On June 23, 2015, Blizzard Entertainment released, Fury of Hellfire, one of the largest non-expansion content updates to date for World of Warcraft. This new content helped stabilize the subscriber number towards the end of the quarter. World of Warcraft remains the No. 1 subscription‐based MMORPG in the world.On April 2, 2015, Blizzard Entertainment launched Blackrock Mountain™, the second Adventure for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. The release of Hearthstone on iOS and Android smartphones followed on April 14, 2015. Key engagement metrics, which were already very strong, nearly doubled year over year, largely on account of the new content and new platforms.

Blizzard Entertainment launched Heroes of the Storm on June 2, 2015 with strong critical reception. The Eternal Conflict, a series of content additions based on the Diablo® universe, was launched in June and is still ongoing, and players have responded with positivity and excitement. Blizzard announced in May that Heroes of the Storm had been added to the Road to BlizzCon® program, and major tournaments are already underway globally.

On April 23, 2015, Sanctuary’s gates were thrown open to all Chinese heroes, as Blizzard Entertainmentʹs award‐winning action role‐playing game Diablo® III: Reaper of Souls™ went live in China. Diablo III has now sold-through over 30 million units life-to-date globally.

Blizzard Entertainment achieved record revenues and MAUs in China this quarter, driven by the popularity of Diablo III, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, and Heroes of the Storm.

Comment by IndigoWowerBlizzards lack of caring for older content and WOD have turned me off from the game I have loved and lived for many years. It's been 2 weeks since I logged in and I just can't bring myself to do it.

-2 more subs very soon I'm afraidComment by skribs5.6 million is still the largest MMO playerbase, but that is now. At this rate, I expect they'll be at 4.9M in Q3 and 4.5M in Q4. I think we're seeing the lowest numbers since Wrath. I bet it will be 10M again after the next xpac, but quickly dip back down to 5 again.

WoW has been going downhill for quite some time. I don't think the raids have been as good since BC, unless you count Ulduar. Each expansion they introduce more features that kill class customization, community, and turn the game into a long grind. The only major idea that's been any good the past 3 expansions is pet battles. Honestly, the game is too far gone and we need WoW 2, not 7.0.Comment by Interest

You are describing a theory that is pretty much impossible to realistically meet since eventually the price floor of the tokens will drop to such a point that it'll generally be attractive to buy at least some tokens with gold.

In short, it's rather unrealistic to assume all players would go back to a conventional subscription and in time (a surprisingly short amount of time, probably), the WoW Token market would completely die if no one buys any and some subscriptions, likely buyers of the WoW Token with RL money, would follow, resulting in an eventual net financial loss.

Edit: So even if your argument is consistent, it makes no reasonable sense and can be shown to not necessarily hold true.Comment by AngelhearthNo wonder, with what we have seen in the last few expansions. Sine the Lich King came out I feel WoW has totaly stagnated, the contents has been made simpler and simpler, easier and easier. Well, it's all down to what kind of players you want to attract, those who play for a while and then move on to something even easier, like a "free to play" anime thing, or those who enjoy something wih substance. A WoW where there's only raids to do after you've finished exploring and doing the quests, not exactly my dream world, and maybe that's where they loose the most, the players that aren't good enough to do mythic raids, like myself, or those who are so oodthey get tired of it? Wow's dead, it's just too stupid to understand it. Maybe time for Blizzard to stop beating an old horse and get a new one?Comment by Berndorf

The idea itself isn't even that sound. I presented a scenario where it would ultimately result in a net loss anyways even though initially, Blizzard may obtain a net gain. As it is, a scenario that's speculative at best isn't a good supporting beam for your premise.

Edit: Also, I brainstormed this scenario with another person and forgot to point one last thing out. Since I mentioned that there would be a limited supply of WoW Tokens because it's unlikely people will buy any with RL money once they realize it won't sell, eventually the 5 dollar difference from failing to sell tokens compared to traditional subs will break even with the money acquired from the bought, but unsellable, tokens. After seeing the lack of enthusiasm in the gamescon audience and the "been here, did that, meh feeling" I felt at the end of the feed, I finally think this is Blizzard's "jump the shark" moment. I've been a player since Alpha and love the storyline, but with WoD's time travelling and the AU, it's just lost its flair. I haven't even skimmed the surface of Patch 6.2.Comment by RexcoonJust fine with warcraft taking a back seat to other games. Old content is fun to roam around amidst. Some folks don't have 10, 20, 30+ hours a week to play. 2-5 hours per week still garners great fun with the game and there is plenty at that pace for years....Comment by Black2uThis is why I am currently playing other games right now. Seriously blizzard? The only patches that come to mind that aren't "larger" than 6.2 are 4.1 and 6.1 (btw am I noticing a pattern here? :P ) .

Anyway back to my point. As long as blizzard doesn't attempt to solve fundamental problems with wow like lack of class PVP balance and continues to relinquish the MMO part of the game, the subs will keep going down.Comment by gravemateAfter all these years, today i've ended my subscription. I know Blizzard Entertainment does not cares about my drop in the ocean. But it ends like everything. Untill this day, i've played this game and i've loved it. I've never and ever written "Doom is Coming" to any site.Today, i just give up, deleted the game from my pc. Because of after whole long years, i've got a banned account. The reason is a virus in my pc, they told me i've used a 3rd party program. I've submitted the virus scanning results but .... they really didint given any kind of "care" about what i am saying.

And i understood what was going on, they only care about the cash. Not me, not the customer, Only $. For a game, it is more than it has to be. And i've understood that they are a money monsters which we are created. That is all, they are no more than this.

Now, life is at outside, i'm going to taste the Autumn with my extra roasted coffee without a concern of "oh i've a raid tonite, i need to be at home at 8pm.".

Goodbye everyone, it was nice to play with you all.
