I hate it
The bar is enabled again so I can review it in more detail and provide my feedback to the wowhead devs. The Meebo bar is cheap and tasteless. It greatly reduces de value of wowhead as a whole. Miyari states this bar is non-intrusive but I beg to differ.I understand, as a web developer myself, that advertisement is needed to support a website which offers free services. And I like the idea that wowhead offers premium membership for a low cost. However, the premium features are more cosmetic than anything and this meebo bar seems to be part of a sales pitch in order to sell the premium membership. Which, in turn, makes this an "ad free service" rather than a "premium service" considering the real gain of paying for this is to remove the, now, big annoyances.I hope wowhead (or ZAM if they are the ones pushing this) decides to listen to the community and get rid of this bar. Got back to your roots! wowhead has had great design for years! you don't need to resort to cheap tactics in order to increase revenue.A better alternative, I think, would be to enhance the content for premium members.Until then im blacklisting wowhead ads and the meebo div element as suggested by Miyari on his second paragraph.
Oh hey, I have a white square with a blue arrow in it in the corner of my browser now...Seems rather ineffective for advertising, the thing is so ugly I'll never expand it and see the ads. Why not just use more sidebar ads? That section of the site is just a black band anyway, and the car ads that drive along the side are kinda nifty but only go partway down the page, this bar ad thing is just weird.
I don't like it. It looks ugly against the black and gray background of the site. It includes links to things for which we already have links at the top of the page. I don't need it to connect to an instant messenger, that's why I have my instant messenger open. If it were just an ad I could deal with it, but the toolbar is unattractive and I don't plan to use it. The worst part is after I click the arrow to hide it, there's still an ugly white arrow leftover in the corner. Maybe if the arrow hid itself automatically when closed it would be better.
I don't like it.When I first saw it I thought some spyware had made its way onto my computer. It looks like one of those Yahoo or AOL toolbar add-ons that serve really no purpose (except to lag your machine) that I honestly try very hard to keep away from.I am perfectly happy with the regular ads in the spots they are regularly in. I don't ad-block them because I don't want to keep you guys from getting paid. I am also perfectly capable of finding the blue tracker, talent calculator, etc through the usual methods in the menu bar.The new ad bar at the bottom kind of makes me itch.. I don't like seeing it there, makes me feel like theres some unwanted stuff installed on my computer.
I think it's fine.I also far prefer it to other ads that pop up from the bottom of the screen which get in the way of content and I have to hunt for the close button.
This makes WoWhead extremely laggy for me. I've been left hanging for upwards of 10 seconds on a page of item results because of this silly bar. Earlier, the page hung AND one of your ads started playing a commercial for the Olive Garden. That made me a bit angry.
I really dislike it. It really makes Wowhead unusable for me. I'm completely unable to obtain data on items by hovering the link. Now I just get the "Loading..." message, followed by "No response from server :(" message. This is super disappointing, I really liked Wowhead for its functionality. Guess it's time to move on.
I don't like it either. It's annoying and I don't even see how it's non-intrusive when it's blinding at the bottom of my screen.
I personally don't mind having the bar there.... BUT i would suggest removing the advertisement on the left side of the bar. It gets very irritating when going to a page and having the ad pop-up in the corner of the screen. Also, if my mouse pointer ends up over the ad, it automatically opens the ad over something i'm reading.I have a brand-new quad-core laptop also, and the extra flash tends to lag even me. If you want to put more advertisements on the screen. Please find another way to do it. Things that pop up are very annoying.
I won't be using the bar at all. Sorry, I do things from the top.Cheers.
I have to agree with most of the comments on here. Please remove meebo...Two thumbs waaay down
One of the things I like about Wowhead is the dark background. I find overly bright windows difficult to read, so Wowhead is a refreshing change. The Meebo bar does not fit with the dark theme and is distracting. I'm glad it has a minimize feature. I doubt I will ever use its links. Actually, with it minimized, when I loaded Wowhead today I forgot the bar was there until I saw this thread.
