Ardenweald, West of the entrance to Mists of Tirna Scithe at 30.6,55.0 .
He patrols along the steep hill there.
Has approx 766k health, and a buff named Misty Veil, preventing him from being hit - couldn't find a means to remove it, but it's not perfect and occaisionally shots still landed, particularly using Resonating Arrow.
However, there is an elite pack of mobs tied to The Wild Hunt faction, led by Krrprripripkraak . They can damage him, and will engage if you pull him to them. They were able to kill him, and I was still able to loot at the end.
Dropped Wild Glimmerfur Prowler , but unsure if is guaranteed.

The boss has a buff called Misty Veil, which causes him to dodge all incoming attacks. There is a Sparkling Animaseed nearby (should be 30.45, 55.54) which will give you a one time ability that can be used on the boss to dispell the buff for 5 minutes. (The egg respawns after around 4 minutes allowing you to keep dispelling him). Dropped Glimmerfur Prowler for everyone in the group. Seems to be 100% drop in beta right now.

How to summon Valfir the Unrelenting:

be a member of the Night Fae Covenant
complete the First Chapter in the Night Fae Campaign (For Queen and Grove!)
speak with Zayhad, The Builder in Heart of the Forest to unlock the Anima Conductor rank 1
speak with Sesselie to grab the quest The Roots Thirst and unlock the Anima Conductor
upgrade the Anima Conductor to rank 3
use Anima Conductor and channel anima to Tirna Scithe
go to Tirna Scithe
interact with Sparkling Animaseed to get the speel Animaseed Light to remove the dodge buff from the rare
kill the rare

/way 38.6, 55.3 Zayhad (lower level)
/way 50,4, 63,8 Sesselie (lower level)

You need to

pick up Sparkling Animaseed
use Animaseed Light extra action button on rare to remove immun Misty Veil

You can see and pick up Sparkling Animaseed only if you are

Night Fay Covenant player
Your Anima Conductor channeling the Tirna Scithe
Anima Conductor is located in the Heart of the Forest main Night Fay hub

Other players, without Night Fay Covenant, can participate in the kill and get the loot, just need 1 person who can pick up the item.

Killed this in a group of five (Hunter x 2, Rogue, Tank & Healer) while the buff was still up. Seemed like our two Hunter pets did about 50% of the damage, and could actually hit the mob. Took us about five minutes.

It did not drop anything, neither the mount nor a "begins a quest" or anything similar. We might have been unlucky, but could also be something to do with us "not being supposed to kill it" (not removing the buff).

He is killable without debuffing him, but you can only dmg him when he casts dreadful roar, and people like to interrupt that pretty quickly.

The mount is not 100% drop on live!

This rare also has a chance to drop the Night Fae Soulshape form called Shadowstalker that has a similar model to Kaldorei Nightsaber.

For those confused as to what things like the Anima Conductor and Tirna Scithe are, this has to do with the Sanctum Rese rvoir in the area which only Night Fae can use. You need to choose the Anima Conductor upgrade and get it to its third tier to be able to unlock "Flowing Power" which will help in the process of getting this rare killed.

You can AoE the rare down though it will take some effort or a large raid, but I just did this in a group and there was no mount drop.

I just want to clarify that the soulshape form DOES DROP without getting the debuff down. It takes a lot more time but we did it in a raid group and I got the quest that got me the form. So you don't need to have the debuff, it just helps getting him down faster

Killed him through his veil today with a raid group, he didn't drop anything for non- nightfae, but I got the Soulshape mentioned in other comments here. What just surprised me is that I can buy the Wild Glimmerfur Prowler from Elwyn for 5000 Anima and 75 Grateful Offering no rep requirement, I don't know if it was there before I killed him. Would love if someone could confirm!

I killed him with his buff still on because we had no one to debuff him. Did it with a large number of other players, no one got the mount. We killed him due to him being vulnerable to damage during his "slam" ability. Was a very slow process...

Just did this no animaseed spawned so could only kill while stomping I also didn't get the mount drop (I am nightfae so I did get the soulshape) I guess it's not 100% chance anymore?

Killed him just now with a 40 man group, didn't remove the debuff. One person got the mount, despite multiple people in the raid claiming the mount cannot drop unless you actually use the seed.

Hello All,

I just wanted to share that I got the mount at 4:20 pm CST through a ~40ish man raid (people kept leaving due to us not having the seed, so it fluctuated drastically between 10-40). I wasn't actually able to hit him with my spells on my boomkin; I was only able to damage him with the leeching sting dot. Just wanted to share that we never found the animaseed light. I am a member of the fae covenant, but I have only gone as far as starting the quest Into the Reservoir (0/9 chapters). I am not sure if any of this information will help, but I thought I should share with all the confusion surrounding getting the mount.

We were like 12 people, dropped for 1, without removing the buff.
He hits like a truck, make sure you have 1 tank 1 healer to be safe

Basically to put concisely some things you should know about fighting Valfir:

No you do not need the seed to take off the debuff to kill him.

Yes you can kill him even with the debuff on.

Yes he still drops the mount even with the debuff on. It seems to be a lower drop rate then some other mounts from bosses but it still drops.

A short guide on getting him over quickly with debuff on (so if no one has seed):

1. Auto attack (if dps), heal (if healer and make sure you heal your pets hunters and warlocks!), keep aggro (if tank).
2. When he casts his aoe fear CANCEL IT! And then quickly pop a cooldown
3. Attack for the few seconds he smashes on the ground
4. Repeat. Make sure you save your big attacks for when he smashes on the ground. He will dodge your attacks at any other time.

If you have a good sized group this boss shouldn't take too long which gives you enough time to add some people into the group even as you're getting him pretty low in health.

Has anyone NOT in Night Fae gotten the mount from Valfir? I've only ever seen people who are in the Night Fae covenant get the mount in the groups I've been in.

If the world quest "A Night in the Woods" happens to be up you can rather easily do this rare! Luring Valfir to the Patrol npcs will cause them to also attack. While doing this WQ this morning a Guardian Druid lured him over. There were maybe 6 or 7 of us total but still killed this guy in fairly short order.

Was able to solo him by kiting into the world quest "A night in the woods". They can damage him even when he isn't casting. Was pretty easy. That WQ is currently up at the time of writing this. Goodluck!

Not sure if blizzard buffed him, but he is really hard to kill now, even with massive AOEs. This was not the case before. Tried with multiple groups.

Edit: The mount is still dropping.

they gave him a 99% damage reduction on top of the avoid buff , took us 30min to kill him and we got a mount drop so keep going ;)

As per the 4th December Hotfix:

Valfir the Unrelenting has bolstered his defense, making oncoming attacks much less effective. Players that wish to take down the beast will first need to send anima to this location to unlock the key to Valfir's demise.

Valfir the Unrelenting will no longer wander quite so far from his spawn.

I believe Blizz hates us doing it old way. If you want to down him now, prepare for 30+ minutes of pain.

Can confirm he can still be killed by AOE abilities even after the Dec 4th buff to his veil. Took my full raid group 58 min 49 seconds, according to my Details. One person got the mount.

They just patched him. You can technically still damage him with aoe, but the damage you're able to do to him has been reduced tremendously. We did it with about a full raid party+dozens of others who dropped in, and it took well over 30 minutes. We used punching bags on the ground near him to allow aoes to hit him. Can confirm it still dropped the mount for two people.

But I'd just wait until night fae members have access to their anima power at this point.

Blizzard is great. Fails to test the game. Players exploit their lack of testing and get the mount, no beef with them mind you. The rest of us? Hotfixed see yeah whenever.

Update after the patch bolstering his shield: AOE DAMAGE IS INEFFECTIVE
Class&Spec Signature moves have a 100% chance of hitting Valfir.

Rogues: Ambush
Spec specific-Outlaw=BTE > Subtelty=Shadowstrike

Unholy DK=Virulent Plague & Unholy Blight

Paladins - Judgment

Warlock > Destruction=Soul Rot

Gonna test some more and update this comment,
so far, I'd say the most efficent kill would be a group of 5-10 people made of Paladin Tanks&Healers & Sub rog DPS,
Outlaw can outshine the SUB rog if you drop a trunip next to Valfir, allowing him to CD reduction on his BTE thanks to the "Restless blades" passive.

He is downable, it takes time. And only certain skills are effective. Yes AoE hits, but not with high damage.

What I learned today was as an assassination rogue (don't judge) the only things guaranteed to hit were Fan of Knives, Shiv, and Crimson Tempest. All the rest are just you flexing and looking stylish whilst dying.

It took us approximately 40 minutes to kill him with a full raid and a nearly full horde raid, it looked like.

Fury warriors (Venthyr): If you have turnip around, target turnip and whirlwind, then use raging blow and condemn, it does damage boss pretty much, other are useless. Also, Heroic and Shattering throw works, but low dps and cd...

Just did him solo with my prot pala, can confirm that judgement deals its full dmg, so everytime you use judgement he takes around1.6k dmg, took while to kill him tho, loot: Faeweald amber, 500 rep

Just confirmed with Night Fae Anima Conductor Rank 3: Valfir has 100% droprate for the Shadowstalker soul for Night Fae players. The mount did NOT drop for a ~25 man raid group. Unknown if the mount drops at all. Could still be a 1-2% drop rate like when it was observed before the patch that removed him from pathing.

If a Night Fae Player activates the area to enable Valfir, they will a) need to click on a Sparkling Anima Seed then b) click an ability button that will remove the shield so he can be attacked normally.

Encountered a bug on this one...this first time or two that I hit Valfir with the seed ability it worked to remove the debuff but after that it stopped doing anything altogether. I left instance and joined again to see if it would work but after that I wasn't able to loot the seed at all until he was down so be careful that this seems to reset. Had enough people in the raid party to slowly AOE him down but it took a LONG time.

I just killed him with a group of 10 players after having unlocked the third level of the Anima Conductor and channeling it to Tirna Scithe. The fight is easy once you get his buff off and completely doable with a smaller group. He dropped one Ardendew Pearl and nothing else since I already had the Shadowstalker Soul from an earlier kill before he was patched.

I have killed this guy four times now, once before he was hotfixed to only spawn when he is channeled there and three times after the hotfix (but only once while I had Tirna Scithe channeled personally). He dropped the Shadowstalker Soul on the first kill,my friend who is also Night Fae got it from their first kill also and I got it on a NF alt that was freshly 60 so I can confirm, as others have pointed out, that it does seem to be a 100% drop for NF players but the mount hasn't dropped so far. I can reasonably assume that the Wild Glimmerfur Prowler is NOT 100% even for NF players who dismiss his shield.

One thing to keep in mind with the seed is that it will spawn him once you pick it up however it has a limited duration, which seemed to be around 5 min, to use it otherwise you'll have to wait for the seed to respawn.

As of January 20th, 2021, Valfir has returned to the game after being removed from people killing it in the wrong way that was intended.

Currently very difficult if not impossible to solo. After his first anima seed buff falls off, the seed will be uninteractable for a long time. In addition, you can't refresh the buff during the fight because he will get the veil and become intangible again. If you can't do 700k damage in 5 mins, you won't be able to solo him

"Restrictions: Only lootable by Night Fae characters, confirmed dropping as early as level 51. Anima Conductor channel not required. "...why does this page keep saying you don't need the Anima Conductor at level3 going to get this mount when almost all the comments say you do.

If you have a targetable toy such as Turnip Punching Bag, you can use splash damage to add to your AoEs. Just downed him in a loose group of both factions. Took us about 33 minutes. I got 550 rep with the Night Fae, some Shrouded Cloth, anima, Grateful Offerings, and vendor trash and gold. I did not notice if anyone got the mount.

Edit: During the two previous Rare Resources-callings, Valfir have not dropped a single Coin of Brokerage. However, he did today. Whether it was bad RNG or the drop really is this low is unknown for me.

Killed him today with four of us (not in a party) and the mount dropped for me (6th attempt). It was a mix of Horde and Alliance, so I'm not sure if the other faction players received it, unfortunately.

Fight started off pretty slowly when it was just myself (mage) and a DH, but once a boomkin and feral druid came along, it went pretty smoothly.

The channelling does not have to be of permanent type, even the temporary channelling helps.

i am in shadowland to clean up my mounts and really weird but this guy has not been patrolling a single time i been in to check on him. He should be permanently up should he not? and you only need a nightfae to remove hes buff?
