I think it is finally able to CRZ for some reason) Thank you both for my newest pet now named Entei! (after the legendary lion pokemon)

EDIT: Remembered this...when my troll tamed Whitemist with the quest,it didn't count. So you will have to re-call him to kill for quest.

You can find him injured and under attack by a felhound during the invasions. If you save him he'll follow you and help you fight the demons. I thought it was a nice touch to see a vanilla quest target helping us out.

Beast Mastery Hunters could, once upon a time, fulfill the Echeyakee Quest by taming him without killing him. After a certain patch (the specific one I do not know), however, if you want to tame Echeyakee you'll have to tame him, summon him again, and then kill him alongside his previous incarnation, lol.

You know,it says that Echeyakee has a unique White/Grey skin,but Sian-Rotam has the same skin.
At what point do we consider things no longer 'unique'?

I remember taming this one, way back in TBC... *sigh* fond memories... don't nearly play that hunter, as much as I used to anymore.
