Head to Ohn'ahran Plains and find a Centaur hut with clickable Essence of Awakening at /way #2023 85.71 20.73
Interacting will apply a 1-hour Essence of Awakening buff on you to enable seeing residual spirit elements in the Ohn'ahran Plains. (unfortunately the buff is removed on death, but the object seems to be clickable again after a few seconds so no longer a problem compared to the Beta)
Only with that buff active you can see Ancestor Spirits for the Honor Our Ancestors achievement and The Quackcestor critters in the Primordial Vale area /way #2023 42 45.
Some of them are wild pet battles (with 2 teammates) so go and capture yours!

The steps described within this toggler are no longer needed because Blizzard added one or more clickable Essence of Awakening object(s) last minute (Dragonflight release date patch) that don't even require Level 70. No idea why they kept that weird purchase and level requirement for the original stuff...

~~You need to be Level 70 to apply the mandatory Essence of Awakening buff.~~
~~You'll need Maruuk Centaur Renown Level 7 to access the buff item (or a friend who has it and is willing to trade the Essence).~~
With that Renown you (or your friend) can get one Essence of Awakening by completing Good at Doings, Not Understandings (pops up when you reach that Renown Level on one character, so you can get more free ones on other characters).
~~This will also unlock its purchase (1x Occasional Sand + 50x Dragon Isles Supplies) at their Renown Quartermaster Huseng /way #2023 60.39 37.72~~
~~This item will be consumed when used and applies a 1 hour Essence of Awakening buff.~~

This is actually WAY simpler. As the other comment says, you can find the Essence at 86,21 - it's inside a tent with what looks like a chemistry set, one of the containers there on your left as you enter the tent.
Get it, fly to the 42,45 area and capture your duck! I did it on a Level 64 toon that had barely started in the Plains, so actually no real Renown needed either going this route.

I'm at the spot, with the buff and there's nothing to be seen. Been here over an hour...how long do I have to wait, even assuming that someone captured the last spawn seconds before I arrived!

You can find these as a rare spawn once you have the buff.

They respawn VERY, VERY quickly. So don't be afraid to kill them until you get a rare and/or specific breed you are looking for.
I only spent about 15 minutes going around the circle of their spawn area, killing until a rare spawned for me to capture!

For those looking for the hut at 86/20... it's not inside the camp at Timberstep Outpost. Take the path that leads north out of the camp (it's the path that starts next to Agurahl the Butcher), and the hut is just ahead on the right. The essence is on a small table on the left, inside the hut, it's a small bright purple item, very easy to see amonst all of the brown.
