We're always on the look out for outstanding community creations, and Redditor u/Allakatter went above and beyond by using AI to
render 2D World of Warcraft wallpapers in 3D video
! While we've shared a lot of videos upscaled through machine learning or improved by the use of AI, this might be the first time we've seen Warcraft wallpapers transformed this way, and it really adds a new layer of depth to the images in yet another impressive example of what can be done with the help of AI.

The video is also available on
Wallpaper Engine
(Steam) for fans, and the original images used in the video (including one
Chrono Trigger
easter egg!) can all be found in this
imgur album
. Allakatter also shared a
Youtube explanation by bycloud
which explains the process used to make the images look 3D, and an additional tutorial video on the channel even instructs users how to make their own!

Is it just me or is anyone else kind of like, embarrassed for Blizzard to see that one guy did this - hiring one or a couple people wouldn't be that expensive and they could put out really impressive stuff like this.
Blizzard has been doing it for years. Just take a look at their hand-drawn cinematics.
The reason why they don't do 3D wallpapers is...why would they? For anyone to use them, they need special software that very few people even know exists. Think things through before you get so condescending.
