And the Alliance quest is... where exactly? No Horde bias btw.
Vol’jin as a loa would make a great Troll leader.
The greatest strength of WoW has always been its grounding in ancient myth and folklore. Don't let the nods to movies and music and pop stars fool you, the most recent point of reference is H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos whence come the Old Gods and the Faceless Ones. We have a reverse Arthur Myth in Arthas and all the Vrykul/Viking reference stem from the Norse Myths that inform Northrend. There's a lot of Chinese and Japanese Lore in Pandaria. So why am I mentioning all of this? One of the most prevalent quests in ancient myth involves a complicated quest to enter the Underworld to question and obtain advice from an important figure of the past. In questing to react Vol'jin we are in the same tradition as Dante, Aeneas, and Gilgamesh. The Nicene Creed of Christianity asserts that the crucified Jesus "descended into hell" and the whole of Homer's Odyssey can be read as a long, multifaceted descent into a complicated Underworld. In WoW's universe the Underworld is an inherent part of the world of Azeroth. We have The Forsaken, the risen Undead, come back to a sort of life, and the Scourge, the ravening Undead of ghosts, zombies and other nasties that have little or no sentience or reason, just hunger. I like this contact with Vol'jin. It keeps the mythic (no, not keystones) threads in WoW going.
Seems to be a thing on Horde lately, first we see Thrall/Go'el dropping the mantle in favor of Garrosh, so he could focus entirely on Healing the World. MoP happened. Then we see Vol'Jin getting backstabbed by a demon with a very poisoned Blade, dropping mantle in favor of Sylvanas, right at the beginning of Legion... BfA happened. On the Alliance side, during MoP we see Jaina raged on Horde, in Legion+BfA we see Genn Greymane whispering stuff of war on Anduin's ear all the way.
Legion was an Alliance expansion. It's only fitting BfA is a Horde one, though I'm not sure why anyone would "want" an expansion to be about their faction with the utter pig swallop that the Horde civil war story is in this expansion. lol
So from what I see either Sylvanas took it upon herself to sell Voljin's soul to get named Warchief. Or someone is using her and when she finds out she's gonna turn the horde towards a new foe. Seems she would take being manipulated very badly.Seems having the horde & alliance at each outher again could be doing the Naga some favors... maybe Proudmore and her will end up fighting N'Zoth together while taking turns mocking each other since they can't risk turning thier powers on each other with him to deal with.
I understand that alliance players want these kinds of quests, but they do not understand what we are paying. This constant change of warchef, this failure of our honor, the moral inconfort. For us, players of the horde, the alliance is the privilege.
The strange thing withe the compass quest. I randomly got the compass while questing. I turnned into Andiun, he thanked me but there was no video or follow up quest. I did see the video back when it was data-mined but I never got it in game.
