Ogdrul is a Drogbar found in a cave above Trueshot Lodge, at the peak where Elderhorn babies walk around. He can only be found by hunters, due to the peak being part of Trueshot Lodge. He can be interacted with, but he has a mysterious text:

<Something terrible has befallen this lone wanderer.>
<If there was some way to free him he would surely be grateful.>

Currently, it seems unknown what his purpose is. Perhaps it's part of a hidden artifact appearance, or a order hall campaign.

I'm pretty sure the table to the left is a hint as to what's going on, similar to the table near Drak'thul. I've submitted a screenshot. Devs sure were all about the puzzles this expansion. Pretty cool!

It's interesting to note that Ogdrul has Rhok'delar on his back.

Perhaps connected to the not-yet-implemented Wildrunner hidden appearance for Thas'dorah, or Forest's Guardian for Talonclaw?

All of the skeletons in the cave have a hand and a leg missing. Not sure if thats significant or not.

There is shown a skeleton of some sort of bird/animal on the table next to him. Maybe you need to bring a certain pet to him to break him free?

Edit: While exploring a bit more of highmountain i came accross a really similiar cave with 2 mobs next to it. 1 Is named Dorgrub the cruel. Coordinates are 57.09 , 86.59 On the very top of the mountain.

Also there is 1 more cave at 55.01 , 90.41 thats completly empty but with the same symbols and runes on the ground.

Something that I found odd is the low quality of the rune he's standing on, and the one nearby.

I wonder if the other rune is of significance? Perhaps we need to find it's match and die/feign death in it to trigger something. As if to mirror the skeleton lying on top of the rune in the cave.

Update:
Found a cave at 54.5, 75.3 in Highmountain with a similar rune inside as the second one, plus another cave a bit south up the mountain named Echoing Halls with a stone that matches the table on Ogdrul's left: 53.9, 78.9.

I haven't seen anyone else mention this....

The rune with a skeleton on it can be found in the Neltharion's Lair dungeon, in the first boss room.
The fossil symbol on the table is also found in Neltharion's lair, in the second boss' room.
The blue crystals impaling the skeletons are also found in there, and the totem behind Ogdrul is the same as the one the second boss turns into during his shuffling phase.

The only thing I did not find in there is the rune Ogdrul is standing on, but I haven't cleared the whole place as I noticed this while doing Mythic.

Probably worth investigating.

On a whim, I decided to see if there was anything different about this cave if you go in as a ghost. And, believe it or not, there is. If you walk over the rune that he's standing on as a ghost, he vanishes. I have no idea if this is significant. Same thing happens if you stand on the table next to him as a ghost, too. Tried standing on the other rune, nothing happened.

Later on we will probably acquire an item where we can use to break binding runes for a future quest/scenario. Then those hunters who are smart to put two and two together and realize it's similar to Ogdrul's situation will go forth and use the item on him.

For those who are over analyzing the decorations in the cave Ogdrul is in, they are just reused assets that you can find in every single Drogbar area, everything from the most random of caves to quest areas, to the Drogbar base, and in the Neltharion's Lair dungeon. They most likely have zero significance to Ogdrul's situation and are merely there for theme aesthetics/decorations.

Someone use in this cave the Wardens' Revered toy that allows to see dead. Maybe there are spirits casting stuff on him.

I found a cave in the most southern part of Highmountain Summit that looked almost exactly the same as the one with Ogdrul, there was even a rune!

If I would guess, this is probably some weird Drogbar ritual where they sacrifice people with crystals. Maybe there are clues scattered around for how to reverse it?

I jumped down a cliff and ran into the cave. You can't see him or the rune he is standing on when dead. But, you can see the other rune with the skeleton.

Blizzcon 2016 essentially confirmed that Ogdrul may be a part of the Class/Spec Specific questline for Marksman that's coming in 7.2 that rewards a new hidden artifact weapon. One of the Hidden Artifact weapons pictured during the preview was an updated version of the bow that's on Ogdrul's back which is going to be named Wildrunner: http://i.imgur.com/mjBnP7I.jpg

Maybe this needs a human sacrifice. Seen the bones on the other rune? Maybe thats blizz hinting that we, as the only(?) class that can actually kill ourselves by waiting out feign death need to sacrifice ourselves for him? Anyone tried it?

Can confirm that talking to him with Rhok'delar, Longbow of the Ancient Keepers and Ancient Sinew Wrapped Lamina equipped does nothing.

Got the Wildrunner appearance today. No change in this NPC's response when I talk to him with the appearance equipped.

Here's my theory, after reading up on Rhok'delar and having a chance encounter:

Freeing Ogdrul will reward you with Rhok'delar. Having him become a follower doesn't make sense (text says he'll be grateful, suggesting a reward), there's no reason some random drogbar would have that bow, and if it was an artifact model there'd need to be four colour variants as well. Instead I'm thinking it'll just be the weapon, straight up, for transmog. It'll basically be a way for Hunters who didn't play back in the day to be able to obtain the original look. To do so, I think we might need to retrace all or some of the steps it originally required to get the bow.

Why?

Because I just today ran into Simone the Seductress during a Legion invasion in Stormheim. She, and her Gnome "pet", can be found in Felscale Cavern during the Feast of the Hounds world quest. She was one of the original four demons that Hunters had to slay to obtain the Ancient Rune Etched Stave (which was used to create the bow). I haven't had the time or opportunity to try to solo her as people come running in doing the world quest, but it's possible that we need a quest item or be on a quest before she'll drop anything anyway.

The other three demons don't appear to be in Legion, although one apparently showed up during the initial Broken Shore scenario. They may also be disguised under other names though, as they originally were. There were four demons, and there are four invasion zones as well. One demon lurking somewhere in each zone, perhaps?

There's also the question of whether or not we need an initial quest item. It could be something that drops from a boss in the Tomb of Sargeras (the original quest item Ancient Petrified Leaf came from Majordomo in Molten Core), so perhaps we simply can't start the quest yet.

Having Simone the Seductress show up and Ogdrul carrying Rhok'delar seems too much of a coincidence to me though, it can't just be a random accident.

Some random thoughts:

• Killing the four demons and acquiring the Ancient Rune Etched Stave (or similar) might be all that's needed to free Ogdrul. He's trapped by runes, and here's a staff with runes on it? It might be the key to his prison.

• The original quest line also had you gather items from black and blue dragons, to craft the bow. There's a black dragon presence in Highmountain (Spiritwalker Ebonhorn) and of course in Azsuna there are plenty of blue dragons, notably Senegos. This might not play a part since we're not actually crafting the bow (presumably), but worth mentioning.

Decided to contact a GM since I couldn't really find if anyone had done so...

My question:

Ogdrul <The Seeker>

The text says there might be some way to free him... but I have no idea what to do...

Is this NPC still actually part of something or is he left over from some cut content and am I wasting my time on him?

In Highmountain Summit, there's Dorgrud the Cruel. Cave entrance at 57.35, 86.70 He's a quest NPC for warriors and priests (I believe), but in his cave is a very similar rune with a skeleton and spikes, like the one in the cave with Ogdrul. I haven't found anything to tie them together yet, but I doubt it's a coincidence that the rune and skeleton are there. There's also the same rune standing up directly outside of the cave - like it's a Frostcrag emblem (mobs in this area are frostcrags).

Edit/update. I'm seeing the runes around all of the drogbars in the area. So, I'm guessing what needs to be found is something in Neth's Lair, since it seems to be the place centered around all of these areas.

I have no idea whether or not this could have the least bit to do with this guy, but take a look at the moose calves outside.

Most of them are "protected calves". But one of them, a white one, is simply called "Tenderhorn". It should run around just outside the cave.

Did anyone else notice the rocks to his left are hiding a hidden passage? Obviously, I can't get through, but I did notice there was an empty space on the other side....

Looks like Ogdrul is a dead end now. He probably was part of the hidden Wildrunner appearance questline before they came up with the magetower system.

The change in his text probably confirms that Blizzard scrapped him,

Used to read (7.0-7.2):

<Something terrible has befallen this lone wanderer.>

<If there was some way to free him he would surely be grateful.>

now it reads (7.2.5):

<Something terrible has befallen this lone wanderer.>

<Unfortunately, there is no way to free him.>

So either means Blizzard scrapped any plans involving Ogrul for the new Hidden Hunter Appearance, or possibly he was for some other secret which was limited time only, available prior to 7.2 or 7.2.5, something which was removed or no longer obtainable possibly.

With N'zoth's patch release, Ogdrul now appears to have been wearing corrupted gear. Since he has no corruption resistance cape he went and somehow got himself trapped from trying to mess with it on that runed magic circle.
