While the interview was heckin' long I loved watching it. Some great insight into the processes being used by Ion and the team to deliver some really great gaming content. I know that some may bicker over the fact that the raid wasn't "perfect" but the fact that employees and developers are taking the time to watch along and fix stuff on the fly like that really goes above and beyond in terms of dedication. It blows my mind when people say "they don't care" of course they do.
Corruption has some interesting ideas but you can say it needs a LOT of polishing and needs less RNG layer around it. What's fun is actually min maxing your corruption , not hoping for a good proc...
The interview is worth watching and this summary doesn't do it justice. It was a very candid interview. The answers about corruption though do make me worry going forward. They seem to be trying to make gearing so complicated that it's impossible to sim-- but that makes it hard for players too. He doesn't even really touch on the real problem with it though, which is the multiple layers of RNG that make it feel like you have no control as a player.
Blizzard gave what we don't deserves. We should be licking big character's feet while they get the killing blow on our hard earned boss kill.
Kinda a yikes if they're satisfied with N'zoth and corruption when their player base dislikes the system.
all-in-all a pretty good interview, it is nice to see ion being more straight forward in his communications than maybe we've seen in the past.Regarding his opinion on corruption:I too like corruption, I especially like that you can get by with a few pieces, instead of titan forging where you wanted ALL of your gear to be titan forged. So in that regard I think the system is great. I also didn't think I would enjoy the negative effects, but I do think it adds a really great dynamic to the game that makes you think about your choices more. But I think that when you add negative effects to items, you need to make sure the rewards are significant. I would have liked to see them focus more on buffing underperforming traits than dishing out nerfs to the good ones. Also, they just added WAY TOO MANY effects, so getting the ones you want is very very difficult. Also I think certain effects should be spec based. I don't want tank traits on my DPS gear. That said, Yes echoing void was really powerful, but I also die a lot to the thing from beyond, and the eye of corruption, and the slows that proc constantly are annoying as all hell and make it hard to get out of the way of mechanics. Why would I want to deal with all this negative if the positives do not deal a lot of powerful benefits?
This might be the best interview with Ion that I have ever listened to. It deserves more attention than it is receiving. I highly recommend watching/listening to the full interview - don't just read the summary.
Corruption = reforging. Only now you have to work on 3 more layers of RNG than we had for Cata. Hell with the m+ cache box being random that is 4 layers of rng right there already (item, socket, corruption, level of corruption). The system has a lot of promise, but seriously they need to add in a void-forge (hell reuse the assets from mythic n’zoth heartforge/staging ground before horrific visions, and have us imbue corruption (with randomness of course)) into specific items). Like there is no reason why we can’t have 3 stages of a such a system (x amount of momentos = tier 1, y = tier 2, and z = tier 3, with 2 and 3 tiers obviously costing more and yes again being random to fit the theme of void being chaotic). If you don’t like the corruption you can then always cleanse it off like how we have now.
The main problem with corruption would be solved if every s4 item had it and they all scaled with ilvl.
Just a reminder - ending cinematic is still unlisted and disliked into the ground. Ion sure has his lawyer speech...
I understand why they made the N'zoth end cinematic the way they did, but I'd much rather have cinematics like Thrall blasting Deathwing and Illidan killing Gul'dan. Making the player character so prominent in major events is the worst thing to happen to WoW, imo.
queen ashara mentions in the Ny'alotha that she is going for a bigger throne, also this xpac mentions helya is alive, what if Queen Azshara dethrones helya?
