Simple boss, tank and spank basicly.

Just like the frostlord during the Summerfestival it spawns frost spikes only alot of them.
Just before they grow to full size they appear smaller on the floor, simply move of them before they grow to full size.
When the spikes grow to full size they will throw you high up the air and you will take damage.

It should also be noted that he goes into a frenzy at a low percent of health, around 10%-15%. It increases his attack strength by 100%.

On Heroic there isn't much dfference to this encounter other than he probably hits a bit harder. We had him tanked on the premade server by a warrior in the premade PvP gear and we got him down with little trouble. The time that it takes for the frost spikes to pop up is rather long and gives you plenty of time to get out of the way. Only thing to note is for casters to be aware of his reflect magic ability so you don't crit yourself t death. On my lock I wasn't ready for his reflect and DoT'd myself, didn't die though but if I had been spamming incinerate I'd be one dead warlock.

Begin tanking Ormorok in the middle of the platform where he stands, having your party spread out around you. This is so that none of the small flowers will agro your party during the fight if they happen to heal to full before you have killed Ormorok.

Every so often, Ormorok will cast Crystal Spikes that will shoot out from his feet in four directions. These shards will be small at first, grow larger, and then spike up. They are easy to avoid, but if you are caught on top of one, it tosses you up into the air causing 2500 damage per second over three seconds. If you are tossed up into the air, you will take fall damage and unless topped off, will most likely die so it is very important to avoid these spikes at all costs. Ormorok also casts spell reflect that has four charges and must be used up before the shield disappates. Casters can use lower rank spells or keep casting a damage over time spell until the shield is gone. Ormorok will also enrage, increasing his damage. As long as all party members are able to stay away from the spikes, and the healer can keep the tank topped off, the fight will go smoothly.

The crystal spikes come straight out in the N E S W direction, so if you just stand NW, NE, SW, or SE of him, the spikes will always miss.

Basic tank-and-spank. Avoid the crystal spikes. Enrage can be dispelled. My "Tranquilizing Shot" missed, but the other Hunter hit him and he lost his Enrage. Either that or he only Enrages for about 5-10 seconds.

On Heroic Mode, Ormorok spawns the little flowers which will root you in place. You must kill them to avoid being entangled, otherwise depening on class you will have trouble avoiding the spikes.

Odd. His loot-table doesn't appear to be loading... Some kind of WoWHead bug or do you obtain loot from him in some sort of unusual way (a la Ramparts)?

As an engineer, I realized I could use my cloak with Flexweave Underlay to slow fall after being spiked in the air. Saved my life, and enabled me to finish tanking him. After patch 3.0.8 mages can just cast Slow Fall on everyone.

easiest way to do it i found was to have all ur party just stand below him, only dmg ull take will be his trample that hits for about 3k on cloth(he uses it about every 20 sec so its no big deal), and u wont have to worry about the spikes or the flowers cuz theyll come to the tank

As a warlock if you do accidentally get spiked and sent flying into the air, if you laid down a demonic circle beforehand, just teleport back to it and avoid the fall damage.

We found it much easier to have everyone stack on the tank. Just stay at his feet and nuke em, thus avoiding all of the spikes. Makes it much easier on the healer..

The seed guys that you kill before this boss give an aura that does +4/+2% hp and mana regen and 25% damage reduction. Does this just turn off if you fight the boss near them in pod form? It seem like it would be insanely easy to do this boss if you could tank him where the aura takes effect

As a mage, you can dampen yourself and soak up his spell reflect charges with a few quick ice lances. You'll take only a small amount of damage and is especially helpful if you have tanks with spell-based abilities.

There is a short delay before his spikes activate. Just step off the spots when they show up and keep nuking him.

Just got done tanking this guy as a lvl 72 DK. I had tanked him about 3 times before with no problems so thought this one was gonna be a breeze... was fighting him about 15 seconds through and "BAM MAN HANDLE WUT" i got hit for 11.8k :| died and group had to finish him off lol but, it was pretty funny in the end :p maybe i just got lucky and caught him at a bad time? and yes I have pretty decent gear lol

most of the time he drops these shoulders they arent very uncommon to loot but ive only done it twice and he droped it both times

Tank advice on heroic mode (from the furry lips of a bear)

Stay roughly between Ormorok's legs to avoid the spikes and move with him. Drag him over to the right hand side of the ring, near the entrance ramp so that his back is up against the wall (you'll see a column behind him).

If you can get him to this sweet spot he won't move again and you can pretty much stand between his legs and tank him there for the rest of the fight (avoiding all spike damage without having to move).

I had my healer (a holy pally) stand right next to me so they were able to avoid the spikes without moving too, thus were able to concentrate on avoiding his spell reflect as it came up.

AOE DPS (warlock, hunter, mage) found that by standing in the middle of the ring (once I'd moved Ormorok to the sweet spot) they were able to avoid all spike damage and adds damage.

The name Ormorok may be a reference to the word Omoroka, which is the word for Buddhism nirvana, or freedom from the cycle of material existence. Not quite sure how this can relate to the boss, at least not without leaving a few gaps in logic =P

If I made a wild guess, Ormorok is a servant of Malygos, who wishes to purge the world of magic. Magic ~ Material Existence? I'll leave that up to you guys.

I soloed him as a prot warrior, a long time ago, may be easier now with better gear. Just avoid the spikes and it's easy

At heroic they changed something in the patch.
As lots of casters know, when you stand in the outer ring, the flowers will attack you and most likely kill you. To prevent this you stay near the boss.
But since the latest patch we get rooted while standing near the boss, and attacked by flowers as well.

On normal

I was a healer and when one of the spikes hit me i lost about 6000 hp but i easily healed it up(but avoid them, thats best :) and if you can, bring in one of those flower things and get the Aura of Regeneration which gives 4% hp and 2% mana. Place it with the tank or with the dps's to easily PWN this guy!

Soloable on Normal by level 78 Blood DKs if for any reason you want to. The trash leading up to him will probably kill you a few times, but he himself is easy. He and the trash mobs are worth reasonably decent exp if you've got heirlooms and rested - he himself gave 22500 after those bonuses, which is about what the Warders and Magi at the entrance to the instance give if soloed at 74.

i found myself dead when i had cast starfire on him, and he ofc, reflected my own spell against me. i got crit over 5900-6100. i also am blind at this boss, becouse i always stand on crystal spikes )= crystal spikes + my bomb crit = me dead =D

but i always find joy from mining him to pieces ! (=====

It would appear that the minimum mining skill required on Heroic is now 455, as of patch 4.0.3. This may not necessarily be classified as a "bug", but it could very well be an unintended side-effect with the upcoming expansion and all...
