Just subscribed Wowhead. I realized just now how much I check this site for everything wow related. The tons and tons of information I find here daily is well worth the 9 $ / year.Keep up the good job Wowhead!
I have been using Wowhead for quite awhile, and it's one of the best site's I've found for Wow. I happily subscribed to premium when that became an option, since any website I visit multiple times a day is worthy of my support. Information is never really free, and I don't want to use adblock software here & feel like a leech.
I'm sorry to hear about the SEO hacking of your site. To be honest i never noticed the issue with my setup. I admit i use Ublock Origin to filter ads and manipulate my internet. I have found it does a lot more than simply block ads. As an example if i turn it off on google.com I do notice the search hijacking etc. But with it turned on i get zero results from bad sites lol. I do turn it off on your website and others that i like but because of the nature of the internet and bad sites i do not trust most sites and leave it on when visiting.
I've been aware of this for a few months now... Did notice it was fake and it only happened on PC at work. It was indeed ackward has it was wowhead in it's essence but fake... Never had seen anything like that for a "fake" site.Did some research about it and ended up with 0 results so i kinda ignored it thereafter... feel bad now for never had brought it up before... damnit.
when i search for woweden to block it. it shows actual wowhead page atm. perhaps it has been resolved? or atleast it doesn't affect Google Turkey searches. yet.
I have always typed in "search item" followed by 'wowhead', but from now on, I'm literally typing wowhead.com, coming straight here, and THEN searching for whatever item I'm looking for. Sorry to hear you guys are being maliciously messed with in this way. Damn trolls... (no offence to in-game troll race).
I still don't get then how come wow eden ranks as #1 result, since it can't even remotely have even a tiny fraction of the millions backlings wowhead does. Additionally, how can it happen that wowhead itself is being removed from the search results?I can't find how all this can be possible and if it would be so simple and not involve compromising/hacking websites, then why isn't this bad thing being used at scale by competitor companies to discredit each other, or by random ppl on the internet to hijack big websites?
If you are using google chrome just type wowhead.com then tab and search so you dont accidently click the malicious links by accident in a hurry.
Thank you VERY much for the info. Got my chrome extension and blocked the dirty eden site. As soon as I hit W in my search, it goes straight to your site. People that have zero clue how this takeover in the search engine works may be the real issue here lol I love my WOWHEAD.COM! I love all of the work that you put into it. This is my go to site for all things WoW. I am a paid subscriber so I have zero ads and have NEVER had any malware or phishing from your site...even before being a paid subscriber and from my point of view, $10 a year is ridiculously LOW for all of the fantastic help and information that you put together! KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK! YOU GUYS FREAKING ROCK!
I understand whar you are saying, but it's still not that easy to do it as it is claimed. There's 2 specific things that I don't get: 1. when you add your website to Google for SEO purposes, you must specify your root website, so the sub-pages and sub-domains of your websites are ranked based on the root website score. You can't have other websites share your same rank, each domain gets its own score. No matter who copies your page surce code, it is not part of your website (a sub-page or a sub-domain), it's a different website, with different search ranks.2. A big part of the ranking score comes from the number and quality of the external backlinks that link back to your website. wow eden does not have external backlinks from the important websites, since like most of the wow related websites, including huge ones like battle.net and mmo-c all link to wowhead.com directly through the JS for item tooltips/links. Unless this shady website somehow managed to hack/steal the item tooltip java script from wowhead, I can't think of a way of how this shady website would get such a big rank first of all. Being backlinked from its network of shady websites makes for a awfully poor ranking score vs the army of websites linking to wowhead.Again, why wouldn't any random guy owning a small online store be able to hijack Amazon links even for just a day? It would directly cause several millions in damages if it could and get a huge boost on his own website too.
Are you being ignorant on purpose? Maybe you should actually READ the post.
Do you have any experience using the internet? These are not FAKE ads lolol They are just ads.... Everyday, everywhere. Pay a subscription or deal with it. BUT first, get educated.
Actually...READ the post. This is about out on the web in a search engine. NOT on the wowhead website itself. What is going on with you people? It's like you took something that was said and made your own story with it....
